Sunday Rant/Rage (Dec 06 2020) - Your weekly complaint thread!

Note 1. Join our IRC, and Telegram chat-rooms! Please see our wiki for instructions.

This weekly Sunday thread is for you to let off some steam and speak out about whatever complaint you might have about:

    • Your device.

    • Your carrier.

    • Your device's manufacturer.

    • An app

    • Any other company

    Rules

    1) Please do not target any individuals or try to name/shame any individual. If you hate Google/Samsung/HTC etc. for one thing that is fine, but do not be rude to an individual app developer.

    2) If you have a suggestion to solve another user's issue, please leave a comment but be sure it's constructive! We do not want any flame-wars.

    3) Be respectful of other's opinions. Even if you feel that somebody is "wrong" you don't have to go out of your way to prove them wrong. Disagree politely, and move on.

If gestures are the future, other app devs should use Snapchat as an example, their design is very natural and smooth with animations

I feel like they really nailed the gestures down and have done for a while.. while other apps are trying to go the "gesture" route but aren't 100% committing to it meaning half of the app has gestures and half doesn't (youtube) or the app animations just aren't as smooth as they could be

The main apps that I wish nailed down gestures (especially with tall phones) these days are:

    • Spotify (Its a shame cause they have nailed it (from my very little experience) on ios but on android they haven't tried very much..)
    • Twitter (has some nice gestures but could do more, like backing out from menus)
    • Instagram (they have made a very good effort though)
    • youtube (has gestures to go/exit full screen, minimise the video, but its not 100%, you can't swipe down the comments page etc)

In Snapchat, every menu, page, pop up has a way to naturally interact with it using gestures, it feels really nice. (Similar to how ios is)

Samsung have made a very good effort to reach this goal with one ui however its just not 100% there unfortunately (and some reasons are out of their control such as third party apps)

Interested in hearing what you guys opinions are on this, because I'd love for android to fully nail gestures and animations like ios
