Keep hitting the damn period/punctuation key on my.android phone.

    Posted: 01 May 2021 04:06 AM PDT

Hi I have a insane irritating problem, i keep hitting the period key on my phone when writing, instead of the space bar. I have searched on the problem, and found many others with the same problem. I have tried many keyboards,to try and customise them , with repositioning the keyboard, making it bigger longer space button etc. (A sentence will usually look like this, and i have to edit the punctuation. --->i my name.is.andy. the viking.) I did try multiling o - i could remove the period button.but the keyboard wasnt very good otherwise. I have tried

Ai.type keyboard Smart keyboard Gboard Swift Fleksy Typewise - cant get my brain to learn that keyboard. Many more.

Does anyone have any tips? Ps. Sorry for bad english and grammar.

    Thanks

Most of my apps are crashing today after a few minutes (S10+)

    Posted: 01 May 2021 10:08 AM PDT

Even stuff like spotify that does not really use that much resources but other things like chrome still work.

Pretty much all my games are affected tho.

Might be that webview crap again tho dont see enough complaints so its probably not widespread.

I started having the occasional crash here and there a few days ago and that does line up with the last webview update but could still run games for most of the day, today everything went to hell properly.

Saw a couple new 1* reviews on webview after the update tho it might just be people blaming it because of the previous problems.

Tried rolling back webview, deleting data, updating again, disabling chrome but nothing worked related to that.

Messed around with the battery settings and disabled all optimization for the games but that wasn't it either.

Pretty much out of options now.

    Odd autocorrect

    Posted: 01 May 2021 05:42 AM PDT

I have an old Telstra [ZTE] T815, with Kingsoft Office, which I use as an e-reader and for wi-fi.

Anyway, when you type "Faust" it autocorrects to "Daydreams".

It's really insistent - if you press space after the word it changes it. I saved the file and it changed the word before saving ! I had to save it twice.

What do you call the ring you hear when you place a call

    Posted: 01 May 2021 08:57 AM PDT

When i make a call the ringing volume, as well as the call waiting beep, are very low but call audio is at normal levels

What do i have to search for that feature

Ringback only gives me stuff from when you could annoy people with music when they called you

Is this a device thing or carrier thing?

Also its volume is fine if i use speaker phone, its only when i hold the phone to my ear or use headphones

For users having Pixel 4a, I have a question on charging.

    Posted: 01 May 2021 11:48 AM PDT

It may sound ridiculous but hear me out!

Since you already know that it supports 18W charging through USB C-C using USB-PD. Is it possible to charge the device a bit more slowly to keep the battery cool and possibly increase its life span?

A simple Google search showed that by using USB A-C cable, it won't be doing USB-PD quick charging instead it will charge using USB-BC (Battery Charging, a legacy standard) which will limit the power at around 7W.

Now here is the ridiculous part:

By attaching USB-C end of the quick switch adapter(OTG) that came with the device to power adapter and connecting its other end (USB-A) to the device itself by running a USB A-C cable in between. Will this make the device charge slowly?

What's the difference between battery optimisation off for an app, and battery optimisation on but set to 'never sleep'?

Severe mobile network issues since screen replacement

    Posted: 01 May 2021 09:42 AM PDT

I broke my screen and took it to a repair shop. I thought everything was fine (other than my fingerprint sensor not working, but wasn't a deal breaker). I don't call often on my phone. About a week after I was on a call when my call dropped. I tried calling back and heard a really loud noise like a fax. I hung up and was able to redo my call fine. However since then I noticed very poor mobile service. I was lucky to get - 122 dB on the LTE signal. The phone was showing usually one bar. I could make calls but they'd drop.

I've tried resetting apn settings, my network, re inserted my sim. I've noticed the door to my sim slightly sticks now. I downloaded Discovery LTE and it's been showing very poor LTE signal strength. When I change to GSM/CDMA it improves to about - 85 dB. Even my phone shows five bars. However now when looking at my network, it's only saying Emergency calls only and says out of service.

It seems like the phone is sensing a signal but it can't connect to my mobile network. I've already spent $200 on the repair. I don't want to take it to another store to spend another $200 in the hopes of getting it fixed. I'm not technically sound to open the phone myself. Does anyone have any ideas what the issue might be?

Did this keyboard function ever exist or am i making it up?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 05:26 PM PDT

I hope this is the right sub for this. I used to have an Lg G flex 2 and i remember a very specific function that the keyboard had. Basically when suggesting a word to you it would make the keys that you had to hit to type that word have bigger hitboxes so that you were less likely to make typos. I just turned my Lg G flex 2 on and there was no such setting. I even remember seeing an ad about this on the smart bulletin page and i remember the visual they used. Did this ever exist? Does anyone else remember it?

How to remove clock from status bar + lock screen (Android 11)

    Posted: 01 May 2021 07:19 AM PDT

Anyone know how to remove the clock from the status bar and/or lock screen on Android 11?

I have a Pixel 4a (so I'm using stock android).

I recently found out that I might have time-related OCD, where I get obsessed with how I'm spending my time, down to the individual minutes. Being on my phone makes this so much worse because the clock is always visible.

Any help would be super appreciated!

(I don't want to root it as I just got this phone, I prefer to root after the warrenty is gone)

    Samsung a51 root

    Posted: 01 May 2021 03:17 AM PDT

Hi, I am new to rooting and don't exactly know how it works, I found a tutorial on rooting your samsung a51 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-twrp-for-samsung-galaxy-a51-sm-a515f-one-ui-3-0-dub1-android-11.4231543/) but I have dub2 version, if anyone knows how I can root it or if I can follow that tutorial please tell me, this is also my first time rooting a phone so I don't want to brick it. Thanks.

After updating Android music apps suddenly can't see any of the folders or files on my SD card even though they have access and the files are there?

    Posted: 01 May 2021 06:49 AM PDT

There was a big android update to version 11 that I installed and now music apps can't see my music on the SD card. I've tried reformatting my SD card and putting the music back on, force stopping and clearing data of the music apps, trying different apps etc and nothing can see the files or folders even though the file manager app on my phone can see them all just fine and so can every other device I tried the SD card in. All apps were given permission.

I've got a Samsung Galaxy A21s, Android 11 in the UK on GiffGaff. My usual media player is Shuttle+ but I've tried several other ones and they all have the same issue.

Any ideas? I did a search and it seems to be an issue with Samsung phones running Android 11 specifically but the threads with "fixes" were confusing as they seemed to either point to settings that I couldn't find anywhere on my phone or to apps that I don't have on my phone either so I couldn't do what they said.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

PS: Is it possible to just install a basic Android 10 install on my phone without all of the Samsung apps and proprietary stuff or does it have to be specific firmware for a specific phone?

Has anyone used a USB-C flash drive for extra quick storage?

    Posted: 01 May 2021 02:58 AM PDT

Thinking of getting "SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive Go 128GB", so I have some movies and music on the go but without adding space on my phone, which I need for photos/videos. Just wondering if anyone has used something like and what's your experience like? Anything I should look out for? I've read that the speeds kinda suck but I'm guessing that doesn't matter for my purpose.

    Away from Apple

    Posted: 01 May 2021 02:14 AM PDT

Hi, I have an XS Max and am still amazed at how much more performance it has than an A72 or an S21+. After all, it is 2-3 years older.

Anyway, I want to get away from Apple. I favor Samsung.

    Wildlife benchmark:

    XS Max: 6050 points, ~36fps.

    S21+: 5500 points, ~32fps

    A72: 1100 points, ~7fps (gross).

I need dual sim, 90hz+ display, ~6.5" and some performance so I can play some games too.

You won't believe me, but on an A72 even MTG Arena, a card game, jerks. Or are there still patches for the performance coming? Otherwise, I would also need performance to play Diablo Immortal, for example.

Any ideas? I actually like the A72, also because I could buy the A72 for the price of selling the XS.

I don't wanna spend 800€+, but the performance differences amazed me.

please help, apps closing all the times

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 07:36 PM PDT

i have a Samsung A70, got it 9 months ago so it's not really old. 12 hours ago, apps started closing on their own all the time. not every app but some of the apps i use the most (spotify, discord, tiktok, subway surfers) but reddit or twitter works fine for example it's normal for a minute or two then it just closes; you can imagine it's really annoying

i already did everything i found on the issue online:

clear the cache, uninstall and reinstall, restart the phone, reinstall android webview, uninstall lots of unnecessary applications on my phone, do all my updates .... I don't want to have to reset my phone because it would be really complicated to manage, most of my files are only on my phone.

please help me, this issue greatly limits my use of my phone. Does my problem justify going to a telephone repairer? I suck with this phones

Help please! Desperate to get into this locked phone

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 03:53 PM PDT

Edit- after talking through options a few more times he's decided to leave the phone alone. Even if we got in we wouldn't find anything that would help him feel better about the loss. They were very close and this was an awful time. thanks again for the advice. Will delete tomorrow

My husband's brother died suddenly this week and we can't figure out how to get into his locked phone. It's a recent cheap LG model. His girlfriend knows his codes and passwords and will not tell us. I know it's unlikely that we can hack into it but we really just want to know what was going on in his life in the last few days. I know this has probably been asked before and I'm sorry if it's a dumb question but thought it was worth a shot.

    Odd things with vibration

    Posted: 01 May 2021 01:54 AM PDT

This is a post I deleted but have decided to post again in the case someone faces similar problems.

I was typing when vibration turned off suddenly, without warning. Attempting to access the setting on the keyboard ones (OpenBoard for the curious) crashed the app, and testing it on other keyboards as Swiftkey was useless as nothing happened -same when toggling on and off vibration in sound options.

After two unsuccesful resets and turning the tablet on and off, vibration has come back again without warnings of any kind, so it seems like a software glitch and not a hardware one, as before it such gimmick has worked flawlessly. Any ideas?

Redmi Note 7 two problems with headphones

    Posted: 01 May 2021 01:46 AM PDT

Good day. I have a redmi note 7 official rom. Everything updated and running. I have 2 problems

    1. When i have headphones plugged in (wired, not Bluetooth) the ringtone comes through the headphones. But i remember on other phones that you could make it sound from the speaker too. Why it's not happening here?

    2. When headphones are plugged in but phone is in silent mode, i get no sound nor vibration.
