Galaxy s21 and demise of inbox accessories

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 02:57 AM PST

I remember the time when the inbox accessories were a sign of luxury and it trickled down to the masses.

But the recent flagships are excluding a charger which is inexcusable

Think what if the TV didn't came with a remote

The flagship have raised the ceiling for smart phone price so high that u can a buy a car for that money now

I just wanna know your thoughts where this would leads foe us (the budget segmenr)

I interviewed Xiaomi PR about the newly "independent" POCO

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 03:16 AM PST

I e-mailed with a PR Manager for Xiaomi in Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg. You can read the full interview here, at my blog Tandem Tech (it's in Dutch, so Google Translate might be useful). Some highlights:

    • "POCO Global's product, sales and marketing teams are now operating independently. "
    • "POCO will be an independent brand sharing the MIUI operating system. POCO will have own marketing channels, retail outlets etcetera. However, since POCO is new we will still share certain resources on Xiaomi, like supply chain/ manufacturing but most important for our end users the after sales support and quality assurance procedures."
    • "The strategic plans for POCO are to expand the POCO smartphone portfolio in 2021. In the first quarter we will launch a few extra models, stay tuned. The price point from POCO will remain the same price level since POCO really focuses on "everything you need, nothing you don't" [...] POCO is really there to give the best specs at the best affordable price-level."

Conclusion: POCO is more free to develop it's own product line to compete directly with e.g. OnePlus, but it still depends on Xiaomi in a big way.
