Is an Android 7.1 32 bit tablet Still OK for a Non techie older relative? Posted: 14 Dec 2020 04:58 AM PST I have a Samsung Galaxy S 10.5 (2014) currently running Lineage OS (Android Nougat 7.1) on a 32 bit CPU. The tablet has run Lineage stably for several years but it is no longer supported by either Samsung or Lineage so it will never run a newer version of Android and I guess it may not be able to run newer apps either. I am thinking of giving this tablet to an older relative but I want to make sure I am not setting either them or myself up for frustration. They live in a different part of the country so hands on tech support won't usually be possible. I have tried giving them tech support over the phone before and it is very difficult. So my dilemma is whether to give them this older but still working fine tablet or to buy a newer tablet (which would be a budget model). This relative has used Android before but they are not at all confident with the technology. They will be using a fairly limited selection of Apps: Whatsapp, Youtube, Gmail, Chrome, Kindle, Camera and Gallery and a local library app. Each of these apps works fine on the tablet at the moment. My concerns are: 1. Are older unsupported versions of Android exposed to malware? 2. How long before standard apps like Youtube and Whatsapp no longer work on Android 7.1 or 32 bit processors? What's with the Android 11 share screen? It never shows the actions I actually take. Posted: 14 Dec 2020 08:46 AM PST My share page is always populated with people I never use the share screen to send things to and actions I never use the share screen for. I text/DM one person the most on every single platform and yet it will not show that person. It will show me the random (unsaved) number that just texted me a one-time-password an hour ago but when that person texted me a second ago it will not show me their name. Every once in a while I still see them pop up as a google photos share (they are the only person I share photos with on Google photos) or an instagram dm (I correspond with several people on instagram but mostly them) but never once has the share screen suggested I send a text to this person which is what I ALWAYS WANT TO DO. Is this a bug? [link] [comments] |
How many new phones actually have usb 3.0? Posted: 14 Dec 2020 10:15 AM PST I know USB C is basically everywhere now, but last time I checked most phone manufacturers cap it at 2.0 transfer speeds? I heard the first pixel had 3.0 but idk if any modern phones have it. [link] [comments] |
Android 9 killing music apps on background solution? Posted: 14 Dec 2020 04:01 AM PST Does anyone have an idea why background applications such as Spotify, Youtube Music, or any music player in general gets closed down on Android 9? I've never met this problem before on Android 8.1. I tried everything to stop the system from closing the app I even went to the developer's options but nothing seems to prevent it from killing Music Players. [link] [comments] |
Error while deploying app to play store Posted: 14 Dec 2020 11:18 AM PST I get this error while releasing my app to Play Store: Error No countries or regions have been selected for this track. Add at least one country or region to roll out this release. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Dec 2020 07:29 AM PST I attempted to use the keyboard included with my Fairphone 3, but had to delete it before I threw the whole phone out of the window. I am currently discovering how bad Microsoft SwiftKey is and cannmot understand how anyone could recommend it. This keyboard fails to correct the most obvious typos and instead brings up a little menu that covers the buttons I need to press to correct it which asks if I want tyo save its latest stupid mistake to it's dictionary. Every f***ING time. Also, the space bar seems yo dominate the bottom roe so words end up with gaeps asnd inevitably, are mot corrected. Please, domnebnody, just tell me a keunoaerd that is basic, tgast gets the simple stuff right without messing up it's own operation with stupid design decisions or poor programming (doesn't seem to be a difference). Android 8.1.0 freezes with input Posted: 14 Dec 2020 09:45 AM PST So I just got a new CAT S48C and it's quite nice, a big upgrade from my old phone. The only problem is it seems to get over stimulated and freeze. If I type too fast (normal speed) or try to use two fingers to zoom it will freeze and not respond to any inputs unless I lock and unlock it again. This is very annoying, any ideas? What is the best way to export all device contacts? Posted: 14 Dec 2020 05:46 AM PST I have a pair of old phones (Galaxy S7 & S9) I need to extract the contact data from. They are broken, and network connectivity/antennas may or may not work, I'm taking them to the repair shop, and they will hook up a temporary screen I can use. What is the quickest and easiest way to collect and export ALL the contacts on my device - local phone storage, SD card/SIM, Google account contacts, etc. Basically, when you open the phone dialer and you see the full list of contacts there, I want to grab that entire thing.
Of course be looking to import these pretty easily into a new device at some point, but also I will just be keeping them in a database for now (so it would be nice if I could just open a particular file or folder and somehow with you the contact list). Thanks. [link] [comments] |

Stock messages app in-thread search no longer working - any fix or alternative? Posted: 14 Dec 2020 08:43 AM PST All I can get it to do is search only the most recent texts I can see on screen (how is that helpful?). And it appears to be more focused on searching for links, which I've never found as useful since I can scroll and find recent links by skimming for previews. Will this be fixed? Is there a way to switch to a better messages app without losing my past conversations? I just want to be able to search for stuff like an address someone sent me or items on a shopping list by searching for related words in the conversation I remember: e.g. looking for an address by searching for the text I sent when I asked "Hey, what's your address?" Any solution would be great. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Dec 2020 08:34 AM PST For eg-: I want to take pics of whiteboards, my notes..etc. Mainly..So, what kind of camera specifications should I look into?? There are mega pixels, focal points and bla bla..Which I really can't seem to relate with my purpose. Any tips? I have googled already, and it is vague as fuck. [link] [comments] |
Vibrate keeps turning off by itself Posted: 14 Dec 2020 08:18 AM PST I keep my phone on vibrate pretty much all of the time. As of a month ago, I started noticing that my sound would randomly reactivate and I would get sound notifications. It happens several times a day that I put my phone back on vibrate only to get sound notifications and see that the ringer/sound is turned back on. Any ideas where to look for help on this? I've got a Pixel 2XL running Android 10 LegacyOS. I've restarted the phone several times. I have root so if there is any way to install an app that watches what changes the state from vibrate to ringing for notifications that would be great. [link] [comments] |
Is it possible to extract and export all of my device content? Posted: 14 Dec 2020 07:50 AM PST I have a pair of old phones (Galaxy S7 & S9) I need to extract the contact data from. They are broken, and network connectivity/antennas may or may not work, I'm taking them to the repair shop, and they will hook up a temporary screen I can use. I am looking to grab as much data from them as I can, though I don't necessarily need every thing. Basically I am just interested in all the saved files/docs/images, and the contents of one app (Samsung Notes). I'm trying to basically do this in one motion - take all the internal contents, and either copy them to an SD card, or send them out through the USB port to some external storage
In an ideal scenario, I would just be able to copy this entire directory tree to a different storage medium, and then access it there. That is, go in and open the file, and images and documents and so on. I understand some of the apps probably won't run since they need to be installed in an actual Android device, but it is really just that content data that is most important to me. Any instructions on how to go about doing this, even if it seems pretty elementary, would be appreciated, has I am something of a novice. [link] [comments] |

Camera lag issues x-post from r/lgg8 Posted: 14 Dec 2020 02:55 AM PST Hi, really need some help. I've had an Android LG G8 phone for about a year. Generally no performance issues. Over the last month or so, the camera app has started to play up...
I did a factory restore and think it was okay right after (didn't test it properly). I have since reinstalled most of the same apps and went to use camera today and same issue. I changed all the camera app settings (e.g quality, HDR, auto-focus, etc) that typical troubleshooting suggest vut the issue remains. I was going to do another factory reset though I installed the adobe camera app and pictures work fine so don't think it's a hardware issue. Seems more like something is interfering with camera app or maybe a bad update. Don't want to have to find and use a seperate app for videos too. Saw some others mention similar issues in the forum though not exactly the same and no resolution (no pun intended). Anyone experienced this and fixed it? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Fastboot not working on Umidigi A5 Pro Posted: 14 Dec 2020 06:20 AM PST Good Morning lads, I've been trying to get fastboot working for the last 8 hours but it just doesn't want to. It seems that every driver is installed correctly, yet fastboot won't respond to any command. I am at the end of my rope (and patience), so help would be greatly appreciated! How can I share a VPN connection through hotspot to a non android smart tv (LG UN74) ?? Posted: 14 Dec 2020 02:25 AM PST I have a cyberghost account which I activated by using the provided DNS proxy for Netflix US streaming When I check my ip through the browser it says I have a us ip adress But when I open netflix it's still my local region ( I know because no US exclusive shows are available) though it works flawlessly on my phone (redmi note 8 pro) So I turned to sharing vpn through hotspot which apparantely android doesn't allow without root And I saw people recommending using Everyproxy but I don't have any option for setting a proxy manually on my lG. I also have a ps4 but I don't know how to set up the proxy for it either Any workarounds or tips ?? [link] [comments] |
