    Android Questions: "other" notifications?

    Android Questions: "other" notifications?

    "other" notifications?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 07:07 AM PST

What is the point of this notification category? It's like the phone wants to notify me but won't? I also get a lot of notifications that end up in this category that I can't dismiss?

Is there a way to disable this feature entirely?

I also can't apparently dismiss notifications without unlocking my phone first, which I find irritating. Is there a way around this?

    I'm on a OnePlus A6013 with Android version 10.3.7

    Pairing new bluetooth device question

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 09:46 AM PST

    New Android user here.

I am trying to pair my Bluetooth headset but only a few devices show up with names. The rest are shown with Mac address. I found a post that discussed going into developer mode and disabling devices without names. Now my headset is not on the list.

Any ideas on how to get a device with no name and apparently only a Mac address to pair? I have no idea how to find the Mac address of this cheap earpiece.

My images are all no longer sorted by date and time in any app that accesses them.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 01:53 AM PST

I was trying to send an image in Discord when I noticed all my images had gone out of order, rather than being organized by date and time. After the app crashed, I saw that the two images I took from my gallery app (still in perfectly fine order) had been shuffled somewhere into the mess of images again. This also affected Instagram. Is there anything I can do?

Is it possible for this to be rooted yet? And if not, will it ever?

Do Android developers know when you've *downloaded* an app?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 10:40 AM PST

Weird thing. I bought a FitBit this week; I had one years ago and really liked it, but after a long time it eventually died. I put off buying another, but finally decided to do so.

The important part of this is that I used to have it connected to the app on my phone, which was an iPhone 5. Since then, I have changed phones to a Razer 2, and I didn't do any form of data transfer.

My FitBit was dispatched from Amazon, so I downloaded the FitBit app - and did not open it and did not log in, in any way. Additionally, my Google Play account is with a different email address to what I used to use.

Later that night, I received an email, from Fitbit - the first one I've received in years - congratulating me on ranking up, or something. This is from my other email address.

So... How has that happened? How did FitBit know I downloaded their app? When you download an app, do Android developers know your email address? But even then, that wouldn't make sense either. I don't get it.

My phone screen stuck at facebook.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 06:46 AM PST

I was scrolling through facebook and suddenly my phone stuck at a particular facebook page and did not respond. I tried to restart my phone but the buttons were not working too. Then I waited for the battery to drain and after battery completely died I reboot my phone and the phone turned on and everything is working fine, but I do not still get what was the cause.

Checksum for APKs? How to check whether an APK is safe or not?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 08:55 AM PST

Assume I want to stay away from the Google Playstore and I can't get my hands on an app I need on the FDroid Store, but there is an APK either on the developers website or an APK mirror like apkpure how can I verify that the apk I'm downloading hasn't been replaced by an apk that looks like the one I want but also contains malware? I am thinking about swtiching from iOS to an Andoird based distro.

Edit: Assuming there is no checksum from the developer. A checksum provided by the mirror seems pointless since if someone with bad intentions can replace the APK with another version they probably also can replace the checksum.

Looking for a mic noise cancelling app

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 08:40 AM PST

I've been using my phone to communicate with my friends on ps4(using the playstation app) while I game on pc and would like to reduce the noise of my keyboard and game sounds when I use my speakers for my pc. Is there a good free app that would do this, not opposed to paying a few bucks if the app is really good?

Please help: Moto G5 with screen problem (Video)

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 06:25 AM PST

    Video

I've taken the phone to a repair shop but on that day the problem magically vanished for 5 hours, the guy opened it and cleaned the flex cable plug. Later I've sent him the video but he "doesn't think" it's the screen piece but a board problem. Should I trust him?

.nomedia no longer working after update Samsung S20

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 06:00 AM PST

So after the latest update all the pictures on my SDcard are showing up in my gallery even with the .nomedia file :( is anyone else experiencing this? Its really annoying since i have about 500 audiobooks with covers, so when i try to scroll my gallery its just an endless list of covers instead of the usual "screenshots, Camera, Snapchat, Facebook" folders.

    Thanks for answers :)

Wanting to use Samsung S6 Tablet as a Windows 10 PC mirror via USB

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 05:54 AM PST

Hiya guys! I've got a weird one for you. I just bought a Samsung s6 tablet (it'll be here in a week or two) and I want to use it for Adobe Illustrator - that's all well and good, right? WELL

I also want to animate on it with an app I can mirror my drawings with. I'm pretty set on using adobe (I've been through every Playstore program I could find twice and they all suck/lack 'tweening). So my solution is hooking my tablet up to my Windows 10 PC ala Wacom style and use it as a mirror of my Windows screen.

Does anyone know how I can go about doing this? I'm having a lot of trouble finding information online, and I figured this would be the most knowledgeable group to ask

Installation of some bloatware via ADB not possible

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 05:47 AM PST

    Hey guys,

my loved Zuk z2 broke after 4 years of usage. As a backup device I got a 360phone n7. It's a complete mess. No rooting possible (bc OEM-unlocking not possible due to no fastboot device found), no custom ROM etc.

So I debloated the phone via adb shell pm
However, the first time I removed one app to much resulting in not being able to connect to Wi-Fi. (I guess the settings were superimposed by some bloatware I removed)
Thus, I made a factory reset.

But now I'm not able to debloate the phone completely. Some apps I was able to uninstall or disable via ADB before are not affected now.

    • com.qihoo.appstore (chinese appstore)
    • com.qihoo.browser (chinese browser)
    • com.sohu.inputmethod.sogou (chinese keyboard)

However, all these apps are located under /system/app/... (like the ones I could remove/disable)

I tried a lot of commands from http://adbcommand.com/adbshell/pm
mainly adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 PCK_NAME or adb shell pm uninstall -h --user 0 PCK_NAME as well as adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 PCK_NAME and adb shell pm disable PCK_NAME but without any success.
When trying to uninstall via ADB the response says Success yet the app wasn't affected. When I try to disable the apps, the response I get is com.qihoo.appstore new state: default , but it has not been disabled

Do you guys have and suggestions on what else I could do to get rid of that sh*tty apps? I just don't understand why I was able to uninstall these 3 apps with exactly the same approach, but now I'm not able to do so

TLDR: Not able to uninstall/disable some system apps via adb shell pm

BTW: If sb has a 360 phone as well and has some more information about which apps to uninstall and which apps to keep pls tell me

Is there a way to make the phone *just be a phone* when a call comes in?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 05:46 AM PST

The phone rings in my pocket. That's one ring. I wrestle it out of my pocket. That's two rings. By that time, the phone is on some really helpful screen, such as the wifi setup screen or the alarm clock settings screen, or anything but the phone. By the time I get rid of whatever that is, my finger is just approaching the accept call slider, which disappears milliseconds before contact and I miss the call. This happens over and over, about 90% of the time. Then it's ten minutes of phone tag with the person and the voice mail they are trying to leave.

The act of pulling it out simulates the downward swipe of the settings menu, thus La-La land.

I'm an active person in a field which requires somewhat gymnastic movement. A belt clip is likely to catch on something while I'm on a ladder and drop 50 feet. The phone needs to be in a secure cargo pants pocket in a sturdy otterbox. I run a business and pretty much need to answer most calls. I really can't understand how people go around with a phone sticking halfway out of a yoga pants pocket have the thing survive more than a week.

Is there a way to make the phone JUST BE A PHONE when calls are coming in? Just have two choices, accept or reject calls, nothing else can be selected, and not have a random touch of the screen when I'm getting it out send it into La-La land?

Check if data has been taken from the phone

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 04:00 AM PST

Hello, my mother has lost her phone and someone found it and I would pick it up later. It is an Android device(Xperia z5 mini) and it was not secured with a passcode therefore he could call me. Is there any technical way to find out if the gentleman pulled down the data from the phone?

    Thanks in advance!

    LGG7thinQ - Force dark mode/overlay

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 02:16 AM PST

So, recently I got off of IOS, and I will say that literally the only thing I liked about it was the smart invert. I was wondering, is there a thing like this, except for making a dark mode? Basically if it took something like #ffffff and turned it into a really dark gray or black, then that would be awesome. I also know about the android default dark mode, which I have enabled, but it doesn't work for everything. Is there any way that the system can inject dark mode into the apps? It would be great if I could find some AMOLED thing, but whatever works ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I have a Verizon LGG7 thinQ running G710VM21b software and my build number is PKQ1.181.105.001. Thanks

    My phone charges itself

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 12:44 AM PST

I have a Samsung galaxy a20e, it was on 97% on maximum battery saving mode and aeroplane mode. I turn it off and wait a little bit, I then turn it back on and it's at 100%. It was not on charge at the time. Can anyone tell me why this happened, please?
