Closing apps from your recents menu does NOT save battery and 'boost' RAM. Posted: 06 Apr 2021 04:13 PM PDT This is a pretty controversial topic in the Android community and I just wanted to clear things up: do NOT clear apps from your recents menu. Android apps are given as much of your phone's RAM as they need for them to function smoothly. However, when other apps on your phone need some of that RAM for them to function properly, Android takes away memory used from that app and lets any other app that needs that RAM use it. Apps that appear in your recents menu are essentially locked in memory: they are easily accessible, hence have much faster opening times and faster responses to any tasks initially. However, when you clear that app from your recents, the app is killed. This does more harm than good as it takes more resources to open the app after it's killed, straining your processor. This is why having more RAM is better as your phone can keep more processes running to ensure a smooth and lag-free experience. Apps in your recents do NOT run in the background and drain battery, they take up very minimal resources and do not drain battery at all. They are activated when needed and put back to sleep when needed, Android has come a very long way in terms of how it manages background processes and has gotten pretty smart now. Well written and optimised apps do not always run in the background, they are only activated when needed. Trying to kill an app to try save RAM and battery power will start an endless battle between the user and Android. The user will kill an app, Android will wonder "Hey, where did that go?" and put it back there. This whole process will drain battery instead of saving it so it's best to let Android do it's thing. The only time you should clear an app from your recents menu is if it stops responding/is frozen or if it's an app you know you won't be using in a very long time. That being said, now would be a good time to delete that RAM and battery booster app that you downloaded from the Play Store. These apps do essentially exactly all the unhealthy things I said above and always run in the background 24/7. Delete them, I seriously wonder how Google still allows these apps, don't be fooled by the 'positive' ratings that these apps get. Lastly, free RAM is wasted RAM. The more free RAM you have, the slower your experience will be, not the other way around. Put that RAM to use, Android will thank you for it! P.S. This one's for the advanced users out there: if you feel like your current kernel is bad at RAM management (less free RAM with minimal background apps) consider flashing a new kernel (through a custom recovery). Make sure you create a backup of your stock kernel first. [link] [comments]

I converted every oratory1990 headphone EQ preset (4.2.2021) for [Wavelet/V4A/JamesDSP] Posted: 05 Apr 2021 10:42 PM PDT Hey there people of this subreddit. I've been doing some coding with python to convert the eq presets by u/oratory1990. You can use this in Wavelet (for non-rooted) or V4A/JamesDSP (rooted). GDrive Folder link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qIO42bIxKR0qdMYS_Wle1hNNDMmjb67p?usp=sharing Some F.A.Q: Q: I use wavelet and it sounds good, what difference does this make? A: This uses the parametric eq presets created by oratory1990 directly. The one used in wavelet was an automatic method called "AutoEQ", which is an awesome project itself. Basically manual vs automatic. This one was created by oratory I believe while listening to the headphones themselves. The difference is quite noticeable and I myself prefer this over AutoEQ if it's available. Q: My headphones are not available in the folder? A: This was created per the 4.2.2021 update from https://www.reddit.com/r/oratory1990/wiki/index/list_of_presets. I did the conversion from that and if it's not available, you'll just have to stick with the one from AutoEQ (Wavelet) or send over your headphones to u/oratory1990 for measurements. After that I can convert it to Wavelet/V4A/JamesDSP. Q: I found my headphones in the GDrive folder and there's a lot of options, which one do I use? A: Some options will have a different frequency response target (Harman, USound, Diffuse field, etc.). You can try each one but the preferred one is Harman (the file with nothing after the model name). For every options, there will be 3 file: "Graphic EQ.txt" for Wavelet To import, open wavelet, tap AutoEQ, then tap "Import". After importing, search your just imported file name and turn on AutoEQ. "44100.wav" and "48000.wav" for V4A and JamesDSP To import in V4A, copy the wav file to Android/data/com.pittvandewitt.viperfx/Kernel, open the "Convolver" and select the file. To import in JamesDSP, copy the wav file to JamesDSP/Convolver and select the wav file in JamesDSP Manager. If you have any questions regarding this project, feel free to reply to this post. Thanks for your time and have a nice day =D [link] [comments]

Posted: 05 Apr 2021 07:29 AM PDT I hope you read this, it's really important to me and should be to all that try to free their devices by unlocking bootloader and installing custom roms. IMO the bootloader unlocking "scene" is a mess. Some manufacturers make it simple to unlock a phone's bootloader, some require you to register your device with your personal info before unlocking on the device itself, some require downloading special proprietary software on a pc also with registrations, and some completely disabled the bootloader unlocking ONLINE services (looking at you Huawei). Why unlock a bootloader ? Manufacturers will weep bUT iT's DaNGeRouS every single time. Well it's their propriatery OS that is very possibly filled with telemetry, backdoors, bloatware, ads etc. that will get replaced by more open solutions and that could prolong device's life, security and usability. I get really frustrated when i have to disable all the hidden tracking option on devices, all the personalized ad tracking. Some phones outright showing ads in some menus. FFS i paid for this phone and now they're going to milk me even more with my data ? For practical example, I have a 5 year old Lenovo P2, which stopped updating at official Android version 7. I then decided to try custom roms, went to unlocking a bootloader, but because it's a mess on some manufacturers, Lenovo had outdated website certificate for unlocking a bootloader, which i made a post about, so you even weren't able to unlock it. Then after some digging i found a workaround, on some forum, saying you need to change devices's date to prior that certificate expired to be even able to register and wait exactly 14 days before it gets unlocked. Thankfully i was able to find the answer, but what about all those people that stopped there that maybe thought it isn't possible ? After that i proceeded to install a custom Android rom, one of which is LineageOS. The OS is completely open source, transparent with all the app OSS, without any possible manufacturer's tracking on the OS side, internal memory gets encrypted, Android security bugs get updated to the latest versions constantly, and now i have very stable Android 10 on my old-ish phone that is able to run it without problems, instead of me tossing the device away because of outdated security. Now i can enjoy all the new ROM options, app compatibility etc. I also installed basic Google services that include only the google play store app from them, not 15 other google apps that Google dictates manufacturers it need to be installed. This is not my first device that i'm installing custom rom to, to update the OS on device and security bugs. I hear lately about "right to repair" laws getting passed which is absolutely awesome, but this topic should also be taken to prolong the phone's software, which all of us have and being able to customize it to our personal liking, keep it updated on the security side, there should be no BS when unlocking bootloaders. This is like you deciding to install Linux on PC instead of Windows. It should be my decision if i want to take the "risk" of unlocking it, not manufacturer's, and some manufacturers really make it a painful task to do it. I think this topic should be discussed and picked up by lawmakers to make a standard on how to unlock a bootloader so Manufacturers would have to comply. I strongly believe that devices can be used for a much longer period of time and still being secure by unlocking a bootloader and then using a safe custom OS. PS. Excuse me for possible poor choice of words, i'm from EU and it's not my primary language. If anyone feels this topic is important, please make posts about it further describing the issue, and share it to subreddits that might appreciate the idea. thanks for reading!
