    Weekly "anything goes" thread!

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 05:40 AM PDT

Here's your chance to talk about whatever!

Although if you're thinking about getting feedback on an app, you should wait until tomorrow's App Feedback thread.

Remember that while you can talk about any topic, being a jerk is still not allowed.

Is there any documentation on how to create a Floating Widget?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 06:57 PM PDT

I'm looking to create something similar to Doordash's floating widget, but can't seem to find any tutorials on this type of widget specifically.

Looking for an android developer for a quick project - is there a dedicated subreddit or here?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 08:04 AM PDT

Like the title says, I would like to find an android developer to help out on a very small project.

Is there someone here who could help out (direct message please) or should I post in another subreddit - and if so, could anyone point me to the right one? Search found nothing :(

    As for the project itself:

A simple proof of concept so to speak - an app which can connect to a server and load text information. Something I can easily code in php and would like to have as an app so I can discuss and understand differences.

I have a basic app running in Android 4.0 connected via usb to a Galaxy A71. When I do a full build and run the app displays as it should in the A71 after 5 seconds but when I edit the code and hit Apply Changes and Restart Activity nothing happens on the A71.

Store listing requirements for beta app?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 07:52 AM PDT

I've got an android game that I'm ready to distribute to some friends for a beta test, ideally though the play store so they can get updates automatically with internal testing. On the play store app requirements I'm supposed to add screenshots and a logo? Can I just put something temporary here or does it need to be visually finished..?

#1 Floating Windows on Android: Jetpack Compose & Room

Learn how to use floating windows in your Android apps. The first lesson teaches you how to build the main app using Jetpack Compose and Room.

Have you ever wondered how to make those floating windows used by Facebook Heads and other apps? Have you ever wanted to use the same technology in your app? It's easy, and I will guide you through the whole process.

Author of this article is a developer of Floating Apps; the first app of its kind on Google Play and the most popular one with over 8 million downloads. After 6 years of the development of the app, I know a bit about it. It's sometimes tricky, and I spent months reading documentation and Android source code and experimenting. I received feedback from tens of thousands of users and see various issues on different phones with different Android versions.

Here's what I learned along the way.

In this article, I teach you how to build the simple main app with Jetpack Compose and Room.

New Google Play Console User Review Notifications are gone

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 08:48 PM PDT

New Google Play Console User Review Notifications are gone

In the older Google Play Console, we had an option to get notifications in the console when a user left a certain star review for any of our apps. In the new console, that option is gone and has been replaced by email notifications.

    This here is the problem:

    https://preview.redd.it/gq1ass4uslq51.jpg?width=718&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=df26ca761f481e58a471b404ae6fcd603858ca82

I have 50+ apps, and these emails start to become spammy and can make you miss other important emails. Is there a way to get the notifications direct in the console?

So we're launching an app next week. The app was submitted 3 days ago for publishing at the Playstore. Today we got a message saying it was rejected due to a violation of the metadata policy, We edited the error and resubmitted.

How long will the review take again? Will it take 3-7 days again too? also what's the average time for review now for google play? Thanks a lot, couldn't find any answers elsewhere so I hope to asked here :D

Question about Master/Detail flow and fragments

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 01:16 PM PDT

I want to create a sort of settings page, where the setting category names are on the left column (for a tablet) and the settings are on the right column for that category.

I'm having trouble understanding how to make it so that if I click on an item (category) on the left column, the correct settings page/layout appears on the right column.

Am I supposed to make several different fragments as my different settings pages or am I supposed to have just one "fragment" as the detail column that just switches what it displays?

So how do I: Open main activity, navigate to item list activity. The list of items then should appear on the left, and the first setting page should appear on the right. Clicking through different items will show me different settings pages.

    Thanks
