Get a smartwatch now? Or wait? (Pixel 4)

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 08:46 AM PDT

I'm a guy that loves tech and I usually want the best stuff.
But I'm not super rich so I always do a lot of research.
I never had a smartwatch but now my really good Casio watch stopped working.
I think the best possible smartwatch to get right now is the Fossil Gen 5, since it has wearOS and is therefore most compatible with my Pixel 4.
But one thing always keeps me from buying one: The rumours about a Pixel Watch.
It was supposed to come for 2 years now.
But there's no trace of it yet.
Do you think it will come soon? Should I wait? Or should I go for the Fossil?
I would really regret getting it if the Pixel Watch came out this year.

    Android Controller Support

    Posted: 14 Apr 2020 09:27 PM PDT

    Hello!

I have a Samsung Galaxy S10e (I love this phone), running Android 10.

I am connecting my Xbox controller to it (via cable) and my phone is not recognizing the trigger buttons (LT and RT). All other buttons are recognized except those two.

I tested my controller on my PC, and they worked there. So I know the controller is fine.

Is there anything I can do to remedy this?

    All responses are appreciated!

Solution needed! Screen broken but still functioning .

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 03:23 AM PDT

Last week my Huawei P30's screen suddenly broke down without any reason. It still functioning inside, when got incoming call it is ringing and vibrating, i still able to touch and accept the call.
It is still under warranty but currently my country is under movement control, the service center is not working. I can wait since i have second phone but i wish to see is there any important data need to be back up cause i guess mostly they will format my phone when go for repair.

Any software recommended for me to connect my phone to computer and use it to mirror my phone screen? I can do simply blind touch screen and all the physical buttons are functioning.

Is there a reason why Android doesn't have a universal "Undo"?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 12:04 PM PDT

I made the switch to Android about a year and a half ago (Note 9) from iOS. I largely love Android and see no reason to go back to iOS, but one thing has really stuck out to me. Why is there no undo function? I asked if there was one back when I got the phone and the universal response was "no". So why not and is there a plan for one in an upcoming update? Isn't this something that seems like a nobrainer that EVERYONE should be asking for? If it isn't in the foreseeable future, what reason would Google have to keep omitting it?

My Google keyboard doesn't seem very smart

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 11:51 AM PDT

I have two Androids, LG and another

Had to install Google keyboard on the other one and that seems to understand my typing but the LG with the Google keyboard built in seems to struggle and makes many mistakes. Thoughts?

I just bought a Google Pixel 3a two days ago. I love it so far, but I've noticed a big problem with the sound. When someone is speaking in a video, or especially on a call/video call, the sound is quiet and muffled for a second before returning to normal. As if the speakers need to "rev up" first.

Is this a software issue or a hardware issue and should I look into returning and replacing for a new one?

Need advice about choosing a phone

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 11:12 AM PDT

    So,

I have a galaxy s10e, and i liked it at first, but now i'm not so satisfied with my experience. My main issues are:

-Battery life on stock ROM is plain horrible. It was pretty bad before, now i started playing some gwent on mobile and i sometimes have to charge the phone up to three times a day. I'm not using AOD.

    • Camera on my unit is horrible. It doesn't want to autofocus, i'm sure it's a manufacturing error or something, but i have to manually focus every time i'm taking a picture, and i have to do it a few times until it sticks. Obviously i can't take videos because of this.

As i'm not using my phone for tasks that require that much power, i think that maybe i'd be up for some mid range phone with a beefier battery and camera. The phones i'm looking at right now are:

Realme X2 - Battery sounds nice, with 4000mAh and four firckin' cameras.

Xiaomi Mi9T - also 4000mAh, and three cameras, also sounds good.

They both have snapdragon 730, with realme having 730G.

Realme is much cheaper, i can get it for 197€ new. Xiaomi is 252€.

Now, my question is, did someone have experiences with both s10e and one of these phones?

Also my concern is custom ROM development, i see mi9t has some, also realme has lineage builds but not posted on XDA so i cannot read user feedback or anything..

    Please share your thoughts/advice.

    EDIT:

To give more context, my general usage is mostly youtube, rarely over 1h a day, and some instagram and as of now, two rounds of gwent. that's about it.

What's the most minimal PDF reader for Android?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 10:11 AM PDT

I was using MuPDF mini (only 19MB install size, minimal UI) until the time my device got updated to Android 10. Now, even after granting Storage permissions, it says [permission denied] on opening the app.

Their GitHub does not allow opening issues, and the last commit was 2 months ago. Is it abandonware?

Can someone suggest an ultra-light minimal PDF reader for Android? Thanks!

Pop up shazam gone on android?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 09:10 AM PDT

Used to have the pop-up view setting enabled on Shazam a while back where you could press the bar in the notifications panel to detect a currently playing song using Shazam.

For a few months now the pop up view setting has disappeared from the shazam settings for me and the option to do it is no longer there in my notifications panel. I've checked my main device settings and I still have pop out view enabled for the shazam app so I'm not sure why it's gone.

Would appreciate any help/answers, thanks in advance

Why is android more popular than iOS?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 09:07 AM PDT

10 years ago, iOS was the most used phone OS among mobile users, in second place was not Android but Nokia's Symbian OS. Fast forward 10 years later, symbian OS no longer exists and 77% of mobile users are on android while iOS is a very distant second at 21.52%. Is this because android is more affordable? Or is it because people just prefer it to iOS? I used android back in 2012-2013 but it was buggy so I switched to iPhone. I just got an s20 and I noticed that android is alot less buggy and works more like an iPhone does.

Internet searched solutions look obsolete as the referenced apps are no longer available or require rooting; which is impossible for U.S. Note 9 models.

(Help) Deleted AOD GIFs reappearing as lock screen wallpaper

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 04:12 AM PDT

I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ running Android 10. A few months ago, I tried using a GIF image as an Always On Display image, but I didn't like it so I removed it and deleted it from the gallery as well. But since then, whenever I install a software update, the GIF pops up again but as a lock screen wallpaper instead of an AOD. It remains until I switch off the screen and turn it on again, after which the GIF pauses and then the wallpaper switches back to the Dynamic Lock Screen wallpaper service that I use. Could it be that the GIF is still hidden somewhere in the phone's memory? Please let me know if there is a fix for this as it is really annoying.

How do I get rid of the translucent status bar and keyboard overlay?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 06:30 AM PDT

It's particularly noticeable when watching videos. It doesn't show up in screnshots. No matter what's on my screen, you can see a faint overlay of the keyboard and status bar. How can I get rid of this? Google Pixel 1.

    Powershade crash

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 06:26 AM PDT

Recently, I wanted to make my phone ( OnePlus 6T ) to look like a Google Pixel ( launcher, notification panel, etc ). So I've downloaded Powershade and the notification panel works, but whenever i want to go into the settings for customising, it crashes. I've given it all the permissions it told me to. And another thing is the brightness slider, if I slide it up to max, the brightness only goes up to half in system settings. Any idea on how to fix?
