Is there any Miracast receiver app with UIBC support for Android TV?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 02:55 AM PST

I've been experimenting with Wireless Samsung DeX lately and discovered that in One UI 3.0, UIBC is supported. I used this old app from playstore on my old android tablet running Lollipop on my testing. The max resolution is only 1280x720 though and there seems to be a problem with the scaling for the input. I sideloaded the APK but the app does not establish any connection, probably due to compatibility issues. Default Miracast receiver for my devices works, but without UIBC.

With UIBC support, input lag would basically be minimized. For Wireless DeX for example, laggy cursor will be non-existent because the cursor itself is not on DeX, but on the Android TV itself. DeX is controlled within Android TV. I hope this makes sense. Phone control with Smart View will work as well (Samsung S6 and later).

Hi, I have a TCL android TV, every time I turn my tv ON, a pop-up appears telling me that the USB device has been inserted.

Is there a way to remove this pop-up everytime I turn my tv on ?

    Thanks.

Weird bugs today on $50 Google TV

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 12:44 AM PST

    I have this one: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/chromecast-with-google-tv-4k-snow/6425976.p?skuId=6425976

    Has anybody experienced this?

    • When it's playing something for a few minutes (let's say Hulu or Sling), it just stops (pauses).
      • The remote doesn't work to go back or with the arrow keys.
      • The home button works and takes you back to home.
      • When you hit the Google Assistant button, it says "Goggle Assistant is not ready!"
        • I googled this and it seemed to happen to Sony TVs too but not Google TVs
      • But if you hit back and get out of the Google Assistant, back in the app (e.g. Hulu), all the app controls work once again
      • [I thought it might be the bluetooth/RF or the IR, which usually does only TV volume and on/off... but certain buttons are completely reliable so that rules that out, unless I'm assuming something]
    • Even when nothing is happening in the app. Left alone in an open app, the app controls also go away. The screensaver gets stuck too. But using the Google Assistant button or home button lets you break out of it.
    • The patch level Android TV OS 10, Android TV Security patches: Dec 5, 2020 (so it's weird that these issues would just crop up now).
    • I've tried many soft reboots and hard reboots and that does nothing. I'm not a fan of doing factory resets for the hell of it, especially after all the apps have been configured.
    • Any thoughts or similar experiences? Thanks!

Is there any Android TV with a decent processor?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 04:08 AM PST

Im looking for an Android TV for my bedroom (max price around 600€, at least 50 inch would be nice) which isn't super slow when starting up from standby and switching through apps/satellite channels. Is there anything out there, or is it just better to use a seperate Android TV box?

My main TV ist a LG Oled with the Nvidia Shield. For my bedroom I'd rather want a "all-in-one" TV with Android TV built in, so i dont have to use two remotes when switching between satellite tv and apps. I know i cant expect shield performance from an "all-in-one" solution, but in my experience (I bought my dad a Sony TV for around 1000€), the built in Android TV just sucks to use, even a 4k Firestick has much better performance.

I had my eyes on the 50 inch TLC C715, but I also read comments, that the UI on this TV is slow.

    Music Visualizer App?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 06:30 PM PST

I have a Denon receiver playing music from my record player, I can use the Samsung TV remote to control the volume but only when the TV is on. With this setup I see the Denon receiver logo on the TV while the record player is playing sweet tunes. I'd like to have a music visualizer app playing in sync with the audio from the receiver.

    Keyboard layouts

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 06:07 PM PST

    Hi,

I've got a new TV (TCL C715) and a logitech bluetooth keyboard (K380) and I seem to be too stupid to make them work together....

I can pair them up alright, but no matter what I do the keyboard produces keys as if it were an US-keyboard. But it isn't. It has a german layout...

So how can I make my TV treat my connected and paired bluetooth keyboard with the proper layout?
    Many thanks!

    chrome - app not installed?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 05:22 PM PST

    Hi,

got a new TV with androidTV today (TCL C71).

On this TV I can (in principle) sideload apps. I was e.g. able to extract an apk for lichess (an app for online chess) from my phone and install that on my tv. Works.

However my TV refuses to install chrome.

I tried with a downloaded apk, everything seemed to go ok, until at the very end my TV said "app not installed".

So I tried to extract the apk from my phone just as I did with lichess and again it does not complain about anything, yet at the end: "app not installed".

What is this? Why does it only seem to happen to chrome?

    Is chrome special?

What could I try to sideload chrome nevertheless?

    Many thanks!

Is there ADB command to flip screen 180 degrees like you can in windows/macOS display properties?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 11:16 AM PST

I have a monitor that is BGR subpixel layout, so I installed it in its stand upside down to turn it into RGB subpixel layout (modern problems require modern solutions) - but this means I gotta rotate the screen in screen properties for any device I use with it. I couldn't find an ADB command to do so to use my SHIELD with the monitor (1440p HDR WCG - all things SHIELD can output so why I wanna try it), anyone know of one?

Questions about adjusting the screen size

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 10:34 AM PST

Hi there! I hope it's alright if I ask couple of questions regarding adjusting the screen size through AndroidTV. I swear I tried googling the answers!

    The story:
    - I bought a projector & xiaomi mi box s
    - Projector is giving too big of an image if placed more than 3 meters from the wall

    What's the issue?
    - While I can move it closer to the wall, I'm still curious if I can make it work 6 meters from the wall
    - I could find a setting in AndroidTV which would do 20% zoom out! This is exactly what I was looking for except I want 50% zoom out :(

What else I tried in order to achieve any sort of artificial zoom out?
    - I somehow managed to change the aspect ratio to 4:3. But instead of getting 2 black stripes at the top and at the bottom the image just shrinks O_o

At this point I feel kinda stuck. I don't know what else could work. I don't understand what's the issue of zooming out 50% and why AndroidTV setting restricts it to 20%. Also, I don't understand why aspect ratio change shrinks the image instead of compensating with void.

Has anybody else had such issue? Or maybe you know more about Android/Projectors and could suggest some solutions?

    Thanks a lot in advance!

Does spotify work on Android TVS?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 04:06 PM PST

I have a Hyundai Smart TV (not android tv, just smart I think) but in the app store is impossible to download spotify and I can not stream music on my TV (for friends meetings, etc)

A question, with Android tv (using the mi box or whatever you suggest to use) is it possible to stream music on the TV using your mobile phone?

Or is there any alternative you suggest to avoid buying the android box? (As I'm a student don't have lots of money to spend)

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 09:35 AM PST

Looking for a solution for an apartment building where multiple tenants all have android TV, We want to put a camera in the laundry room and on the front door. Then allow the tenants download an app and access the camera with the same credentials..

Any Ideas? each Tennant already has their own gmail account linked with the box, so it has to be an app that allows them to sign in with that role account? Any help is appreciated..

Used Fire Stick 4K vs New Mi Box 4K

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 11:18 AM PST

I am getting a used Amazon Fire Stick 4K for ₹2500 ($34) and a new Mi Box 4K for ₹3300 ($45). New New Firestick 4K sometimes sells for ₹4000 ($55) on sale. Which do you suggest will be a better option?? I already have a 2nd gen Chromecast at home but it seems cumbersome controlling it with phone

I intend to watch Youtube mostly, then Amazon Prime and a few apps here and there. Mi Box's USB support is sth I like as my TV can't natively play many codecs like h.265 or mkv format. Though I have a 1080p TV, I think getting a 4K box/stick is better for future proofing and have better specs too.
