Best non-free Apps on Android TV?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 05:32 AM PDT

I have a little bit of credit in my Google play account, and wondered if there are any suggestions as to the best non-free Apps on Android TV that I should get? Not looking for games, but free apps with unlockable features (one time only payments) I'm also keen to hear about. Thanks!

Does Chromecast Google TV support 24Hz over HDMI?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 06:45 AM PDT

If I'm playing a movie on Netflix, does it look smooth?

I'm asking because I had a nexus player(first gen android TV) hooked upto a Samsung. Whenever I played any movie, it used to have jagginess (highly noticeable in panning shots you cant unsee it when once your eyes start noticing it) I'm not sure if it was TV problem or the nexus player (that was interpolating 24hz to 60hz) .

I sold both of them and instead got a sony TV with android built in and 120hz panel. Everything looks just as it should. I want to try the new chromecast, because it has newer android TV and Google TV interface looks cool but worried about this thing.

Google TV - Outside USA experience

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 05:10 PM PDT

I installed the Google TV apk on my Android 9 Vodafone TV (Australia) box.

I'm getting recommendations from all streaming services available in Australia, not just the one I have a subscription with.

Shows available on the services I have a subscription show the subscribe button, which takes me to the show page within the corresponding app.

Binge which has contents from HBO are not linked to the app. For example Doom Patrol is showing as Buy Episodes from Google.

Please share your experiences of the new Google TV app on this thread if you are from outside the USA.

The new FW 6.7115 for Sony TV has someone try it

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 03:04 AM PDT

I to share a topic from the reddit about Bravia https://www.reddit.com/r/bravia/comments/iz0e77/new_firmware_released_for_sony_905f_in_la_with/. I would like to ask if anyone tested the newly released FW 6.7115 (FW for android tv from 2016-2018) in Latin America (so far only one region where it was released).

And whether it's really Android 9 or just a modified menu for Andorid 8 (which is written by the change log FW). I'm confused and the topic I share didn't tell me much.

Could someone who is testing FW answer me on which android it is running. And what are your experiences. I'm still waiting for Sony to release FW to the region for the United Kingdom and Central Europe. For now, my user impressions from the newly released FW update for SONY android tv would suffice. Thank you in advance for your answers

Adding Google Account on my AndroidTV (Pie)

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 02:16 AM PDT

    Hey all,

I'm not sure if someone has encountered this issue before or not. I have a miui tv 1.3.144( Android TV 9 - SDK 28) which is a Chinese version. I have been trying to figure out on how to install Google Play Store Android TV.

Does anyone know the list of APKs that is needed to get "Add Account" to give Google account option?

So far I have these installed with no error but I think Google Account Manager is not compatible with Android 9 TV

    1_com.google.android.gsf_9-28_minAPI28(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk 2 com.google.android.gsf.login_7.1.2-25_minAPI23(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk 3_com.google.android.gms_17.7.85_(080406-253824076)-17785070_minAPI21(arm64-v8a,armeabi-v7a)(213,320dpi)_apkmirror.com.apk 4_com.google.android.syncadapters.contacts_9-4832352-28_minAPI23(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk 5 com.google.android.syncadapters.calendar_6.0.44-267540251-release-2016267990_minAPI21(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk 6_com.android.vending_17.8.20-xhdpi_8_PR_285862578-81782068_minAPI21(armeabi,armeabi-v7a,mips,mips64,x86,x86_64)(320dpi)_apkmirror.com.apk

I managed to get Google Play Store Android TV running but clicking sign-in does not do anything. I suspect the issue is with 2_GSF_Login ( which is Google Account Manager).

I tried clicking Add Account from Android Settings is also the same(just hangs). I've gone to XDA for projector mod and it's also doesn't work.

Anyone knows any other way to sideload an apk so that Google Account is there on my android settings? I tried sign-in using Chrome but it also hangs.

Found this new option in "Chromecast built-in" settings, it's the option to turn OFF the cast notification, something we could only do in the Google Home app.

Hulu Live with new Chromecast (GoogleTV)

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 04:08 AM PDT

I know YouTube TV is going to be more supported, but what about the millions of Hulu Live customers? I set up my new Chromecast last night and they first thing I tried was "open ESPN on Hulu" and all I get as a response is "sorry, I couldnt find that channel". If Google is going to push their Assistant so much, they need to make it more usable for apps other than their own.

TiVo Stream 4K vs Chromecast with Google TV

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 03:50 PM PDT

Which would you get? We bought two TS4Ks, but they are just barely within the Amazon return window. I am leaning on returning them, as the CwGTV seems to be a more polished experience, though on the other hand we will get the Google TV launcher officially at some point in the future.

Edit: have decided to return Tivo's and purchase Google's device

Chromecast with Google TV cast from phone without internet (phone used as a hotspot)

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 01:16 PM PDT

Posing the question for anyone with experience. Looking for a way to bring my media library with me while traveling in my travel trailer. Is it possible to cast from my phone to the new Chromecast, without internet, say using my phone as a Wifi hotspot?

Chromecast with Google TV requires 5v 1.5a usb to power

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 11:19 AM PDT

So you can power it off your tv's usb port if it says it supports 1.5a or 1500mah or a higher number. If your tv only supports 1000mah or 1amp then you need to use the included brick. Most only support up to 1amp

Android TV stick that works on a local network only?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 07:56 PM PDT

    Hi,

I'm pretty much a privacy nut and almost all android tvs are loaded with ads and spyware (No offense to those who use them, just that I am paranoid). I mainly want a device that can read my media files over SMB using VLC. Is there a device that works with the WAN disabled? I initially want to use a firestick but apparently it doesn't work without internet. The new chromecast with android TV looks promising. Thanks!

Add a restricted profile new Chromecast

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 07:34 PM PDT

I have searched settings and online, but I can't find a way to create a restricted profile on the new Chromecast with Google TV. It is not like Android TV the setting is not there. I do like the device though so far. Any ideas on how to create a restricted profile on the new Chromecast? Thanks.

Chromecast with Google TV hotel login?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 10:46 AM PDT

Like the post says one of the biggest drawbacks to the original Chromecast and any Android TV was no easy way to login to a hotel or similar WiFi network with a secondary login that requires a browser to accept terms, check a box etc.

It's one of the reasons I travel with either a Roku or Fire stick but I'd much rather be using Android TV. Can anyone verify if this is possible? Logging into a new network that requires a browser?
