Does the Mi Box S support multichannel PCM?

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 03:55 AM PDT

After realising it can't do TrueHD / DTS HD bitstreaming, I wonder if it can do multichannel PCM over HDMI to my AVR?

Android TV remote control app for android phone requires location.

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 07:35 AM PDT

Anyone know what possible valid reason there could be for this? It's not like Google doesn't have access to this through play services anyway. Worse, if you don't enable it, the app refuses to run. Is there a way to bypass this or perhaps a less-intrusive app with similar functionality?

    Google Duo Update # 2

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 07:56 PM PDT

I made a videocall on Duo with a family member, it has the Xiaomi Mi Box (MIBOX3) and a Logitech C270 webcam, I was able to confirm that the voice was picked up by the webcam's microphone instead of the remote's microphone!, which means, Google is giving support only to Logitech webcams for the moment, but I just hope they add support to other webcam brands in the future.

If you have that webcam or any other Logitech UVC webcam and an Android TV device different than the Nvidia Shield, please confirm this as well.

We all must request to Duo developers to support all UVC webcams by sending feedback directly inside the app from the ATV device using a USB/Bluetooth keyboard to type more confortable.

    Thanks in advance.

    LG webOS to Android TV

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 12:31 AM PDT

So I currently have a LG Smart TV. It's good overall but the only problem I have with it is webOS. I'm thinking of buying an Android TV box for it. Also a lot of TV shows are simply not available on Netflix in my country so I use a VPN too. And it's not possible to cast my Netflix connected via VPN to the TV. Also my TV is not receiving any updates. So should I go for it?

    Google Duo and a webcam

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 04:15 PM PDT

My son loves talking to Grandma through our Lenovo 10-in smart display. So when Google said they were putting Duo app on Android TV I hopped on Amazon and found an "Aukey" Webcam That was very comparable to the top of the line logitechs that are currently sold out.

I installed the app plugged in my webcam which works. I get a picture but the picture is terrible. Does anyone know if Google will be fixing this down the road? or did I cheap out on a camera and this is the result. I mean it wasn't exactly cheap it was $60 but you catch my meaning would I be better off waiting and buying a Logitech when they become available again or hoping Google will be implementing a feature within the app to help third-party webcams calibrate?

Is there a cheap and good way to play 4k via my hard drive/tv?

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 12:53 PM PDT

    Hi,

My setup is very basic I download my stuff put it on an external hard drive plug it into my tv and play it. This works fine for 99% of files but I do run into an issue of compatibility sometimes. For instance my tv does not recognise PGS subtitle files which can be a pain when watching foreign movies as sometimes finding the .srt files which my tv can read can be tricky. Very occasionally I may have an issue with an audio format as well.

I would like to purchase some kind of device that I can plug my hard drive into and connect to my tv so it would be able to play practically every file type without a problem.

I have heard android boxes might work but I'm not sure if that would be the best solution, I have also heard good things about the nvidia shield boxes but I don't have the money to be able to buy one of those.

Can anyone here with more knowledge than myself recommend me a good solution that is preferably not too expensive?

    Thanks!

Best low budget box for Live Channels

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 12:28 PM PDT

I have a Shield and it is great but I need a low budget box for a guest room and the Shield is overkill for that. I just want something that can run Google's Live Channels app as well as Netflix. I tried a firestick and the lack of live channels was a deal breaker.

Xiaomi mi tv stick 2 big issues

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 09:53 AM PDT

    There are 2 issues.

    1. After 3 days of inactivity remote controller will lose connection to device and I am not able to turn the device on with remote controller. I need to unplug and plug to power again.

    2. If I want to skip this problem I will turn off automatic sleep and the device is still running. Problem with this is overheating.

Best Android TV in the 300-400 euros range?

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 09:31 AM PDT

    Hello,

I'm thinking of getting an Android TV but I'm not sure which. I had my eyes on the Xiaomi Mi TV 4S, but I've heard the image quality is disappointing.

    Any recomendations?

    Thanks in advance.
