Is it possible to get malware from website on android without downloading anything? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 01:30 AM PDT I am not talking about adware that infects your phone with popups since i know its possible if you allow websites to send notifications. I am thinking about malware that takes control of your mic/camera or gets keylogger into your phone. So lets say you just visit a website on android, dont download any apks, dont install anything, dont allow any permissions to a website,is it possible to get that kind of malware? [link] [comments] |
Galaxy S20 FE or wait for Pixel 5? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 08:13 AM PDT Just recently sold my phone in hopes of putting the earnings towards an upgrade. I'm eyeing the S20FE because of the high refresh rate and basically no compromises experience. I've heard the Pixel 5 will also be a midrange priced phone, so I'm wondering if it is worth it to wait? Reason being, I usually prefer Pixel phones for the stock experience, I've had poor experience with Samsung One UI in the past. I had a Note 9 and battery life was pretty bad, UI was choppy and after only 4 months of use. Swapped it for a OnePlus 6T and it fixed all those problems, even with a smaller battery capacity. Are these issues with Samsungs UI fixed? My friend has the Note 20 Ultra and the animations and UI look so smooth. I guess maybe I'm asking this question a bit too soon, Pixel 5 hasn't even been announced yet, but I would like to discuss. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Why is my Android location terribly off? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 09:29 AM PDT I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 and the location for my device is off by 50 km. Anyone else experiencing this recently or at least know how to solve it? [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to silence (not block) unknown callers? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 12:22 PM PDT I am on Samsung S8 and I want my phone to not ring when the caller is not on my contact list. I cannot block unknown callers because my work often requires that I pickup calls that I don't know the number yet. However, with so many bot calls recently, it has become a problem. Also, they often call me when I'm asleep and I don't want to put my phone on silent, since a family member or something can call me, or whatever. I use the Samsung spam detector from Hiya, but they just inform you that the caller might be a fraud/spam, they don't actually block the call or anything. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks EDIT: It seems this is featured in IOS, is there something similar on Android? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207099 [link] [comments] |

Samsung Note 20 Ultra sRGB enabling in Developer Mode. Posted: 30 Sep 2020 11:57 AM PDT I'm wondering if there is any noticeable/practical advantage to enabling sRGB for my picture color mode in the developer mode settings on my Samsung Note 20 Ultra. I've had them enabled and I haven't noticed that much of a difference after a day, but I also haven't had a chance to mess around with it very much yet. Is there a general consensus on using RGB? If it is better, then why is is disabled by default? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2020 11:40 AM PDT Sorry for a dumb question. When I go to storage it lists 4.8 GB in Documents, Images, Videos, Audio, and Apps, but on the top it says that System/User data is 14.8 GB. What and where is the other 10 GB and how can I delete it? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Some pictures not showing up in gallery? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 11:22 AM PDT I just bought a Moto G 8 plus and I'm having some trouble with the gallery. Some of the files in my phone aren't showing up, when I download wallpapers from Zedge, for example, they don't show up in my gallery... I can find them using the "files" app, but they don't show up in the "photos" app that came with the phone. I tried downloading another gallery app, but they can't seem to find them either. Note: I can find the pictures in the "files" app, But I have to navigate through the folders manually, the pictures don't show up in the 'images' category. I also tried downloading some videos to see if they would have the same problem and they kinda did; they don't show up in the gallery or the 'videos' category of the "files" app... for while, I downloaded a video yesterday and it didn't show up until this morning (it now shows up both in the photos and files apps), but a video that I downloaded today isnt showing up. So I know that the apps can find the files and categorize'em as videos, but they're not doing it for some reason. [link] [comments] |
Android Auto has not worked in Months Posted: 30 Sep 2020 07:29 AM PDT Phone: moto x4 OS: Android 9 (PPWS29.69-39-6-11) Vehicle: 2015 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T Sport Limited I essentially bought this car for the purpose of using Android Auto since before I straight up had a beater without even an AUX connection. However, absolutely nothing related to AA has worked for me. Whenever I connect my phone to the car's USB, Android Auto will work for about 10 minutes. Then it will randomly display "Connecting To USB" rapidly on and off, like it's momentarily connecting then immediately disconnecting. Sometimes it will eventually successfully connect, other times it does this until I turn the car off. I can manipulate the wire however much I want going into the phone, it doesn't appear to happen due to a loose connection. During this the phone is charging perfectly and doesn't show it's losing connection from the phone's side. I had the actual USB port on the car replaced already with no improvement. I have tried 4 cables so far, with the most recent being from the actual Verizon store, and others from Amazon claiming to be Motorola OEM. I have cleared the cache/storage/data for Android Auto and uninstalled/reinstalled the app multiple times without success. I have also done this with the system's Bluetooth. At this point I'm not sure what options are left. Could I possibly need to go to the dealer and have the car's Android Auto system updated? Is my phone for some reason just a piece of shit and can't run AA? Next step is a factory reset but I'm not sure what that would do after clearing the cache/data/storage for AA so many times. I'm to the point where I want to drop $1000 on a new phone just to get AA to finally work for me, or even moving to an iPhone. I don't really have any other friends with Androids that could try out their phone. I've seen something about going into developer options-->USB settings, and changing that to MTP, but I don't have that option, only File Transfer, USB Tethering, MIDI, PTP, and No Data Transfer. Home screen issue - can't use the full space! Posted: 30 Sep 2020 06:21 AM PDT Hi guys, so I just switched on home screen app suggestions to see what it looked like but didn't get on with it so I've turned it off. Only thing is now the available space for apps on each pane is now a row smaller with a reserved row that shows on all panes, how can I revert back to only having the Google bar at the bottom being persistent? Tried googling but can't for the love of me figure out how to get what I need out... [link] [comments] |

Are there any custom ROMs that give off a more “Linux-y” feel? Posted: 29 Sep 2020 05:22 PM PDT As the title says. What I mean by this is something that still works as a phone, but is more like a desktop distro. Thanks for any help [link] [comments] |
Pixel 4 XL subsystem automatically dismissing Twitter notifications Posted: 30 Sep 2020 09:18 AM PDT I'm having an issue with the Android 11 OS automatically dismissing my Twitter notifications and I haven't been able to fix it. Hoping someone here could help me out. I have a Pixel 4 XL (personal) and a Pixel 4 (work). The Twitter notifications work fine on the Pixel 4. Meanwhile the ones on the Pixel 4 XL will never display but I know that they are there. The reason I can tell that they are being received/pushed to the phone is because if I look at the notification history, I see all my Twitter notifications there under the "Recently dismissed" section. In my notifications settings on my phone for the Twitter app, all notification options are enabled. In the Twitter app itself, Push notifications are all enabled and its settings mirror my (working) Pixel 4 settings. This is driving me crazy. Last night I even factory reset my phone and it still hasn't made a difference. I've tried excluding the Twitter app from battery optimization. Nothing. I even gave Twitter access to unrestricted data. Granted, I did restore all my apps/settings so my guess is there must be some conflicting app that is automatically dismissing these notifications. On my Pixel 4, it is very bare bones. I barely have any apps installed on it. I've contacted Pixel support and they were useless. They passed me to 7 different representatives and in the end told me to contact Twitter. It's not a Twitter issue, it's obviously an Android issue since the phone is actually receiving the notifications. They are just being immediately dismissed/"hidden" by either Android or another app. Any help would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Samsung Galaxy a10e screen issues Posted: 30 Sep 2020 03:13 AM PDT My Galaxy a10e e sustained minor water damage. Immediately after finding the phone, it seemed fine, but I still took precautions. Removing it from its case, drying it with a towel, removed sim/sd tray, and placing it in dry rice for about 10 hours. After that, it seemed fine for a few hours of moderate use, the suddenly, the screen started acting up. Its difficult to describe, and I cant seem to find any useful info online yet. But it seems like every other horizontal line of pixels is either blacked out, or offset several rows upward. Occasionally when the screen if left idle, it will appear normal. But as soon as anything updates it goes screwy. Alot of times its frantic in where it shows the offset lines, making it appear very jittery, especially when scrolling, like browsing Facebook or Reddit. I couldn't find much helpful information elsewhere on the internet, but I tried restarting (several times), booting in safe mode, and tinkering with display and developer options. No luck yet. I've determined that its definitely a hardware issue. So how screwed is my phone? I'm about 70% confident in my ability to physically open the device and attempt hardware repairs, like replacing the lcd. I do have what I believe to be the appropriate tools, and I'm sure theres an ifixit guide that could help. but it's a cheap phone and I'm not sure it's worth the money/ effort. So any suggestions, especially things to try software wise are appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Do heavy games destroy your phone's processor in a short span of time? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 09:09 AM PDT Planning to try out a game, but my device only meets the minimum requirements. Would this be a bad idea to push my device to play this app? [link] [comments] |
