/r/android reviews: Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco line Posted: 03 Jun 2020 10:30 AM PDT Device reviews are everywhere these days. From big name technology websites to lesser known blogs, and to the rising stars on YouTube. You can find hours upon hours of review content on most any well-known device out there. However a lot of these places do not focus on long term usage and fail to mention how devices hold up over the long term. Additionally for those of you who like to hear about devices from actual users, it's hard to find a good place with reviews that aren't scattered all over the place. This thread is where you, the /r/android community, can share your experiences with your device. Hopefully users who read this thread can gain some valuable insight into a device they're researching to see if they want to buy it. This week we are focusing on the Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco line of devices. Xiaomi are best known for making affordable phones although they have shown they can come up with interesting designs like the original Mix and the rest of the Mix series phones. Interestingly their software skin MIUI was their first product and was a popular custom ROM when it initially debuted. Redmi and Poco are sub brands staying true to Xiaomi's older mantra of packing some of the best specs at any particular price point allowing Xiaomi to increase the prices on their Mi series phones. All three brands are known to be developer friendly as they allow people to unlock the bootloader without voiding their warranty. We decided to combine these three brands into one thread due to several reasons. Firstly all of them run MIUI. Secondly a phone from one brand might be renamed in another market. For example the Redmi K20/K20 Pro and the Mi 9T/Mi 9T Pro. Both are visually identical and have the exact same internal components, however the Mi 9T/Mi 9T Pro are the international variants of the K20/K20 Pro with support for more LTE bands. The Redmi K30 Pro and the Poco F2 Pro are another example of this practice. Past threads: Rules: Please leave a top comment only if you own a Xiaomi, Redmi or Poco device running the Android operating system. Anyone in violation of this rule will have their comment removed. Any feedback should be directed to modmail. 1) Please specify if the device was purchased yourself or obtained from the company or a third party as a review device or a gift. 2) What device do/did you own? 3) What were your initial impressions of the device? 4) How did your impressions change over time? If you currently own the device, how do you feel about it now? 5) Feel free to talk about anything else you would like (eg. sensors, software, customizability, strength of the custom ROM scene, etc.). Remember, reviews are personal, so emphasize the things you feel are important! If you love or hate something about your device, let it be known! [link] [comments]

For anyone having issues with DualShock 4 on custom roms: Posted: 03 Jun 2020 05:19 PM PDT LineageOS 17 supports the Dualshock 4 controller and from my testing so far it works great! I spent countless hours trying other ROMs but gave up as none supported the DualShock 4 besides MIUI. So anyone with this problem: tries and see if an official lineage os build is available for your device and flash that. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jun 2020 08:05 PM PDT So I recently remembered that Nokia exists and they released the 9 Pureview last year. The camera had problems due to the complex system Nokia was trying to use but now this year it seems Nokia's going to go with a more standard data intake for its 5-camera setup. The camera app was also laggy. This year, the 9.3 Pureview is expected to have the 865 and X55 5G modem, 6 and 8gb of LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.0 storage, and an under-the-display selfie camera. Now, of course, the selfie camera will need to be executed properly, along with the computational software for the rear cameras even if they're using Zeiss optics. Knowing that the 9.3 Pureview will be pure Android aside from the camera app, I can't help but feel the 9.3 Pureview will be what the Pixel 5 should be. Whether or not the Pixel 5 is more competitive in price compared to the 9.3 Pureview, one can't argue that Nokia is not making any compromises unlike Google, and Google should be the company that shouldn't have to. At first, I didn't care if Google wasn't going the flagship route this year (since they're preparing to launch the Pixel 6 with their own SoC), but this is kind of ridiculous that Nokia could meet the flagship specs. What do you guys think? [link] [comments]
Hope for best Gaming phone in the future. Posted: 04 Jun 2020 02:08 AM PDT Hello everyone, it has recently come to my attention that Qualcomm and ARM together have made a new SoC architecture that is intended to maximize performance instead of power efficiency. So I have come here to post my personal opinion on what I think the "ultimate gaming" Android smartphone would look like. Qualcomm: Display: 144hz AMOLED 1440p screen. (Hopefully) Snapdragon 875 CPU: x3 ARM Cortex X1, 1x A78 clocked to 3.2GHz. 4x A55 clocked at 1.9GHz. RAM: 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM (minimum). GPU: Adreno 685 (similar to SQ1 SoC) with new added features. 1TB (minimum) storage space. Battery: 6800mah (minimum) capacity. Now it comes down to heat dissipation and how they could keep this phone cool and not ovetheat. Maybe a built in fan with exhaust port or even a multi-layered liquid cooling tube? Are these specs just wishful thinking or could this actually be possible in the upcoming Snapdragon 875? Your opinions are most welcome. [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Jun 2020 12:00 AM PDT My hopes aren't high for this one because it would only be useful for a few phones. I'm putting it out here anyway just in case dual-tone flashes become popular in the future. [link] [comments]
"Battery health". Is that something that really matters, and if so is Android ever gonna get it? Posted: 03 Jun 2020 05:07 AM PDT Hello! I feel like I have a fairly decent understanding of how batteries work and how they can be degraded over time, but I've seen a couple of iPhone-using friends claim that their phones are basically unusable once they hit 80-89% "battery health" (even if they disable throttling). To me, this seems like nonsense. You should be able to use your phone reasonably well even past the 50% or 40% mark. Sure, it won't hold its charge as long, but it should still run just fine, right? Is this a real problem or a dodgy business practice by Apple? If it's real, are there plans for Android/Oxygen to get this feature soon? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jun 2020 02:04 AM PDT (just for fun) So... What if there's a sensor behind the screen that can detect the position and movement of your right/left thumb while using your phone or tablet in one hand? If you are trying to reach the upper portion of the screen using your thumb - stretching it and wiggling it a little bit, the screen will detect your movement and will automatically move the UI down to exactly where your thumb can reach. You can also do this in landscape mode, if you are using your right thumb and you are trying to reach the far left part of the screen, the UI will move to the right so you can tap whatever you are reaching. (ex. using the camera app in landscape and you are reaching the far left part of the screen to tap some camera settings) After tapping, the UI will bounce back to normal. Sorry English is not my native language, I hope you guys understand it. [link] [comments]
