Android Recovery on Chromecast with Google TV Starts a DHCP Server Posted: 29 Jan 2021 08:14 PM PST And this sucks if you're using the ethernet adapter. TL;DR: if your Chromecast is in Android Recovery mode, unplug the ethernet connection or it will take your whole network down. Today my Chromecast with Google TV got stuck on the boot screen. I unplugged the power and plugged it back in only to be greeted with the "Can't load Android system. Your data may be corrupt." screen. Ugh. I trued unplugging it and plugging it back in one more time, but same result. I had other stuff going on, so I just turned off the TV and left it for later. A bit later, people in the house start complaining that the wifi is down. That's a rare occurrence, but sure enough, my phone can't connect. I restart my router and access point, but no joy, and now even my hardwired machines can't connect. Time to dive into the router (it's an EdgeRouter, so that means a serial cable and some VyOS CLI fun). Everything looks fine, but for some reason DHCP isn't working. I can see clients making DHCP requests and the router is responding, but nothing is taking. I spend a couple hours trying everything I can think of. Finally I just give up and restore a backup of the configuration that I knew was good. _Still_ nothing works. And then it dawns on me. I walk over to the Chromecast and unplug the USB cable. Everything starts reconnecting. It looks like the Chromecast in Android Recovery mode runs a DHCP server on whatever network interface is connected. This makes total sense for diagnostics on a wifi connection, but just wrecks your network if you're using the ethernet adapter like I am. Hopefully this post will save someone a couple hours of their life if they run into the same situation. [link] [comments]
Assistance please with Philips 5800 tv series and Netflix Posted: 30 Jan 2021 06:49 AM PST By default, the tv has Netflix installed. However, when I try opening the app, there is an error message saying the app is not compatible. It will land on netflix's landing page showing you that you need to redownload the apk. I have downloaded the apk but it wouldn't install. This has something to do with downloading from external sources. Ideally, I need to change this from the settings (as instructed by Netflix) but can't find it in the browser's option. Anyone with a similar experience? Thank you! [link] [comments]

Mount Samba network drive on sony android tV? Posted: 29 Jan 2021 12:33 PM PST I have the Sony X800H Android TV. I want to mount a samba network drive at the OS level so that I can access ROMs with the RetroArch app, which doesn't have built in samba support. Is there a way to do this at the OS level without root? I find it odd that apps like VLC and Kodi can access smb shares without root access but there seems to be no way to do it in the OS without root. [link] [comments]

Box dedicated to single m3u stream? Posted: 29 Jan 2021 09:48 AM PST I would like to setup an android box that automatically opens VLC on startup and then opens an m3u stream URL. I would prefer this to open automatically, so that I don't have to enter any input using a remote / kb + mouse / etc. Basically, this box would be 100% dedicated to playing a single m3u stream. I am unsure how I would go about accomplishing this on Android. Is such a thing possible? [link] [comments]
Chromecast with Google TV - Adding TV codes Posted: 29 Jan 2021 10:52 AM PST I'm using my Chromecast with my ViewSonic M1+ projector, but I can't program my Chromecast remote to control the projector. They have ViewSonic TVs as a selection to use for the remote, but none of them work to control the projector (power and volume). Has anyone had any success getting Google to add more TV (or projector) codes to their library? I wish this remote was able to learn commands from other remotes. [link] [comments]
Bravia no longer responding to remote Posted: 29 Jan 2021 05:47 PM PST Hi All, Not sure if this is the right place for this post. I have a Sony Bravia KD65X8500D. It no longer responds to tv remotes. I have tried 3 new remotes all of which operate other tvs just fine. I am currently using a phone app to control the TV over wifi and am reluctant to do a factory reset resulting in no internet connection. There is no way I can see to access the menu without a remote. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas on what this could be? I'm hoping it's not the RF sensor. Thank you 🙏 [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jan 2021 09:55 AM PST I am a consumer of RCN and can only receive their IPTV service at my location. I have a device I received from them that runs on AndroidOS, but has a TiVo IPTV interface linked to RCN. If I have another android TiVO IPTV device is it possible to install the RCN app/software on it so I dont need to pay an equipment rental fee for additional boxes, just the addl service content? Not certain if anyone is familiar with cablecos and their new IPTV based offerings. The Device they provided is a RCN Corporation - eSTREAM 4K

Google TV with Bluetooth for Couples? Posted: 29 Jan 2021 02:18 PM PST Hi! I have an old TV where we cast through an old Chromecast to watch Disney Plus and Netflix. We recently became parents, and we're afraid that watching TV at night might wake up the baby on the next room. I'm looking for a wireless solution to our problem, however I wanted to doublecheck that we can connect two pairs of wireless headphones. Would the new Google TV (The one codenamed Sabrina) allow us to do this? Do I need to look for a different solution instead? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
