i have a android phone that i can't seem to make it stop lagging, and freezing

    Posted: 13 May 2021 04:23 AM PDT

i have uninstalled a ton of apps, it has plenty of storage, it is a Nokia 3.1 plus, it is running Android 9, i think it should be able to run everything i have on it smoothly, but something is dragging it down, ive tryd rom cleaners, app killers, i was installing a ton of apps on it, i like trying new apps, so im constantly installing and uninstalling to make room for something else, maybe some of them leaves pieces of the app, so the phone is still trying to process stuff from apps that aren't there, but idk, i would rather not have to reset it

All apps & UI freezing Randomly Even After Factory Reset

    Posted: 13 May 2021 11:23 AM PDT

I have a Motorola Moto X4 on Android 9 that has been running fine until the past few weeks out of nowhere. Regardless of what Im doing or what app I have up(or dont have up at all), my phone will just freeze for about 10-20 seconds, then work normally. Its very sporadic. Even things like just locking and unlocking the phone will freeze. Sometimes after each freeze itll say that whatever app is up isnt responding AFTER it starts responding again. It will even say the UI, google, etc isnt responding either if it does it when no app is up and running. Ive tried removing every added app on the phone to no avail. The only thing that worked was a factory reset, but after about 5 days, its started to do it again.

I cant for the life of me figure out whats causing it. Im very familiar with diagnosing and fixing computers, but this has me confused cuz Ive never seen anything like it. Im thinking maybe the RAM or CPU is going bad or something? My only course of action I can see right now is getting a new phone, which is the LAST thing I want to do since this phone has been completely fine for me and does what I need it to do. Anyone have any clue of something I could try or what could be causing it?

How to prevent specific apps from using data/wifi

    Posted: 13 May 2021 09:08 AM PDT

Hello. As the title states, i am trying to block a specific app from accessing wifi.

    AT&T Samsung Galaxy S21+ on Android 11

Whats going on is i just got a Eufy Smart Doorbell installed for my house. But my work's wifi blocks the access to the Eufy servers for some reason. So if im at work on the wifi, i wont get any notifications or calls from the doorbell. So im trying to find a way to have the wifi on, but prevent the Eufy app from using it so i get the notifications.

Ive tried using the Samsung Max VPN app that allows you to restrict Data and/or Wifi for each individual app, but it doesnt work. If i restrict wifi for the app, the app doesnt resort to using data, it just stops working completely. I havent been able to find any settings in the phone to force an app to only use data or wifi either. Is there any way i can restrict an individual app from accessing WiFi?

Just updated to Andriod 11, everything is less compact

    Posted: 13 May 2021 05:30 AM PDT

I've tried changing the dpi on the developer settings but the text is so big everywhere and there's unless space when viewing messages. In Chrome, all the text is way larger and there's more space between lines. The whole thing seems like it was for a blind person. My phone size is already small, how to I revert this horrendous update with all these spacing issues. and the screenshot button is gone from the power button. and a few notifications take up the whole screen

Changed language and stuck in bootloop

    Posted: 13 May 2021 06:03 AM PDT

I was having issues with google assistant saying the voice activation wasn't available in my language (English, USA). There was another option that said eng&*1235jk or something like that so I set that to another language. It still wasn't working so I selected that one and deleted the "english" one and my phone immediately started boot looping. I tried booting into recover but every time I select boot to recovery it just brings me back to the option of booting to recovery or bootloader.

I could be really screwed if I can't get back in because I use google authenticator. I will not be using that anymore but if I can't get back to authenticator I might be screwed.

Edit: Here are a couple pictures from the recovery logs if that helps

Can I get Google Pay off my Power Off screen without rooting my phone?

    Posted: 13 May 2021 09:49 AM PDT

I recently updated my Moto Edge to Android 11, and whenever I long-press the power button to shut off my phone, I'm greeted with this ugly, giant Google Pay button:

I don't use Google Pay, and I don't have the app installed either. Is there a setting or a way to disable this?

Is it possible to force only one specific app to always use data, even when connected to days?(not using a Samsung)

    Posted: 13 May 2021 09:17 AM PDT

i have an app that performs much poorer on WiFi than data for whatever reason, this is an ongoing issue with the app, not just me, and mobile data works much better.

Samsung has a feature to force some apps to always use data.

is there a way to do this on non Samsung phones? I'm using a xaomi.

    Updating your OS

    Hi!

Anyone know how to perform your OS updates on mobile data? My S20FE is giving me the message that it's unable to update without connecting to a wifi network. Assuming it's a setting or a box I need to uncheck somewhere.

    Thanks

Unable to see wifi from a OBD device

    Posted: 13 May 2021 07:53 AM PDT

    I purchased the following device:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FU5MVI8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The way it works is when I plug the device into the ODB port on the car, it generates a Wifi hotspot that you can connect to using the phone. The problem is that the wifi never shows up when you scan. I am using a ZTE Axion 7 running Android 7.

    I have tried the following:

    1. Reset the ODB device.
    2. Turn off wifi and turn it back on.
    3. Restart the phone.
    4. Manually add the SID. Won't connect to it because it doesn't think it's there.
    5. Check to see if other phone. In this case, I notice that two different iphones can see the hotpot using iphone and can connect to it.

The ZTE phone has no problems connecting to anyother wifi and it's obviously generating a signal that the iphone can see and connect to. I have resetted all devices. What could be the cause of the issue?

dual sim - getting calls in a no service area using internal wifi calling

    Posted: 13 May 2021 07:49 AM PDT

ios 13 added this. does it work on android yet?

    scenario:

sim 1 no service area, supports wifi calling sim 2 in a sevice area, using this sim for data using DSDS

goal: receive calls on sim 1 in a no service area without needing to haul around 2 phones.

phone is pixel 4a 5g, so one sim would be an esim. cant test because i dont want to switch to esim if i cant achieve my goal.

    thanks.

Can I disable persistent notifications meant to keep apps open in the background?

    Posted: 13 May 2021 06:57 AM PDT

There are apps like Pushbullet that have a persistent notification to keep the app open in the background. These notifications can be turned off in settings, but will turning them off stop the option of the app running in the background? Or does this feature work even if the notification has been turned off.

Phone screen shutting off, turns back on when placed on flat surface

    Posted: 13 May 2021 06:39 AM PDT

    Hi,

I have Sony Xperia 10 II. It has worked well up until cca 2 weeks ago when the phone screen started shutting off mostly at random. The phone itself stays on - just the screen is off. For example, if I touch the screen with my fingers while the screen is off, corresponding actions will happen (e.g. if I touched the spot where some app icon is, the app will start and it will be the first thing I see when the screen turns back on).

When I place my phone on a flat surface, the screen immediately turns back on.

The screen turns off mostly at random when I'm holding it in my hand, however, I have noticed that if my phone is mounted on the bike, the screen will 100% go off if I am driving on a very bumpy part of the road and once I reach the flat part of the road it will turn back on again.

What could be causing this issue?

Are there any apps like Color Calibrator but works on System Apps?

    Posted: 13 May 2021 06:17 AM PDT

Just as the title said. My device's screen currently has this orange tint which is very annoying. (Blue Light aka Eye Comfort Shield in Samsung is of course turned off).

Color Calibrator works for the most part, it removes the orange tint by increasing the blue color but this app only applies an overlay to the display. This overlay doesn't apply over system apps and the notification area.
