| (PSA) If half your apps are suddenly crashing repeatedly, disable Google Chrome Posted: 22 Mar 2021 05:03 PM PDT Like you, I freaked out when well over half my apps started crashing on startup, and my first thought was this sub (after checking for malicious apps and restarting twice, of course). The common solution seems to be disabling, uninstalling, or removing updates for "Android System WebView," but my phone (Galaxy S9, Android 8) doesn't show this in Play Store or Settings, and you can't uninstall an app/system feature that you seemingly don't have (or is hidden). Lots of people are reporting that their older phones/Android versions don't have WebView as well. Just one person in a crossposted thread suggested disabling Chrome. Out of options, I tried it, and sure enough all of my apps are suddenly working again. I can't uninstall it without root, but I could uninstall the updates, that was unnecessary for me but if simply disabling doesn't work for you, that's worth a shot. | Some of my apps crash when I open them. Posted: 23 Mar 2021 03:10 AM PDT Some of my apps, IMDb, Deezer, Relay for Reddit, Nice Lock and some others crash after I open them. The problem started after I updated Device Care app by Samsung. I don't know what is the problem exactly. Has this ever hhappened to you? How to fix the problem? Edit: I restarted the phone, cleared the data of IMDb app and the problem is still there. Edit 2: After I open an app, it starts behaving the same of the apps I said. I just opened Boost for Reddit to edit this post and I can no longer open it. | Backing up before rooting, what are my options? Posted: 23 Mar 2021 02:40 AM PDT HI all, I'd like to ditch MiUI and flash something like EvolutionX and ensure the ownership on my phone. If I got it right, rooting my phone is going to wipe the data from my device. I looked at my options to backup my phone, but it appears that the best options are available only after rooting the device. What can I do to backup most of it with a vanilla MiUI 12 Xiaomi? My contacts, calendars, tasks, photos are already synced via WebDAV or Nextcloud, so I'm mainly thinking about apps data, settings, etc. Thank you kindly. [link] [comments] |
| I want to change my Primary Google Account Posted: 23 Mar 2021 08:50 AM PDT I wish to change my Primary Google Account as the current gmail address is a portmanteau using my dead name, however I don't want hard reset as I would lose my play store app history, and various settings and app data. Is there a way make a new Gmail Account and either transfer the data to the new account or make the old account a sub account? Update: Got a moment to just look up my inquiry on the internet. | Will my phone automatically do a backup without getting past the lockscreen? Posted: 23 Mar 2021 12:45 PM PDT I broke my phone screen 3 months ago and I had it turned off ever since. I had it automatically backing up to my google account every 24 hours prior to turning it off but since it's been more than 57 days (not sure why google chose 57 days for this threshold), my backup on google drive had been deleted. I've turned my phone back on but I cant unlock it since my screen is broken. It is still connected to my wifi so is there a chance that it'll automatically backup my files to my google drive again without me having to somehow getting through the lockscreen? | Way to fix the app crashing problem caused by recent Google Webview event for old Samsumg phone Posted: 23 Mar 2021 01:54 AM PDT UPDATE: For everyone who's suffering from this, google has released a fix, webview is related to the Google chrome app, update your Google chrome to the latest version on play store and it should be okay Up until just this morning I've been noticing some of the default apps like gmail, samsung email app, google play service on my phone stopped working with a notification popped up, along with all wallet and banking apps on my phone, all will crash upon start up. I can't make any payment and my phone is literally a brick now. | Wiping cache is no longer a thing on some androids? Posted: 23 Mar 2021 08:38 AM PDT Running Moto X4. I'm used to the whole wiping cache when things go goofy. So I think I'm going nuts here because I'm in recovery mode and no cache wipe. From the article: "Likewise, the /recovery partition has become largely redundant. Historically, the stock recovery image was used to install OTA packages, perform factory resets, and wipe the /cache partition. Installing OTAs is now handled by the OS, and there's no need to wipe the /cache partition anymore, so the /recovery partition has been removed, as well." My recovery screen looks just like the screenshot, no cache there. So would it be correct to say that the cache should no longer be an issue on phones that lack the ability to wipe the cache? | Apps/options that reduce touchscreen sensitivity? Posted: 23 Mar 2021 12:13 PM PDT This may be a long shot, but I use a Galaxy Tab Active pro for outdoor work. It generally works great, but I anticipate using it in a rainier climate more often this year. In the past when it rains it becomes more difficult with the ghost touches etc (obviously). My question is: are there any apps or advanced settings that can make a touchscreen LESS Sensitive? It has an S-pen, so I envision something that can decrease sensitivity so that firm pen touches register while moisture has less of an affect, or at least doesn't cause as much difficulty. I believe some more advanced rugged tablets (Mesa3?) have touchscreen profiles that can be adjusted, but up until now it hasn't made sense to go for that expensive of a device. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 23 Mar 2021 12:09 PM PDT Every time he attempt to make a call to anyone, he gets a voicemail saying his Sprint account needs funds. However, he checked his account, and it's paid up to date. Furthermore, he's able to access mobile data on his phone, and I'm able to call him and send/receive texts from him. It's likely that it's some kind of ransomware, but I haven't seen this before. A few days ago problens started with it like I can't type into google without the phone taking me directly to my home screen and the same thing happens when i click on links or see an ad in Snapchat. | Replacement for hangouts dialer (Canada)? Posted: 23 Mar 2021 12:02 PM PDT Like many people, I use hangouts dialer to make long distance phone calls. Since hangouts is being killed off (RIP), what's the alternative? Google Voice can be used if verified with a US number, I believe you also need a US IP to make calls, so that's a possibility if I get VPN, but I'm hoping there's another decent (and free) app that can replace dialer. | Aukey Fit app is draining my battery Posted: 23 Mar 2021 11:40 AM PDT I got a cheap Aukey smartwatch just for screening calls/messages when I'm at work and can't get my phone out every time it rings but the Aukey Fit app that connects to it is absolutely killing my battery. Normal for a smartwatch app + my phone? Can I keep it from doing this during hours I don't need to use the watch? Would a different watch + app still do this? | Apps Force Closing after Latest Update Posted: 23 Mar 2021 10:54 AM PDT Is anyone else out there having an issue where you cannot open some apps after the latestest update? The apps that I cannot open are random and they sometimes crash mid use. Started off just 1 app. Now it's multiple I cannot open and it force closes and goes to my home page. | How do I fix my lock screen wallpaper Posted: 23 Mar 2021 10:34 AM PDT So Friday night I went to bed and had wall paper the same as my home screen at some point the phone ended up in the bed (shut off alarm?). I got up and now on the lock screen (phone not actually locked) have a blue/black moving blob wallpaper and the clock is different, the battery charge ring is now upside down from what it was (See first photo) https://imgur.com/a/UzQcP6D the home screen is the same (second photo) Ive tried changing the wall paper and no luck also my emg contact info that was on the screen is now grayed out in settings, can't get that to work either. List of apps that crash: Google app (not chrome, the Google search app) BBC iPlayer - crashes even when it isn't open Gmail app Airline manager 4 (but strangely not airline manager 3) An app or system called "Three net___" only appeared for a second so couldn't get the full name but seen as my phone has the 3 bootloader, I'm assuming this is the cause of the problem. Posted: 23 Mar 2021 09:35 AM PDT My main phone broke, so I've been using a phone with 0 functionality (A2 Core). I'm desperately looking for a step-by-step guide to flashing my phone and changing this godforsaken OS. Also, is there anything better than the AOSP Android 10? The A2 Core is a 1GB RAM phone, so I'm looking for an OS with the ability to do simple things (like access notification settings) while still keeping the speed of 8.1 Go.
