Hey everyone, I'm your new community mod! Please ask questions or make suggestions below! Posted: 31 Jul 2020 05:13 PM PDT I noticed a while ago that the sub was becoming utterly unbearable due to the sheer lack of moderation, spam, illegit posts and lack of helpful content. Hence, I requested the sub from the admins because the other moderators are inactive. I have been added as a mod but they remain in place for the moment. I'd just like to outline how I intend to improve and change the community going forward in order to make it a more helpful and informative environment for everyone involved. New Moderators and ApplicationsI would like to appoint some new mods to aid in maintaining and improving the community. I have already reached out to a handful of active community members to see if they would be interested in these roles. If you think you would like a shot, please send a modmail and I'll review your profile. Please include a short few sentences on why you are interested in the topic, why you'd be a good fit for the role, and if you have any previous moderation experience. Removal of Spam and Unwanted ContentIt's no secret that the sub has been filled with spam and content about fake "Android TVs" and rather dodgy .apk files. I intend to add posting guidelines with clear info about what this sub is for - discussing and providing helpful information about anything that runs the official Android TV operating system. A complete and robust set of rules will be added and these will hopefully not be too strict or too lenient on posts. Obviously user suggestions are welcome. Future GoalsI'd like to look at the success of r/ChromeOS and use it as an example of a goal for this community. It seemingly strikes a good balance and makes it a great place for discussion and learning. Overall the main goal is to improve the community, and that goal will evolve over time. Thanks for reading, and please feel free to leave any suggestions/questions/general comments below! [link] [comments]

Unable to update Prime Video app on my Android TV box to latest vwrsion from playstore. Posted: 01 Aug 2020 07:15 AM PDT So I am using a Smart TV box (ACT4K1007 from Skyworth) provided by my ISP. Its using certified Android TV. In last OS update they included Prime Video but an old version of the app (4.14.2). I can see the latest version in playstore on the box and an update option but when I try to update it, the installation fails with an error without much detail. I then tried to download APK and install separately, then I got to know that the version installed along with OS update is placed in system core location hence unable to update it. I am able to update other pre-installed apps(for ex Netflix) which show up under system apps but not the ones which show up as System Core apps. I tried to uninstall using ADB but it doesnt delete the package without root and cant install newer version without that. I am tryi g to find a way to either uninstall/update the existing package (but unable to find a way to root my device) or may be install a different version by using app clone etc. But couldnt make App Cloner work on Android TV. Any suggestions how do I go about this? Any way to update the app under system core or any app cloner/dual app APK which works for Android TV? Appreciate any help/responses. [link] [comments]
Tv with android tv or Mii box s ? Posted: 01 Aug 2020 01:26 AM PDT Hi, I'm looking for advice on a purchase, I'm hesitating between buying a 4k Tv with built-in AndroidTv (probably the Sony KD49XG80) or buying a cheaper Tv (Sony KD49XG70) without AndroidTv with a Mii Box S. I will be using it for Netflix and Hulu with NordVPN to unlock certain regions, so I was wondering what the least buggy option would be? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]

How to browse the TV Play Store for compatible apps Posted: 31 Jul 2020 08:19 PM PDT I don't currently own an Android TV box, but considering getting one. From my understanding, the play store for android tv is curated and only has compatible apps. However, I cant find a way to browse this "TV Play Store". https://play.google.com has no way to sort by Android TV compatible apps. I can search for "Android TV" but I get mixed results. Is there any way for me to browse for android tv compatible apps before I make my purchase? [link] [comments]

HDMI ARC making Soundbar System unresponsive Posted: 31 Jul 2020 08:39 PM PDT I recently bought a JBL 5.1 soundbar system and when I am connecting it to TV through HDMI ARC port, the system becomes unresponsive. No button or remote works nor sound output. The same setup is working with my other TV of same brand. I am confused how a HDMI connection can cause this. Could it be due to any leakage current or TV's port issue. I used FireStick from the same HDMI port of TV and it's working, so not sure what could be the reason. [link] [comments]
Able to use newly released Fire TV plain HBO app (7/31/20) on Android TV? Posted: 31 Jul 2020 08:02 PM PDT Is there a means to get the newly released (7/31/20) Fire TV / OS HBO app APK? This release is for the folks who subscribe to HBO through Amazon Prime Video. I'm not interested in HBO Max nor switching to another service, I just want the plain ol' / standalone HBO app on my Android TV devices. HBO Now -> HBO [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Jul 2020 07:34 PM PDT What's the best way to watch MSNBC Live on Android TV? In the past I've used FitzyTV, but that no longer works. It doesn't have an app like AppleTV. Install Chrome and visit the web page? [link] [comments]
Philips android Tv turning on with chromecast Posted: 31 Jul 2020 06:01 PM PDT So basically the title is not completely true. The problem is I would like to stream Youtube on the tv from my phone without using the remote to start the tv. But chromecast isnt even shown when the tv is off. Is there a way that I can do it like with my normal chromecast where it starts up the tv? [link] [comments]
