How I do I create a Google maps links for my webpage that will open it in the Google maps App? Posted: 10 Dec 2020 07:32 AM PST I have written a Google maps API link which I have built according to their specification as listed in their documentation https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/urls/get-started As per their documentation clicking this link should the Google maps app as they've mentioned in the documentation,
However, when I use it in my webpage linked with "a href" element and open it on my android phone it open the map on the browser itself without prompting me to use the app. How can I change this behavior so that it opens the location in the Google maps App rather than in the browser? Is there an easy way to create a split dropdown button on Android? Posted: 09 Dec 2020 10:31 PM PST Such buttons are somewhat popular on desktop platforms and I wanted to try them in my Android project, but couldn't find anything similar in the standard and 3rd-party libraries. EDIT: a good split button drop down explanation found by /u/3dom [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Dec 2020 05:16 AM PST My resume only has one Kotlin Android side-project, while I have a React side project, React dev club position, and a Java side project. How do I show recruiters that I genuinely have an interest in Android dev? I worry that they'll simply view me as another college kid applying to anything he can find. I had the idea of expressing this in a cover letter. Is this a good idea? What other things are recommended? [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Dec 2020 06:02 AM PST Ok, so I have the following issue. I created a custom store listing to soft-launch my app. The custom store listing is for Romania (where I live) I have created the custom listing 4 days ago and still when I go to the Play Store and the only thing i see in Romanian is the short description. The long description is still in English (the same text as the main store listing). Am I doing something wrong? Did anybody else encounter this problem? [link] [comments]
AdMob sensitive categories allowed to be shown in 13+ app Posted: 10 Dec 2020 01:00 AM PST Hello! Need advice on setting AdMob sensitive categories to show in 13+ app properly. Is there any guide on which Ads sensitive categories are 100% allowed to be displayed in 13+ mobile app? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Using library modules rather than feature modules? Posted: 10 Dec 2020 03:48 AM PST I'm architecting a new app, and I'm aiming to build it using modules alongside Hilt. I've used library modules in the past for layer separation (e.g. database module, network module, etc.), and have gotten them working fine with Hilt (A side-effect of this is that I'm exposing some implementation detail that would ideally be internal to the module. See here.). I've never tried using dynamic feature modules before, but after watching this talk, I thought this would be a good opportunity to give them a try. Unfortunately, Hilt does not currently work with feature modules, and although you can get it to work with Dagger using the method described here, it removes a lot of the benefits of using Hilt. I'm now considering simply using library modules for features, at least for now, as there isn't currently much of a use case for dynamic delivery in my application. Does anyone know of any reasons I might not have considered that makes this a bad idea, or any major benefits of using feature modules other than dynamic delivery? TL;DR: If I don't need dynamic delivery, is there any reason that I shouldn't use library modules rather than feature modules to modularise the features in my app? [link] [comments]
Google Play Developer Console file verification - is there any? Posted: 09 Dec 2020 07:28 PM PST I'm always paranoid that the apk files uploaded to the developer console will have errors in transmission and potentially cause subtle errors in my apps. I usually download the apks from the console again and at least make sure they install and start on devices. This is fairly time consuming as I have split apks. Is this being too paranoid? Is there some kind of hash check the console uses to verify file integrity? [link] [comments]

AndroidKeyStore Strongbox/hardware backed key location Posted: 09 Dec 2020 04:04 PM PST I was wondering if keys generated with the AndroidKeyStore are stored inside the hardware-backed stuff or if they just get stored in an encrypted Keystore file. For StrongBox, I was wondering the same since it states it has its own secure storage. I could not find any information about this besides the fact that the KeyMaterial never gets exposed. But this could also mean that the key store file is stored encrypted in the normal storage. I tried to figure that out myself but I am currently at 4200 RSA-2048 keys generated and stored with StrongBox on a Google Pixel 4a. If I am not mistaken that should be at least around 8.394.752 bits / 1.049.344 bytes. So quite a lot for such a small Titan M chip to store... (https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2018/10/building-titan-better-security-through.html) Any advice would be appriciated. [link] [comments]
Is Google's ML Kit and Firebase truly Open-Source Posted: 09 Dec 2020 03:13 PM PST I'm fairly new to development and I'm currently learning react native for Android development. I'm specifically using react-native-camera which in the instructions mentions integrating it with ML Kit and Firebase. I've come across software before from these big company's where certain elements tend to be open-source and they claim open-source but then these integrate with non-open source software if you want full functionality. I'm curious what the status is with ML Kit and Firebase. For example with image recognition, are they truly open-source or are there aspects where Google will be receiving and storing data such as the images being processed. I'd love input and alternative recommendations. Thank you! [link] [comments]
Mentioning COVID in our app description. Will there be any downsides or repercussions? Posted: 09 Dec 2020 12:01 PM PST I'm publishing a volunteering app to the play store and in our app description we mention the pandemic and coronavirus. Our app is not specifically focused on this but on Google's docs it says that apps that even mention the pandemic will be subjected to additional requirements. Would this hurt my app submission, take longer to review, or lead to a rejection? Edit: I have since removed any mention of the pandemic or coronavirus from the description. It is not mentioned anywhere else. However the app release is already under review. Will my app still be subjected to additional requirements and stricter evaluation? [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Dec 2020 03:11 PM PST I know that Flutter is for cross-platform app development, but, making UI is so much fun compared to XML, so do you guys prefer using Flutter in writing the UI or do you guys prefer to use XML? Why and why not should other people use Flutter / XML? [link] [comments]

Did http://download.crashlytics.com/maven finally go offline? Posted: 09 Dec 2020 03:45 PM PST I started working on a project that still uses Fabric.io's crashlytics. Yesterday, I could build, today that server is down. Crashlytics.com is up but that redirects to firebase where Crashlytics lives now [link] [comments] |
