PSA: Google Play Store cache can get gigantic. Mine was 11 GB. Posted: 01 Oct 2020 09:39 PM PDT I was trying to find what was taking up all the space in my phone, and it turned out to be Google Play Store. 11 GB cache is crazy! I can't believe such an essential app is so poorly optimized. [link] [comments]

FYI/TIL - Google's Find My Phone "Play Sound" function is overridden by the Do Not Disturb function. Posted: 01 Oct 2020 11:01 PM PDT Last night, during my DND time, I thought I'd lost my phone, couldn't find it anywhere. Called it, no ringing heard in the house. Afraid I'd left it somewhere I pull up the Maps timeline and it says it's here at home. So I used the "Play Sound for 5 minutes" function...nothing. Played it a number of times, walking round the house, the yard, etc. Nothing. This morning I tried again and it immediately rang in the house. It had fallen on to a chair and was covered by something. The "Play Sound" section says "Device will ring for 5 minutes, even if set to silent" but apparently not if it's during the DND timeframe, the DND function overrides it. So if you're trying to locate your phone be aware that if it's during the DND time it cannot be made to ring. In DND I do not have many exceptions so I don't know how it would play out if, for instance, "Repeat Callers" is enabled. [link] [comments]

The Pixel 5 has almost the exact same "small" dimensions as the Galaxy S10e (Pic in post) Posted: 01 Oct 2020 04:31 AM PDT Case in point: https://i.imgur.com/h4AD11v.png Pixel 5: 144.7 x 70.4 x 8.0 mm S10e: 142.2 x 69.9 x 7.9 mm I thought this was interesting to point out, as "small" Android phones are rare these days. There are no reviews out yet for the Pixel 5, and it may not exactly be an upgrade. The Snapdragon 765G is 21% slower than the 855 that comes with the S10e. The design doesn't look quite as nice from the back in the Pixel. What may make the Pixel 5 interesting to you is the quality of the camera and probably the battery life. 4,000 mAh in the Pixel vs 3100 mAh in the S10e. (Although the Pixel has a 90hz screen which may impact it) The screen is 6" in the Pixel because it doesn't have that 'bottom chin', in the S10e it's 5.8". Whilst the Pixel 5 is not necessarily a complete upgrade to the S10e, it might be a worthwhile 'side-grade' if you find the S10e lacks in either battery life or camera quality (although I still recommend waiting for reviews). I believe the Pixel 5 can do 5G as well whilst the S10e can't. The Pixel 5 is expensive for now, but might be a worthwhile pickup during Black Friday / Cyber Monday. In any case, it's great to see another "small" phone for Android users! [link] [comments]
