Can't screenshot Netflix but I used to be able to last year.

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:53 AM PDT

I've seen people weren't even able to screenshot on Netflix dated back to 2016, but I was able to on my previous up to at least early 2019 from what I remember. I had an S7 Edge, now have a S9, not sure if it's the phone or an old version of Netflix that allows you to screenshot.

Can someone recommend an Android podcast app which supports rule-based "Smart play" (read: the ability for me to set it to automatically play podcasts in a specific order according to rules I set up) other than the great but old BeyondPod app which is currently falling apart at the seams?

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 05:12 AM PDT

To elaborate from the title a bit: In BeyondPod, which I currently use, I can set up "Smartplay" rules like this:

    1. First, play TWO episodes of This Week in Google, starting at the oldest one I haven't already heard.
    2. Then, play the ONE oldest episodes of Command Line Heroes that I haven't already heard.
    3. Then, play ONE episode of The Magnus Archives.

    etc...

    • Additionally, when an episode is finished, automatically delete it.
    • Download new episodes at 06:30 every morning, and reorganize the current Smartplay playlist with the new content downloaded, but if I'm in the middle of an episode, leave that at the top of the playlist

This sort of setup is great. I don't ever have to worry about what I want to listen to, I just tap on BeyondPod's "Start Smartplay" widget on my home screen or lock screen, and it starts playing what I want to hear without me having to manually select an episode. When the episode is done, it's automatically deleted and the next one based on the rules above is started - which is fantastic if I'm driving or biking, so I don't have to fiddle around with the phone to start the next episode.

I've seen all the lists of "25 great podcast apps for Android" etc, but none of them seem to mention a feature such as this one.

So if BeyondPod is so great, why am I looking for something else? Well, BeyondPod hasn't been updated in 18 months, and I suspect that it may be the reason why my phone has been slowing down lately (as some recent reviews of the app say).

A paid app is fine. I'd easly pay 10 USD for a good podcast app I'd use several hours a day, every day.

Android 9 Camera Resolutions too high

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:33 AM PDT

My default camera app only allows 3 photo resolutions in the settings (4:3 8MP, 16:9 6MP, and 1:1 6MP). I am tired of hooking up my phone to my computer and having to reduce the 3MB+ file size images in MS Paint in order to send them over MMS. Is there a way to get lower resolutions on the default camera app? If not, how do I set an alternate camera app to open when I double-click the home button? This is the only reason I still use the default camera app- because I like being able to simply double-click the home button to open it. Thanks.

Sound quality captured by camera is way worse than by a voice recording app

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 06:53 PM PDT

Tried finding a solution to this specific problem but I couldn't, don't know if I searched correctly though.

Basically the sound quality is way worse on the videos that I film than when I record just the sound through a voice recording app, I have no clue why, I tried filming through the front and back camera to see if the result was gonna be different, but it wasn't, the quality was equally shitty. It sounds blurry and compressed compares to the voice recordings, which are waaaay clearer, but a bit low in volume.

Don't know if it's relevant, but I'm recording myself playing some songs in acoustic guitar.

EDIT: my phone is an Moto G5s plus

Spotify app on new phone not working.

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:56 AM PDT

So I recently acquired a new Sony xperia 1. I installed spotify on it, as it is my preferred streaming service, however when I try to login the app just crashes. I know my username and password are correct as they work on other devices. I have tried uninstalling, clearing the cache, removing all data from the device and SD (which came from my previous device). The version installed is 8.5.54.869 from the google play store. This is a brand new phone just out of the box and is running android version 10. If anyone has any ideas or solutions please get in touch.

    Bluetooth Headset switching to Handset

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 11:38 AM PDT

I have a Pixel 3XL and a Plantronics Legend Bluetooth Headset.

The phone will switch back and forth between the headset and the handset. It works for months at a time, and then the issue will happen frequently for a couple days.

I have had this issue before on other headsets and other phones, so maybe it's an ID10T or PEBKAC error. Maybe solar flares?

It drives me nuts on calls because it works just enough to make me confident to switch back to the headset and then it goes nuts in the middle of a conference call.

Googling the issue reveals similar problems going back to 2010, but I can't find anything recent or directly relevant.

I have tried taking off the cover, moving the phone away from me on my desk, facing the phone down on my desk, rebooting, ensuring the headset and phone are charged.

Have any of you folks experienced this? Did you get it resolved?

    Redmi K20 or Poco X2?

Which should make a better purchase? Redmi K20 or Poco X2? I would have chosen Poco X2 without any hesitation but for the IPS LCD screen.

Anyone know why Solid Explorer takes up to 20s to load an SMB share whereas other apps load SMB instantly? (Galaxy S10e)

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 09:15 AM PDT

I have noticed this since the Android 10 update I think. Samsung My Files now supports SMB so I added my PC to it and can browse all drives instantly over WiFi. If I load up Solid Explorer from cold and try to do the same then it stays on connecting for up to 20 seconds then loads. It always eventually loads just with that delay. If I then close Solid and retry, then it's always instant until the next time I cold load the app after some hours.

This seems to be something to do with how Solid Explorer authenticates and loads SMB shares I would guess but wondered if anyone else has seen the same delay?

I am connecting to a Windows 10 PC over Wireless ac (5GHz).

    APP INDUSTRY ISSUES!

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 09:14 AM PDT

I KNOW ITS A VERY LONG POST BUT I WILL BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU CAN ANSWER AT LEAST ONE MY QUESTIONS 😊

Am a newbie programmer interested in android app development i spent more than 6 months learning and practicing programming languages such as JAVA, PYTHON, HTML, C.

Now that i have successfully completed all cources on these languages i don't see how they are related to the app industry and the apps we use in a day to day manner.

    1) From where do i start & how many codes do i need & where exactly should i put my code ?

    2) Lets say i wanna make an app do my six month experience is enough or is there a period of time i should spent learning & practicing before making my first project ?

    3) Is making an app all depends on coding & programming languages or is there any other things do i need to learn first in order to start ?

    4) Is learning one language enough or many languages participate in android app development ?

    5) Can i make a full app by my own or do i need a team & how many number of programmer is ideal to make one successful app ?

    6) Is my laptop enough for making the app or do i need many laptops & other tools ?

    7) And if i wanna program the app totally by my self do i need money to make the app or my coding knowledge is sufficient & if iam willing to put money on the app what ways can money benifit the app (besides hiring freelancer & affiliate markiters) ? do online platforms & cloud apps need more cash & why ?

    8) And finally if all these questions depends on the type of the app i wanna make how are today's top apps like social media...etc defers from the other millions of apps in the store, is it because the number of people who participate in making them or the level of experience thoes people have, or is it simply money, or they are just good at markiting or are they any other aspects that am not aware of that make the app successful in the terms of programming & so (besides the idea) ?

    9) And if i wanna start an online app buisness do i need to know everything or the buisness aspects (MARKETING / INVESTING / MANAGEMENT) are more important than the tech aspects ( CODING / DESIGNING) So should i spent more time learning or should i just hire freelancer who have well experience & let them handle the work while i concern myself with the buisness issues ?

SORRY FOR SPELLING MISTAKES IF THERE IS ANY...

    THANKS IN ADVANCE 😊

    Hi!

On my android device, when streaming music, the playback notification can show good quality album art for some songs whereas others are very low resolution. This makes no sense as in the app, all the albums have high quality art. This is happening to me on amazon music. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Use a spare phone as a second display for another phone via USB-C?

    Hi there,

I have two Note 8 phones, I want use one of them as a mirrored screen for the other, I can do this via an app like team viewer, but that chews through the battery and it requires internet. Is there a way this can be done over a USB-C connection?

    Samsung s9 call/contact history missing.

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:01 AM PDT

It appears just one contact is missing call/contact history on a samsung S9, is it possible that this was automatically deleted or does this have to be deleted manually? History on all other contacts goes back to when phone was new.

Looking for honest informed answers, not speculation.
