Pixel 3 and Pixel 2 are still suffering from Out of Memory errors

    Posted: 26 May 2021 11:23 AM PDT

I work as an Android developer on an app with millions of downloads. Our app is generally crash-free for 99% of users, but there can be some out-of-memory crashes once in a while.

I've noticed that the vast majority of these crashes occur on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 2, despite Pixel devices making 8% of our total users (Samsung makes up ~75%). Other devices with 4GB RAM seem to be generally fine so it seems like the issue is specific to the Pixel 3 and Pixel 2. It's strange that Google still hasn't fixed the issue yet.

Whitechapel's performance may be similar to Snapdragon 870

Source. This is the same person who posted a possible leak about the camera earlier

    Copy of the tweet text

"Well yes, Whitechapel is a 5nm chip with current performance on PVT units closer to SD870, they are not trying to match SD888. Google's focus is on ML & so the raw AI performance is matched to that of other leading mobile chips. Plus that Mali GPU is performing good under stress."

LineageOS 18.1 breathed new life into my Nexus 7 2013.

I'm very surprised to see this tablet still being unofficially supported years later. I installed LineageOS 18.1 on it yesterday and It's amazing that it can even run it. For a device that came with Android 4.1 I'd say that's pretty damn impressive.

It's definitely not smooth though. The animations lag when opening apps, the same with multitasking. The SD 600 struggles for sure. Overall I gotta say it's not much slower then Android 7 which is what I was running previously, it's just less smooth, but I can live with that.
