| Does newer versions of Android consume more battery and CPU than older ones? Posted: 12 Aug 2020 03:45 AM PDT Let's say I have 3 devices (some 2016 flagship) with same hardware running Android 6, 8 and 10 and the official support for device has ended at 6. If through other measures I update to other listed Android versions, would I see improvement in overall battery consumption and better performance in games like PUBG or would that have the opposite effect? I've seen a lot of people saying their device doesn't last as long after their update to newer Android version. Is it really the case? Is there any comparison of Android versions that I can see because I couldn't find any. I am really curious about this. I have one Samsung galaxy note 4 and one S7 edge, both top out at Android 6 and 8 respectively. I want PUBG to run smoothly on them and was thinking of rooting and updating them to Android 10 thanks to LineageOS. Is this a good move? [link] [comments] |

| How Can i find out which phones are most popular? Posted: 12 Aug 2020 11:53 AM PDT I'm a web developer who uses an iPhone in my personal life. I'd like to purchase an Android phone to test the websites I work on on Android but I can't afford a paid testing platform like BrowserStack and I don't entirely trust the Chrome Device Toolbar to see what my sites look like on various mobile devices. I'd like to have at least one real Android device for testing. Are there any webpages that will show me what the current most popular Android phone is in the United States? I don't want review sites that tell you which phones they think are the best. I want to know which Android phones have the greatest sales in the U.S. [link] [comments] |
| Mobile hotspot tethering - can you use it using wifi network INSTEAD of mobile phone data? Posted: 12 Aug 2020 12:23 PM PDT I have a Pixel 3a. I'm on the Sprint network, and I have a data plan that includes a good amount of data for mobile hotspot usage. For the past few days I've had trouble with my home internet (xfinity wifi) on my laptop and my girlfriend's laptop. Our modem/router is capable of putting out EITHER 2.4ghz wifi network OR 5ghz wifi network, not both at the same time. I recently tried switching the wifi network from the modem/router to 5ghz instead of 2.4ghz since I heard that 2.4ghz tends to have a lot of local interference, and we live in an apartment complex wiht a ton of wifi networks. Luckily for me, it worked! My computer instantly started seeing internet speeds doubled. Unfortunately, my girlfriend immediately lost internet, because her laptop is not capable of receiving 5ghz internet. Before you suggest it, I have already ordered her a USB adapter that will allow her to connect to 5ghz internet. But it won't arrive for a few more days, so I wanted to test something out. I turned on the mobile hotspot feature on my android phone, set up an internet network, and set it to be at 2.4ghz and connected my girlfriend's computer to it. Her internet speeds on the wifi hotspot from my phone are the same as they were when she was on our home wifi network (on speedtest.net it says she is connected to Xfinity, not Sprint). The important thing to note here is that I turned my mobile (Sprint) data OFF! The only internet my phone is receiving right now should be through the wifi it's connected to. And she still has wifi connection through the hotspot made from my phone, still the same speed. But when I tried to do the same thing on her phone (because her internet speeds slow down when my phone is away from her computer and I wanted to use my phone for other stuff), it doesn't work - because I can't turn the data off on her phone AND have a wifi hotspot going at the same time (she has the Pixel 2XL). Notably, we have different phone plans, and hers does not include mobile hotspot data. Is my phone still somehow using Sprint data even while having it turned off on my own phone? Or is the source of the data she's receiving from the wifi network the phone is connected to? I thought that was impossible. What's going on? [link] [comments] |
| Pop-up ads on OnePlus 3T (Oxygen OS 9.0.6) Posted: 12 Aug 2020 12:22 PM PDT I've been getting random pop up ads on my OnePlus 3T. They don't seem to be associated with any app. They will override whatever app I am using at the time and redirect to a scam looking webpage. How can I get rid of these annoying pop up ads???? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
| Huge . fuse_hidden File In SD Card? Posted: 12 Aug 2020 12:17 PM PDT Hello everyone! I just noticed there is an almost 3 GB file named ".fuse_hidden000004e000000001" in the root of my SD card. I can use all space, so I'd love to get rid of it. Does anyone know how that file got there, why it is there, if it goes away automatically and if it's safe to delete manually? Thanks for reading my question! 😊 [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 12 Aug 2020 12:05 PM PDT Always been an iOS user, so I apologize if I don't get this terminology right.) Three years ago, I did six months of work overseas, and was cautioned against taking my iPhone with me. Instead, my company provided me with an unlocked google pixel, unfortunately I do not remember which model it was. Using the pixel, I found that I could long-press on nearly any web-video, and given the ability to save the video to the phone's memory. This was incredibly helpful professionally, and I still use many of the videos I downloaded daily, as part of my gig. I can't find an easy way to do this on my iPhone, and so I want to buy an Android device, ideally a small tablet, solely so I can gain this ability. Can every Android device do this? I haven't used Android in several years, is this functionality still present? Can devices of any manufacturer do this, or is it just google hardware? Does this feature have a name? Cheers! | Noob trying to root android 10 Posted: 12 Aug 2020 11:49 AM PDT So this is my first time attempting to root an android(galaxy s10) on my own and have a few questions:
In closing, I own the s10, it is unlocked and am not concerned with voiding a warranty. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

| Thinking of switching from Pixel 3 to Z Flip 5G Posted: 12 Aug 2020 11:15 AM PDT Just wanted to hear what some people might see as the pros and cons. I'm still pretty new to the android community only had my Pixel 3 for about a year and a half now and I love it! I switched over from a the first gen iPhone se, mostly cause I wanted to get a better camera and have more customizability. The reason why I want to switch to the Z flip is because I really like the idea of the phone conceptually and how new the tech going into it is. Any comments are appreciated! For context I should be able to trade in my current phone and get a decent discount on the Z flip if I go for it now as opposed to later on when the 3 is considered two generations behind. | Are these tiny minor scratches normal? Posted: 12 Aug 2020 10:56 AM PDT I don't really use screen protectors and I just wanted to ask, I have these scratches that you can't really see unless you put light on it and look carefully. These scratches don't appear when the screen is on. I don't really know where they're coming from since I'm very careful with my phone. Do you guys also have these super tiny scratches? | Advice about a Google Payments account being closed. Posted: 12 Aug 2020 10:52 AM PDT So sometimes in March my google account got hacked and i unfortunately had my debit card saved in there, which the attacked used to buy something about 350$ in value from a completely fake app called valley blocks, which has only stolen photos and a completely copy pasted ToS and is an obvious scam. Following this i tried to get a refund from Google, they did not budge a bit in saying that it was my friends or family that did it, and no one has gained unauthorised acces to my account (complete BS, it literally showed up on my profile that there was a login on my account from a new device new to me, from the US, where i don't live). After that, i went to my bank and they where able to chargeback the money which thankfully i got back, but now trying to make a purchase on Google Play i found out that my Payments Account is closed, i spent several hours today just trying to get in contact with Google (i found some weird chat option on their support site) just to be told that they again that they didn't authorise the chargeback and they want it reverse or i'll be banned from Payments forever, with no more options to dispute or show any of the proof i have that the purchase was unauthorized and it was fair to get a chargeback. I live in Romania, theres no phone line for google support here from what i can tell, aswell as no paypal/gift card options for google so as things are going it looks like im gonna pay an extra price of being hacked and be banned from buying anything from google ever again ( the email mentioned that if i try to make new accounts they will also have their Payments accounts closed) Any advice with this would be greatly appreciated, i have no ideas left (Sorry if this is the wrong subreddit/format to ask for help) [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 12 Aug 2020 12:59 PM PDT Hi everyone. I have been using Google Music for some years now and appreciated the app for it's syncing capabilities. Giving the news of it going away, what is everyone using to sync their music to their phones? I buy my music from different sources like Amazon, etc and still would like to sync without needing to plug the phone to a PC if I don't have to. I have a Note 10 Ultra for reference. I'm not too familiar with YouTube music but I don't fancy having to watch ads or anything else for that matter for music I already own if that is even a feature. Appreciate the help. | LG K51 fingerprint reader not waking up phone anymore. Posted: 12 Aug 2020 12:58 PM PDT I just recently purchased an LG K51. I had it set up so that I could wake up and unlock the phone using my fingerprint. About 3 weeks ago, however, this functionality stopped. Now I need to press the power button, wait a heartbeat, then press it again in order to wake up the phone and see my lock screen. Only then will the fingerprint reader unlock the phone. I was wondering if there was something in the settings I messed up that caused this. As a side note, the auto brightness feature is also not working on the phone. These two issues occurred almost simultaneously. [link] [comments] |

| Snapchat vibrates and goes to camera mode Posted: 12 Aug 2020 12:39 PM PDT Hey, so sometimes when I'm chatting/sending Snapchat my phone vibrates and Snapchat goes to the camera tab. It's pure random, sometimes it happens a lot and sometimes never. I can be in the midst of a conversation on snap, then my phone vibrates and goes to the camera page in Snapchat. Which makes it really hard to answer snaps and chats. I have a OnePlus 7 pro, anyone else experienced this problem or know how to fix it? [link] [comments] |

| Google play services is draining my battery and I can't seem to do anything about it Posted: 12 Aug 2020 10:35 AM PDT I've noticed over the last few days, my battery is draining quicker than usual, and there's been a few times my phone has been gotten hot to touch. I had a quick look at which apps are running and was surprised to see Google play services was at the top? There's no way to restrict background usage of this, or even stop the app. Here's screenshots of it https://imgur.com/a/XaY1u4S My phone is a Sony Xperia 1, and runs perfectly with everything else, haven't had any problems with it at all. Any ideas/suggestions for this? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 12 Aug 2020 10:32 AM PDT Is there a way to Reset it or change it? I have no clue what it could possibly be as I never even added one. Also does this mean I can't use my sim in another phone? I'm using a Samsung Galaxy A50 running Android 10 for some Background. [link] [comments] |
| Can a touchscreen portable monitor replace a tablet? Posted: 12 Aug 2020 06:38 AM PDT I want to play some Google Play Store games on a larger screen portable monitor by connecting my phone and give my finger input on the larger screen. | Pixel 4 Screen Dead - Access Storage Posted: 12 Aug 2020 09:53 AM PDT Hey everyone - I have a P4 that has a dead screen and apparently motherboard per UbreakIFix. I think the device is intact as it reboots and seems to still connect to wifi and my Bluetooth keyboard. I have not figured out how to get access to the storage - I want to pull my pictures off. They were backed up to Google One but not at full res so that is a bummer. Is there any way for me to gain access to the storage without going to "Connection preferences > file transfer" over USB?
