Google has done a FANTASTIC job on allowing a user to use a physical keyboard & mouse with my Android phone! It works so good, with so many keyboard shortcuts!

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 01:27 AM PDT

I'm usually not one to praise google (always been too poor to afford apple, so stuck with Google devices), what with their messed up product lines (Google Meet, Hangouts, Duo, & i'm pretty sure there are at least 5 other video calling apps by Google /s), bloating good apps (Google Maps, laggy with bloat even on flagships)... but enough of that.

I just plugged in the USB receiver of my Logitech keyboard/mouse into my Pocophone using a USB-C OTG adapter, and this mofo starts working BRILLIANTLY right off the bat, no drivers no nothing needed! Typing on the keyboard right now! Some cool shortcuts i've learnt in my 5 mins of experience so far:

    -> Win+? to see shortcuts

-> Press the drop down key or Alt+Tab to switch apps.

-> Windows key opens up Voice Assistant

-> Press tab to cycle through various fields just like on the PC!!

-> Win+N to bring down notifications

    -> Win+backspace to go back

-> Win+B is Chrome, Win+E is GMail, Win+M is Maps, Win+P is Spotify, Win+K is Calendar, Win+C is Contacts, Print Screen is screenshot (duh!), & don't do ctrl alt del, it will reboot your phone without warnings!

-> & i hate using the mouse (even on the PC), but good to know that it works perfectly well on the phone as well just like a normal mouse. :)

Great work Google devs who worked on this, you guys get my massive kudos!

When will screen sizes stop increasing?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 06:13 PM PDT

There was a time when a 4.7" display was considered huge. Then 5.5" followed by 6". Now we're seeing flagship phones with screen sizes of 6.5"-.6.7".

Now, I get that throughout the years, phone bezels have decreased so a 6.5" screen phone now won't be as huge as a 6.5" screen phone built in 2014. But shit, even then the footprint of our phones are quickly getting out of hand. The S20 Ultra is too huge. In my opinion, the S20+ is not much better too. The Mi 10 comes with a 6.7" screen and doesn't have a smaller screen variant. Some manufacturers make phones with smaller screen sizes but more often than not, they're a gimped down version of their flagships. Slower processor, less RAM and storage etc.

Also, manufacturers nowadays make phones longer than wider so that it can be held with one hand but guess what, you still need the other hand to touch the top part of the display or pull the notification shade down.

I have the Galaxy S20 now for several weeks and no, I still have not get used to the larger screen size. Everytime I switch to using my Galaxy S9 I am remembered at how much I love the smaller footprint of the phone.

Phone nowadays are pretty much bezeless, so can we expect manufacturers to stop increasing the screen size in a couple of years?

This is the perfect time for Samsung to release a new Galaxy S10e

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 10:55 AM PDT

With the release of the iPhone SE, I think this is the perfect time for Samsung to release a new version of the S10e. What they should do is copy Apple, as in keep the same body/case of the S10e, and just upgrade the internals. This is will make them save money on the whole process of designing and manufacturing the phone and will allow them to cut on the retail price.

The size of the phone is very similar to the iPhone SE but with better body to screen ratio. It has a way better design in my opinion. Headphone jack, USB-C, fingerprint scanner and wide angle camera. Oh and a flat screen.

    What do you guys think?

With all this talk about how OnePlus has "lost their way" and "lived long enough to see themselves become the villain", I just remembered a hilarious story going back to their "Flagship Killer" Days

You could not make this shit up. TL;DR: OnePlus co-founder claims in a forum post they undercut the competition by not having a profit margin, "planned" a cost breakdown infographic to prove it. Not only did they never deliver, co-founder's forum post mysteriously disappears.

A while ago, a Redditor made a post on /r/OnePlus about doing a university presentation on OnePlus, unable to find an annual report other than the one from 2014. They asked "Do you think OnePlus has something to hide, financially?"

/u/carpe02 a.k.a. Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, chimed in, saying:

This is how we think: We're a product company. Judge us by our products.

It's easy to get caught up in the hype of profitless growth or valuation numbers, but ultimately those things mean nothing to consumers.

    OP of the post replies:

This is a matter of transparency, in my opinion.

Is OnePlus not putting out annual reports because they are afraid the reports will be received badly?

Not giving out information about, for example, financial details stimulates speculation about what the facts are.

    To which I replied:

It sure does. Especially for a company like OnePlus that was built upon profitless growth.

I've always wondered what comprised the $50 difference between the 16 GB and 64 GB OPO.

I linked to a OnePlus Forums post (#9 in the thread) made by Carl saying:

We will not have a profit margin on the OnePlus One, and are planning a cost breakdown infographic to prove this. Stay tuned. :)

Here's where it gets spooky. That post mysteriously disappeared overnight!

I found it hilarious, the end.
