What makes it so difficult for the manufacturers to roll out timely software upgrades?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:05 AM PDT

A lot of phones today either have non-existent or infrequent software updates barring a handful of devices.

I am curious about the technical aspect of rolling out a proper update to a device and why exactly is that such a daunting task for the phone companies in spite of many people constantly complaining about the same.

does my device reset after rooted firmware update?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 11:19 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I own a Oneplus Nord with an unlocked bootloader running stock firmware atm. I first ran rooted firmware but because the version back then was unstable (causing problems with my wifi), so I insalled the stock firmware back. Now I want to update the phone to a newer version but this time the rooted version. I'm a beginner in therms of rooting but I want I'm not sure if my device is going to be resetted after booting the phone up into fastboot and after that flashing the firmware. The proces of the rooting is almost the same as in this video (https://youtu.be/UVABAEGRgew). I assume if I update the firmware from a rooted version to a newer rooted version the result of it resets or not will keep the same.

    Thank you for helping

Is Qualcomm forcing 5G and making chips more expensive?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 12:13 AM PDT

I have heard that the 865 chipset is far more expensive because Qualcomm is forcing the 5G modem on all the manufacturers that are buying it and this is what's increasing the costs (ex: OnePlus) a lot more than expected. Is this true? If it is will they at least offer a non 5G variant for the next gen chipset?

what is this device admin app: 'Screen lock service' ?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 10:29 PM PDT

I noticed my Moto e5 settings has two active admin apps: 'Find my Device' and a peculiar "Screen lock service"...
The description reads as follows: "allows the app Google Play services to preform the following: set password rules"
The icon itself is slightly more pixelated/less defined compared to Find my Device & Google Pay's, but im unsure if that really means much of anything...

I am able to deactivate the app itself, however restarting my phone re-enable it each time... I tried searching online as to what it fully is but came up short as i only found forums of other reporting they have the same admin app enabled on their phone(s).
What exactly is this admin app? Is there any harm in having it enabled/disabled?
Does anyone else have this admin app as well?

Why is the new Google in-app browser so bad?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 12:28 PM PDT

They've swapped between the new and old one a couple of times (the new one is with "fancy" page loading animation).

    1. Despite logging into the same sites countless times, it's like I'm going to each one for the first time. Never logged into anything, get the same damn cookie, newsletter and please register popups EVERY time I go to those same sites.

    2. Auto-fill doesn't appear to work at all on most sites. I tap the entry box and... nothing. Use the menu to open the page in chrome and then tap the entry box and login options come up straight away.

    3. When using the Google search bar on homescreen, more often than not, items from my bookmarks don't appear in the drop-down (it's the main way I access bookmarks).

    4. Many sites just don't work. A good example is many shopping site Search functions. I tap the search box or icon on the site, the box opens, the keyboard pops-up then immediately pops down again. Once again, I use the menu to open that site in chrome and the search function works fine.

What was wrong with the old in-app browser? It was fine. Why do Google insist on pissing around with things that work? Why not put that time, money and effort into fixing things that don't work or are just bad (YouTube Music etc)?

Optimize settings feature not working as expected

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 06:20 AM PDT

Have others been able to use the optimize setting feature that will "automatically adjust your settings to save battery" at midnight if you're not using your phone? I particularly like the idea of it adjusting the screen timeout to be 30 seconds (or 15, if possible). But yesterday I had the screen timeout at 2 minutes, I wasn't using my phone at midnight, and today the timeout is still at 2 minutes. (Maybe my fitbit automatically syncs sleep data, so my phone didn't optimize?)

How to route certain numbers straight to voicemail. Galaxy s20 plus

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 12:01 PM PDT

Recently upgraded from the pixel 2 to the s20 plus and can't seem to find any information on how to route certain contacts straight to voicemail like you could with the pixel. The pixel just had an option under settings to do so. Hoping someone out there can help. Thanks in advance.

Former Google Play user looking for some help? Anybody got suggestions for converting streaming platforms?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 11:57 AM PDT

Ideally I want to just put my library on Spotify, but this push towards YouTube music has pushed me away from Google's platform (it was buggy anyway).

Any recommendations for a streaming platform/how to convert my Google music library? Would be greatly appreciated .

Why is Google Pixel 4a ship Time So Long?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 11:51 AM PDT

I just went to the Google Store to purchase a Pixel 4a and discovered upon checkout that the device won't ship until Oct. 16-17. But Best Buy says I can get it one month earlier, on Sept. 18. I wanted to buy from Google because I can trade in my iPhone 6 and get some money for it but I don't want to wait an extra month just for the trade-in. Why does it take Google one month longer to get this to me than it will Best Buy? Google makes them so I'd think they'd be faster. Thanks.

Is there any way to speed up my old Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 back in 2013?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 11:19 AM PDT

I recently found my old Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (7 inch) back in 2013 that I haven't used since about 2015. I thought about giving it a try but when I turned it on, it was extremely slow and laggy. There wasn't anything important on it so I did a factory recent and did the latest software update but it's still slow. Back then I mostly used it to play games but now I want to use it for my college work and studies. Is there any way to speed it up and restore it to a usable device.

Is the Samsung Galaxy S20 or the S20 ultra a good phone? I primarily want it for the camera, I prefer phones for photography. My current phone is the Samsung Galaxy A5 and it's slowing down.

My Samsung A71 has this constant digital popping sound when I listen through headphones

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 04:59 AM PDT

It's not really noticeable when I listen to music but when I listen to quiet audio or a podcast when it's just people talking, I can hear this faint digital popping sound that occurs whenever a person starts talking or audio starts playing. It's almost like a metronome pattern. Or a clicking sound or digital artifacting. I've tried using three different headphones, including the official Samsung headphones that come with the A71 and its still there. I've tried a few different things including disabling NFC, mobile data, wifi calling. But it's still there. I went into the developer options and changed my Bluetooth audio settings including the audio codec from SBC to every other codec and changed the sample rates and hertz and other settings but it hasn't made any difference. I can still hear it regardless. I don't really know what to do now I'm pretty stumped.

Mount Android files anytime it's plugged into my computer, unlocked or not

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 10:51 AM PDT

It's really frustrating. Having to mess with phone menus every time I plug it in instead of it just working - I want my phone to mount to my computer automatically, every time, without prompts. Plug it in, copy files, that's all.

I've already set it to auto mount when it's unlocked I guess, but it doesn't work when it's locked. How do I fix that?

What is com.android.vending>..>dna_data and why is it taking so much space?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:04 AM PDT

I'm trying to clean up my phone for more space. My phone's built-in space usage showed as following:

    https://imgur.com/BEmD6PL

Android>data>com.android.vending is taking 2.31 GB and I don't understand what it is. I looked it up on the internet someone said it's a package or something. The dna_data folder is the the last folder which contains the files amounting to 2.31 GB. I don't understand what those files are because each application on my phone has it's own data in its own folder which makes me wonder what this folder is for. Can I delete it is a stupid question but I need answers.

    Thank you in advance!

Phone says wrong pin number when trying to set up Gmail account.

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 10:34 AM PDT

I want to set up a new Gmail account on my phone. When I go to 'Add Account' it says to enter my device PIN. I do that, and then...

.. It says it's wrong. I literally had the card with the pin number of my phone in my hand whilst I did this.

I have not made any changes to my pin number on my phone, ever.

Any ideas on how to disable this?

    Stuck on Bootscreen

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 10:20 AM PDT

    Following situation:

I tried to root and flash my old Sony Xperia Z3 compact which I have been using as an mp3 player. I successfully did so (I think), however when I wiped my data to flash to linage os, it gave me error 7. I assumed it was because my TWRP version was way out of date so I updated that, and hit "reboot into recovery" to activate the new twrp version.

Unfortunately the phone didn't boot into recovery and just wound up stuck at the sony screen without anything else since no OS is installed.

I can't boot into recovery or fastboot manually either, it just boots into the sony logo and gets stuck there.

I do have a backup in twrp but I can't install that since I can't get into recovery, and I can't manually access the storage since usb debugging is not active while on the sony startup screen.

Is there anything I can do or is my z3c rip?

I am on android 8.0 and I have just created the work profile recently. Turning it on made my phone to perform slowly so, I decided to switch it off for a while but now it doesn't turn on.
