| Google play download through download manger Posted: 17 Jan 2021 06:38 AM PST So my phone had a google play update or download and it said download manager (like it was downloading in there or whatever) Idk if I should be worried about that?? I wasn't on a suspicious site but it's weird to me how that downloaded and I can't find any trace of it, nowhere or maybe there is and I'm not looking in the right place. [link] [comments] |
| Two phones. Same SoC. Completely different experiences... Posted: 17 Jan 2021 10:03 AM PST I've been using LG stylos for a few years. My most recent the 5, was the best mid range phone I've ever owned. It cost so little. Never slowed down. Was powerful enough to edit long 1080p content and .RAW photos and had an amazing screen and battery life. Plus a whole bunch of amazing features, like being able to USB-OTG and transfer files between thumb drives and SD cards. It replaced my laptop, which broke anyway. Well the Stylo broke when I dropped it one day, and I couldn't afford a new screen so I had to buy a cheaper Chinese phone to replace it because the stylos were out of stock everywhere I went. I ended up with a CoolPad Legacy S. It uses the same snapdragon soc as the LG stylo and has an extra gb of RAM, a bigger screen and is almost as nice Only one problem..... On the LG, I can be using any app, return to the home screen, and come back to the app exactly as I left it. Basic android experience. Nothing surprising however when this is taken away from you, one quickly realizes how important it is. On the CoolPad, everytime I am in an app, if I return to the home screen, the app is closed like I exited it and when I return to it, everything I was doing is gone and it's like I opened it for the first time. It's crazy. The phone claims to have 3 full GB of RAM and it's never more than 40% used when I use the memory cleaning apps. It's not closing apps because of a ram limit, I don't think at least. This wouldn't be so bad except here's where it is. Youtube, getting a text. To reply to text I have to use the notification reply to keep watching a video but if I switch apps and go to SMS and back to youtube, youtube forgets my video and the place it was at. Extremely fratrating when I'm listening to an audio podcast and the screen is static and I have no idea of the timestamp to return to. I've spent more time trying to get to certain points of podcasts than it takes to listen to it straight through. And it plays the commercials again on every app restart Also, let's say I'm signing up for a website and they send me a verification code to email or text. If I CHECK that code and come back to the browser, the website will be gone and I have to start the entire process over. This exact thing has been preventing me from applying to EDD and making an account with the IRS website for getting my stimulus. It even does this to the home app. Whether it's the built in one or a lightweight home app from the Play Store. Even going from any app to the home screen causes the home app to load again like the phone is restarting. It makes everything so impossible frustrating. I'm at my wit's end with this phone and I don't have the stimulus money yet to replace it with another LG stylo. I would have never let it get this far if I had even the 80 or so to get the screen repaired on the LG. TL;DR Buying a cheap android phone may have cost me access to $20k+ in government payouts and programs that I just cannot sign up for with a broken ass phone. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 17 Jan 2021 12:30 PM PST Hi, I have a Google pixel 3A while my partner has a Moto G7 Play android phone. I'm kind of confused about where the photos are stored when taken on both of the devices. I heard about the upcoming free storage limitation by Google photos application. Are the photos by default stored to Google photos cloud? Is there an offline copy by default of photos taken on Android? If yes, how can I find the path to the storage directory? What tips do you have for me not to hit the Google photos storage limit? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
| An app called "spam response" installed itself Posted: 17 Jan 2021 12:24 PM PST I have no idea where it came from, it was just there, I was also away from my phone at the time I think it installed. I deleted it, and am now scanning my phone using malware bytes. I looked at the app info, and couldn't find anything about it. The only thing I can think of, is I deleted about 4-5 apps at once to clear up space, so maybe my phone responded to that? (Though that doesn't make sense really.) My phone is a Galaxy A50. | Posted: 17 Jan 2021 03:30 AM PST Is there a way to increase privacy, perhaps performance and remove ads on facebook without breaking functionality? Android, low spec phone. My mother uses facebook on windows and android. Are there any options for this that i can set up for her which can be set up and forgotten? It would need to be quite reliable because i live quite far away and cant fix problems if those occour. It doesnt have to be 100% effective. Any gains would be a win. Thank you so much:) [link] [comments] |
| Is the S20+ better than the S21+? Posted: 17 Jan 2021 10:36 AM PST I was just comparing their specs, and besides the newer CPU, they are almost identical specs, if not worse. Like the resolution on the S21+ is lower, the RAM is lower, there are less cameras....Is the S21+ a downgrade? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 16 Jan 2021 07:48 PM PST I like Huawei and One Plus phones but am not a fan of chinese companies storing or accessing my data. For bots out there planning to get into what about company A/B/C. I get US companies aren't good either but I respect your choice so extend me the courtesy. If I install a custom OS or Google pure OS from XDA on the phone does it prevent that entirely/mostly/not at all? Not a tech guy but can use some adb commands or instal a ROM. [link] [comments] |

| Photos in local storage automatically deleted after uploading - How do I disable that? Posted: 17 Jan 2021 10:08 AM PST This is a relatively recent thing. I never used to have this issue. After a photo or video is backed up in Google Photos, it is deleted from local storage. I never use the free up space option and as far as I can tell there is no option to enable or disable this behavior. It's very annoying to have to wait for a photo I took yesterday to load and restore when I want to send it to someone. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 17 Jan 2021 10:02 AM PST Hey everyone. My Iphone broke and I need to get a replacement, but I am finding it hard to choose weather to stay in iOS or migrate to Android. So far I've only had Iphones (or dumb phones before) so would appreciate your opinions or observations to help me choose: - Privacy - Durability So, privacy wise, I know one can de-activate the constant wi-fi net search and other similar sort of "hidden options". But even so, I am not a developer and have no knowledge of coding or programing or related, so going deeper than the available options in menus and so, is not a realistic option for me. Durability: ok, I am aware that most likely I was "lucky" with my Iphone, cause I know of others that had a different experience. Another thing that I really liked about my iphone and I am not thrilled about the Android alternatives at hand is the size. I don't want super big screens. I appreciate operating it easily with 1 hand and it being "pocket-able". [link] [comments] |
| Phone Call During Factory Reset? Posted: 17 Jan 2021 09:50 AM PST Does anyone know what happens to a call if someone tries to call you while your phone is resetting? When in the process is your phone able to take calls again? Also, does it affect your factory reset at all? [link] [comments] |
| Can't open accessibility menu Nokia 8 Posted: 17 Jan 2021 09:41 AM PST Hi, title is as says; yes I have it enabled in settings There is no little man on the bottom right, nor is double swipe up bringing up the accessibility menu as help documentation suggests (It brings up the app tray). | Weird Behavior During Factory Reset? Posted: 17 Jan 2021 09:34 AM PST Sometimes when I reset my phone, the screen will go black and then go back to an earlier step of setup - is this unusual? Using a Samsung running Android 9 [link] [comments] |
| Use SD card entirely as a backup option? Posted: 17 Jan 2021 09:27 AM PST I know micro sd cards are going out of style but, I have an old v30 sitting around and I want to put it to some use rather than having it sit in a drawer. So I'm thinking of using it as a permanent backup of my mp3 collection I don't use much anymore but, nice to have if say I want to go for a walk around the block and don't have a data connection or something. What I'm wondering is is there a way to use a micro sd card without slowing the system down and only really use it for keeping a redundant backup of say photos/videos/music that were captured and uploaded to the cloud to offload space on the internal storage and in the case of catastrophic failure of the phone be removable? | Posted: 17 Jan 2021 03:21 AM PST Android Phone's Motherboard has a lcd display connector which is connected to the lcd display by a ribbon cable. I wish to connect the display connector to a pc instead of the lcd module. And after connecting to a pc I want my pc to display what the lcd module would have displayed if it were attached instead. Is this possible and how ? I have a spare xiaomi redmi 1s for this task and a windows pc. PS: I tried mirroring the display via traditional methods like via usb cable and wifi but the app I'm working on doesn't allow for that [link] [comments] |
| Using a "universal" display and interchangeable display adapters? Posted: 17 Jan 2021 09:02 AM PST First off, posting on mobile so sorry about the formatting. I have recently come into possession of about 100 android phones at various states of disrepair etc. The majority of these have black/dead displays. My question is; Is there product on the market that allows for a cheap display unit to be plugged into any phone with the use of interchangeable adapters? I have no plan on reselling said phones, I don't pay for any of my electricity cost so had been planning on setting up a bank of these phones mining XMY via yescrypt. I'm thinking if this product doesn't exist my next choice is buying 1 display unit per model and plugging in when I need to? I've assumed USB debugging is off on all of the devices and the ones with totally dead displays obviously can't have a "remote viewing" app installed to allow me to set them up. Ive got OTG adapters and Bluetooth mice etc for unresponsive displays but yeah these totally dead ones have me stumped and not wanting to pay out lol Appreciate any help. [link] [comments] |
| How can I get rid of this suggestion bar over My Google keyboard? Posted: 17 Jan 2021 08:55 AM PST https://i.imgur.com/APXSPHX.jpg The bar has a key for passwords, a credit card for payment info and a location marker for addresses. When I go to type a number, the bar appears above my keyboard and makes the page jump due to the change in size. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask! I had no idea where I should go. | Posted: 17 Jan 2021 04:28 AM PST This may be a moronic question, but I have no clue. It appears Huawei are no longer providing updates for the P20, presumably as part of the dispute over Google and trade. I absolutely love this phone; it's smooth, excellent battery, and suits me perfectly. I have no desire to upgrade my phone. So my question is, can I 'force' a security update in any way? Secondly, how important is a security update? Is it a "get a new phone" issue? [link] [comments] |
| Run a routine from a shortcut or app on the Home Screen without using widgets? Possible? Posted: 17 Jan 2021 04:15 AM PST I'm looking for a way to make a app or shortcut on the home screen to run a single routine from google home or assistant etc like Action blocks but not widgets. Is this possible using intents or something? Or talking to the google api? Or can I send a something like a web hook or text to google to run a routine Any help or ideas and work around would be appreciated thanks [link] [comments] |
| Slow or no loading of images/videos in Instagram android App while using Wifi Posted: 17 Jan 2021 07:32 AM PST Hello, I have issues with my Mi 9t pro with the latest OS upgrade. Problems persisted through several upgrades. My apartment has a 1000mbit line which works without problems. That goes for Instagram too, no problems on my PC browsing it. On my mobile I have 4G which also works without problems. But: whenever I browse through Instagram while being connected to my wifi (5GHz) images and videos load very slow or not at all. Everything else like chrome still works. As soon as I switch to 4G Instagram works fine again. I am clueless about what could be the problem. Any suggestions?
