Is it possible to disable notifications by Gmail label? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 04:34 AM PDT I receive work email to my private inbox, but I filter it out to a separate, work label (filter by keyword). Is it possible to disable notifications on my phone for all mail that are flagged with this specific label? I want all these emails to stay unread and in the inbox upon arrival, too [link] [comments] |

Updated to Android 11, now apps aren't functioning properly Posted: 25 Sep 2020 08:36 AM PDT I updated to Android 11 when it rolled out, but as of this morning multiple apps are not opening. They'll open for a split second, then close right away. Some examples are:
I have restarted multiple times, shut down for ten minutes and then started again, and Googled the problem with no results. Can anyone provide any insight, or has anyone run into any similar issues? I'm using a Pixel 4XL on Verizon for reference. EDIT: I was hoping to avoid this and keep it as a last resort, but I wound up doing a factory reset. Things appear to have resolved after that. Bug: won't send messages to iphones over 70 characters if one has an accent. Posted: 25 Sep 2020 10:30 AM PDT I tried sending a message to my mother with the word "fiancée" and kept getting an error. I did some trial and error and got to the conclusion in the title. Can anyone else try and confirm? Any theories as to why? Info:

Can I turn off "tapping" the top pull down menu? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 07:58 AM PDT There's a game I play that has game options on the top of the screen. Every time I try to tap on the game icons, the Android pull-down menu pops open over the game. I effectively can't tap the icons on the top of the screen. I have a Pixel 4. Thanks! Posted: 25 Sep 2020 08:24 AM PDT Hi, im using a Samsung Galaxy A7 2018, bought it a year and a half ago, this problem is driving my crazy, sometimes the screen just stops recognizing my fingertouch in real time, and it does like 1 attempt per second, let me explain, its a little bit confusing, when i move my finger slow, very slow, but constantly, the screen is detecting my finger like it moves, and then stops, moves it again and stops, it doesnt like it is detecting my finger moving constantly, the faster my finger is, the less noticeable is the effect, but i notice it beacause is hard to scroll like in web pages or instagram, this happen sometimes, not always, and by the way i cant type in the keyboard as fast as usual, the screen detects various inputs separately (like pressing a letter in the keyboard one by one) but like a one giant swipe, when it happens again i will record the screen and upload it somewhere, i tried using catlog to find something strange, nothing, tried safe mode, still not, even i made a hard reset of my phone and still have this bug, there is something left i could do to stop this thing to happen? Keeping phone charged whilst plugged into HDMI adapter, help. Posted: 25 Sep 2020 11:49 AM PDT I know this is a massive long shot and I hope I've come to the right place, but can anyone give me some direction on where to look here, please? Basically, I have an outbuilding that I want to convert into an entertainment / productivity den. I have a fairly high end Android phone (SD855) which I want to mirror on to the TV. The outbuilding runs off a 12v battery, and I have an HDMI TV that runs off the 12V. I also have a 1.4-ish amp USB charger. So the ideal setup would be to plug my phone the adapter, then the adapter to plug into the USB charger and whilst plugged into the HDMI on the TV. At the moment this works but it's not practical. The adapter is draining my phone rather than keeping it on charge despite being plugged into the charger negating the whole setup. Having said that, the adapter is pretty all-bells-and-whistles with lots of different ports so I suspect it's probably fairly inefficient. So my question is, are there lower power adapters out there? Or is there a better way to do this? And no the USB on the TV is a very low power one and a wireless stick would need an axillary power source which would cause even more wires and mayhem. Switching back to Android... questions on file-based encryption. Posted: 25 Sep 2020 08:03 AM PDT I always consider myself an Android guy at heart, but switch back-and-forth between iOS and Android (my personal devices have been 4 iPhones and 3 Androids over the last ~10 years...currently using an iPhone X). I have a Pixel 4a being delivered today. One of the features I have always liked in iOS is the hassle-free encryption. If my phone were to die or be stolen I am not worried about someone removing the storage and data being recovered. If I factory reset and sell the phone I am also not worried about about my files/messages/photos being recovered off of the device by anyone even trying to get access to them maliciously. Realistically that is the ONLY reason I use iOS. I am trying to gain confidence in Androids encryption. I did read that metadata is now encrypted if the hardware supports it. Here are my questions:

android 5 - unable to write on sd card Posted: 25 Sep 2020 11:28 AM PDT i am using android 5 stock (original from google, no mods), it is rooted, and uses twrp 2.8 i dont use any weird apps, nor anything that could get me a virus o any sorts. My mobile is mostly a glorified digital camera, that has an app to chat with other people (whatsapp) and i dont use it for not much else. i was able to write on the SD card until yesterday, no for no apparent reason it doesn't anymore. the sd card is selected, you can take pictures and even make videos, not a single error message, the only thing is, nothing is saved. seemingly the sd card is locked, could not confirm this. Tested the sd card, and it works as intended, i tested the mobile with all sorts of sd cards, but none worked. The sd card port does work, as i can copy TO and FROM the sd card with a file manager (on the mobile itslef), as also connecting it to a pc and moving files with linux and windows. i need help quite urgently as the internal storage only has 600mb free, and the external card has 28gb free so how can i fix this? many thanks! Who offers longer support through updates? Google vs Samsung Posted: 25 Sep 2020 07:02 AM PDT I'm supposed to select a new phone for a co-worker. The only condition is for it to have the longest possible support duration. I have absolutely 0 experience with Android phones, so i hope to get some good input here. Google's Pixel4a will be supported until August 2023 and I read that Samsung guarantess at least 3 major updates for their flagship phones, which doesn't seem to say anything about the actual support duration. Now during my research I came across a lot of articles saying that Samsung's Android updates are often heavily delayed and there were in general a lot of issues regarding Samsung updates in the past. Right now I'm leaning towards the Pixel4a. [link] [comments] |
Locating an android phone that does not have GPS set to always on Posted: 25 Sep 2020 10:20 AM PDT We lost one of our Android phones and need help locating it. It is powered on and reachable via "Find my Device", which shows battery level and option to ring, but not location. Being that she uses Google Maps regularly, I expect that she allows apps to use her location, but not the OS by default? As the phone is still online, I can go to the Play Store on a PC and "push" apps to her phone. Is there an app or anything I could "push" that would locate her phone without her having to have the phone in hand first? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Sep 2020 10:16 AM PDT Hi All, With most of the specs and price finalized for the new Pixel 5, how do you think it fairs against the OnePlus 8 Pro? Is the bloatware on the 8 Pro that bad? Thank you all in advance for your insights! [link] [comments] |

Hi! My google assitant app downgraded! Posted: 25 Sep 2020 09:16 AM PDT So I have a Samsung Galaxy s10 and recently updated it to one UI 2.5. My first nice upgrade was that my google assistant had fully changed and felt more fluid, but just a week later it downgaraded itself to an earlier version and I was really enjoying the fresh new look it had. Has anybody had this issue before? and if so, how could I fix it? Thanks very much Greetings from Mexico 👋🏼 [link] [comments] |
Anyone know how to fix screen rotation problem? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 06:51 AM PDT I'm using a Google Pixel 3a and after updating to android 11 earlier this week, I've been unable to use screen rotation. I've tried to use it in apps like YouTube, Reddit, Twitter but it does not work anymore. Screen rotation worked fine before updating to Android 11. Could this be a bug in this latest update? any advice will be appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Bluetooth is broken on my phone. Any ideas to fix? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 06:10 AM PDT In the last few days the bluetooth on my phone has been pretty much unusable. I have to keep my phone right next to the bluetooth device to get any connectivity otherwise it is really choppy or just disconnects automatically. I used to be able to keep my phone in my pocket and it would stay connected just fine but now I have to hold my phone no more than a foot away from the bluetooth device with nothing between the two. I know it is an issue with my phone because I've tried it with two different bluetooth headphones and a bluetooth speaker and it has had problems with all 3. I've also tried it in a variety of locations to make sure there was no interference from other bluetooth devices. I'm not sure if it is related but I recently got an update on my phone (seems like one of those firmware updates from your service provider. I'm not super tech savvy, sorry) and it seems like the problems may have started since then. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this issue? My phone is a Samsung Galaxy A20 and my provider is T-Mobile. [link] [comments] |

Facebook - streaming with face cam and back cam at the same time? + playing music question Posted: 25 Sep 2020 05:25 AM PDT It's very hard to find anything which is weird, seems like a basic feature to have but I can't barerly find anything and what I found didn't work or required an external camera which is riddiculous. Also I wonder if can you play music from the phone so the viewers will hear it in good quality like on PC? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Sep 2020 05:05 AM PDT I've seen a bunch of videos on tiktok of people making sounds for certain actions on their phone, e.g. making Siri say something when you plug your charger in. I was just wondering if this was possible at all on Android. (I'm on Xiaomi mi 9 if that makes a difference). Example from tiktok [link] [comments] |
