| Posted: 24 Oct 2020 10:29 PM PDT I have a final stage Android interview coming up. One of the rounds will be a "bug squash" session where you're given an existing repo, and are supposed to resolve some bugs. If anyone has experience with these kinds of interviews, I'd appreciate some tips or best practices for approaching it. My strategy going in was just to rely on logcat and profiler to detect memory leaks or blocked ui thread/other issues. [link] [comments] | ||
| Emulate an Android Studio app in Genymotion or any 3rd party emulator Posted: 25 Oct 2020 05:46 AM PDT So I started using Android Studio on my Linux PC (8GB ram, i5). When I run the app the default emulator, it shows the google icon after 2-3 minutes, freezes itself and every other app. Laptop is not functional anymore. I have to hold the power button down. So I wanted to try Genymotion as many people said it was fast. But I couldn't find any Genymotion plugin in the marketplace. What is the solution? Or is there some other method. Can I run that app in genymotion from outside android studio (I think you can)? I want to get done with this as soon as possible as its for a project. I don't even like doing this. Thanks in advance!! [link] [comments] | ||
| Recommend me your fav ASO tools/platforms Posted: 25 Oct 2020 08:06 AM PDT I've tried a few with free trials, and not sure of the quality (e.g., App Annie showing Apple-related keywords for an Android app...) Have you had a good experience with any of the options out there? Any features you found specifically helpful? [link] [comments] | ||
| Running ARCore App on Android Emulator - Virtual Scene not showing in-app Posted: 25 Oct 2020 08:00 AM PDT I'm developing an ARCore app with Unity and I'm trying to test it on Android Studio's Android Emulator. I've built the .apk file and installed it on the virtual device but, when I run the app, I can only see the app's UI, the actual scene is completely black. I've already set the virtual device's back camera to show the Virtual Scene, and I've also allowed my app to access the camera in the virtual device settings, but the problem persists. If someone could help me out with this, I would be really thankful. [link] [comments] | ||

| Rescue View Sanity in Recycler View ! Posted: 24 Oct 2020 11:40 PM PDT More than 90% of apps have recycler views in it and 100% of them have listeners attached to it. If you don't follow the technique, you will go insane debugging your recycler views Check out my first tech article, feedbacks & suggestions are always welcome :) https://pooja-srivs.medium.com/rescue-view-sanity-in-recycler-329ce32b1613 [link] [comments] | ||
| Alarm manager not launching on time Posted: 25 Oct 2020 01:52 AM PDT
as you can see this is a simple alarm manager with a pending intent but instead of launching after 1 minute of time it gets launched as the program runs without waiting for the time passed [link] [comments] | ||
| WindowInsetsController in compat versions? Posted: 25 Oct 2020 05:21 AM PDT Hey, im starting to use keyboard animation and following this tutorial https://medium.com/androiddevelopers/animating-your-keyboard-fb776a8fb66d But i realized this is not possible to api under 30. There is a version to cmopat versions, or not possible yet and we still have to use globalobserver? [link] [comments] | ||
| Should I continue with my Google Ads campaign? Posted: 24 Oct 2020 08:02 PM PDT Hey ya'll I just wanted to ask a quick question. I've created and released an android app in August. Seeing it reach 50 active users in a few weeks (a rate of growth much higher than my other apps), I decided to experiment with Google Ads. Through Google Ads, I've paid about $20 and my active users went from 53 to ~200 in a matter of weeks. I stopped the ad campaign a few days ago since I didn't want to go down the slippery slope of spending hundreds on ads with little to no return (though I admit it was really nice seeing my downloads jump so fast). However, now I'm starting to wonder if I made a mistake. I wanted to ask for advice, given my growth rate so far (it might be really shit compared to others; idk at this point), does this app have potential? Should I continue advertising? Obviously it's impossible to give an answer with any certainty without seeing the app or any other information, but I was hoping to get some experiences from this sub from people who have had successful apps. Does this growth rate match the growth rate of an app that will become successful? Thanks in advance to anyone who replies, I'm fine with really any information to get a better idea of what I should do. [link] [comments] | ||

| Is it possible to add my custom entry to the popup when you long press and highlight some text? Posted: 24 Oct 2020 10:25 PM PDT Hi, I've just started learning how to use the Android Studio to build my own apps and was wondering if it is possible to edit this popup (https://i.imgur.com/WJEXc90.png the one showing "Email, Copy, Share, Select All") that shows when you highlight some text by long pressing. If it is possible, i intend to add an entry "xyz" which will send that highlighted text to a Telegram Bot that I've built. Any ideas would be appreciated, thank you! [link] [comments] | ||

| Keeping toggled button state in listview on orientation change Posted: 24 Oct 2020 02:43 PM PDT Hello guys, I have a listview with a list of items. On click, I toggle the items by calling this function with all the info I get from the cliklistener: How can I save the state of the items kept on orientation change. At the moment I am saving a list of clicked items to the bundle. But I dont know how to toggle them without the click. I hope this is clear. Thank you [link] [comments] | ||
| Anyone having longer than usual review times? Posted: 24 Oct 2020 04:07 PM PDT Basically my app, I don't know why, has always had 2 hour review times, almost exactly 2 hours. Then a couple of months ago I got a notice from Google that they would remove my app if I didn't fix something, fixed it and it was all ok. But since then my review times have been between 3 and 5 hours. I typically do updates several times per week. Anyway, today it has already been over 8 hours and I'm still waiting. Anyone having issues with that today? [link] [comments] | ||
| Native Android or Cross-Platform framework. From a job perspective Posted: 24 Oct 2020 12:16 PM PDT Hey guys. Lately I've been debating whether I should expand my experience in React Native development or just native development. I have pretty good experience in both, but want to focus mainly on one over the other and become an expert on that. Just wanted to know your opinions, what do you think would be the better approach. Especially in the job point view, which one generally has a higher pay, or which has more jobs in the wild, and anything related to that kind of stuff. Hopefully this post isn't against the rules. | Android Studio not working properly [Linux mint] Posted: 24 Oct 2020 12:04 PM PDT Hi There! So I recently downloaded Android Studio on my Linux Mint machine. And it doesn't seem to be working properly! I tried with both, the snap and the one from the official website. Some of the problem I am having: - There are some plugins that android studio can't find? (But it can find them when I am in Windows)? - My physical device doesn't seem to be detected, but in windows it does? - When I run an emulator, the emulator doesn't start, but it says "gradle build complete" What am I supposed to do? Thanks [link] [comments] |
