Because I have only 32 GB in my phone I delete everything which is saved elsewhere also those videos that I sent to my friend, but later seeing them in the chat I noticed that they were corrupted. So is there a way to recover deleted videos from my phone? I tried several apps, but no one found the video. I also connected my phone to my PC and Recuva didn't recognize my phone. | Did I just install a virus APK? *facepalm* Posted: 07 Oct 2020 12:55 PM PDT (Literally created an account just to ask this) Ok so...I think I messed up a little bit... I was downloading an APK from Apkaward (a site which I find pretty reliable), but in the process I accidentaly clicked the wrong "Download" button and didn't notice (the APK had the name of the game I was trying to download so it wasn't obvious). I downloaded it and went to install it and...well, I did a couple of really stupid things... like, REALLY STUPID. The APK's icon was white and had no name but I still went to install it thinking it was just a glitch (Dumb Move No.1). Then my phone alerted me that this app was probably bad and that I shouldn't install it. I have seen a fair amount of the "This file might be dangerous" alerts in the past, but this one was a completely different one that I haven't seen before, telling me that I reaaallyy shouldn't install this APK. A very obvious red flag...I ignored (Dumb Move No.2). Then I think there was yet another alert which I again ignored (Dumb Move No.3) and then the app asked for permissions. This time, I wasn't dumb. The app asked for three permissions (I don't remember what they were) and I instantly went to deny them. When I tried to deny the first one, I got an alert that this app was for an older Android version and that denying this permission might mess with its performance...but I didn't really care, so I denied all three permissions (or at least I think I did? I am currently having the "Did I lock the front doors? I remember locking them, but dID i ReAlLy?" fear, but that's just paranoia and if I am not demented, I definitely denied all three permissions). Then the app opened, told me that it was for an older version of Android, and crashed. At that moment, my brain finally picked up on all the huge red flags and realised that "Hey, maybe I screwed up!". I looked for the app on the homescreen but I couldn't find it. I immediately googled which android antivirus was good for scanning phones and curiously enough, the first one I found a good review of was this "Mobile Security blah blah blah" by Trend Micro on Play Store. So I downloaded it, scanned the phone and voila! It found the no-name-no-icon app and I uninstalled it immediately. Then I proceeded to download a couple of different antivirus apps (mainly AVG and Malwarebytes) and scan my phone with them and everything seemed fine... However, I read that phone antiviruses are pretty bad, so here's my question - Is my phone safe now? Is there a chance that the no-name-no-icon app did something to my phone in the very brief period of time it was installed? What should I do? I have a Xaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro, it is fairly new (3 months old) and it has Android 10. Another thing that basically pushed me into making a Reddit account and making this post were permissions. I read somewhere that a virus can't really do anything on an Android if it doesn't have permissions. So, I went to permissions manager in my phone settings and found a creepy inconsistency. When you go to the permissions manager, you get the menu with all the various permissions. Under every permission you have "X out of Y apps allowed". I manually went trought all the permissions and I noticed that under the "Physical activity" permission it said "1 out of 2 apps allowed" but when I checked, no apps were allowed this permission and one was denied it! (the denied one was Google Maps). The same was true for "Location" and "Storage", but in their case the number of allowed apps was the same, while the overall number of apps was different. I don't know if this is just a glitch, but it got me paranoid so here we are! So...that's all. Somebody please help! (Obligatory "I'm not a native-speaker so if I butchered something, sorry!") Tl;dr - I installed a malware APK, immediatelly deleted it and now I am paranoid about the possible consequences. [link] [comments] |

| How to prevent a Browser App from being "default" for opening links? Posted: 07 Oct 2020 12:52 PM PDT I have 3 different browser apps, bromite, firefox and Chrome. I have different accounts for websites signed into different browsers. I cleared the defaults on them, but whenever I go to click a Reddit link from google for example, a pop-up asks me which browser I want to be the default. So if I choose Chrome, it will open links in chrome always even when using other browsers. I want the links to open up in whatever browser I'm currently using. I don't want a default jumping back and forth Is there a solution? [link] [comments] |

| Can I open Google Drive as a folder on a PC via phone? Posted: 07 Oct 2020 12:19 PM PDT So this is a bit of an odd one. I am currently on a training degree in a hospital where any and all cloud storage options are blocked. I have a lot of work saved on Google drive because carrying a Usb is very inconvenient since I'm constantly changing Scrubs. I lost 4 last year in year 1. I always back up, but I'd end up with so many different backup versions it was a nightmare keeping track! So I decided a cloud based drive would be ideal until they blocked them all a couple of weeks ago. So my question is this, friends. With Google Drive installed on my S20, could I access, edit and then update documents on there on a work pc with the phone plugged in and accessible on the pc? My other option is to just store the files direct into the phone which is my plan B if the above isn't possible. Just figured that would be kinda convenient so if I'm working at home or out, I don't have to have a cable handy. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 07 Oct 2020 12:17 PM PDT I am looking to switch to the Pixel 5 later this year from the iPhone 7, but I was wondering something in regards to Google Assistant and other features of Android. A lot of people are also talking about the Samsung S20 FE, which has better specs than the Pixel 5, so that's why I started thinking about this. Is there a difference between using Google Assistant on the Pixel versus using Google Assistant on other Androids (Samsung S20 FE), or is it the same exact experience regardless of the device? I know that the Pixel gets the updates earlier than any other Android, but do the other Androids eventually get the same update anyway? And if so, usually how much longer after? I'm just trying to see why people would choose the Pixel 5 over the Samsung S20 FE if they're the same price, but I think those 2 points are really the only things that would make a difference unless I'm not aware of other things, which at that point, please let me know! When we begin screen recording it asks to choose audio source. One of them is Device audio - Sound from your device like music, calls, and ringtones. I'm trying to access a hockey forum website (hfboards.hockeysfuture.com) on my Samsung S9 on data (no wifi at my work). It takes me to a blank screen. The load bar begins and disappears around the quarter mark, almost as if the page has fully loaded yet it's completely blank. I thought that it could be a Chrome issue but the same thing happens on Samsung internet. It also only happens for this specific website. It used to work fine and started doing this maybe a week ago or so. It also works fine on wifi and on data when I'm anywhere but at work. I have tried clearing cache, rebooting in safe mode and even factory reset but nothing helps. Is there anything else I can do to fix it or will have to give my phone in service centre? I did my routine of app cleansing with adb commands, (pm uninstall ). I deleted all app packages with facebook in the names. However after each reboot, the Facebook app shows up. Package name is com.facebook.katana, and this is the only app package that has name facebook it in, no facebook manager or services. It does it even when phone is in airplane mode, meaning it is not auto-download. It has to come from a system partition by a hidden app or process. Question is, how do I permanently delete Facebook? | S10 USB Constantly "Connecting and Disconnecting" Posted: 07 Oct 2020 09:55 AM PDT My S10 seems to have its USB port damaged some time ago, but due to its ridiculous repair cost (thanks to the port being fixed to the motherboard), I have just been using wireless and occasionally the usb charging works. However, since midday, under silent notifications, it keeps popping up USB connected, before changing to USB disconnected, and keeps alternating between the 2, resulting in my phone being unable to sleep before being activated by this silent notification constantly. I was looking at the android system app found in settings and that the USB connection notification is locked, as in I am unable to turn it off. Is there anyway to overwrite that lock to turn off that permission? Its killing my battery and just caused it to randomly overheat. [link] [comments] |

I have checked my phone and the bootloader is unlocked and the device is rooted, as far as I can tell I tried to install CORVUS but it seems that my phone doesn't connect to my mac (terminal error messages'command not found') when trying to 'CD' the rom. Is it possible to do without a PC? It's a second hand phone without personal details on yet so information recovery isn't something that I'm concerned with. Any information would be good that is. EDIT: so I have discovered I dont have root access error on flashify) But some root checking apps say that my phone is rooted...? [link] [comments] |
