Game Streaming Comparsion (my experience) Posted: 29 Apr 2020 01:19 PM PDT I've fallen behind on upgrading my PC so I figured it's a good time to checkout the various streaming services available. Hopefully save you guys some time and pick one that works for you. This is my own anecdotal experience and you may have a different experience than I did! I mainly wanted to focus on actually playing games because I don't want to spend 1K+ on a brand-new gaming rig. Look, I'm not a super reviewer, nor a tech expert or benchmark wiz, I played games casually and tried out a number of services. You choose how to interpret this. Setup:
TL;DR: Personally, no one service outdoes the others right now. We're still early in the cycle of Cloud gaming, and there isn't one winner despite what fans say.
Google StadiaNote: Using the Pro trial, so it may be different in the future. I think as a starter service, especially with the free Pro right now, it's a good option for anyone to use. Plus with unlimited free tier, it works well for a smaller screen. 4K streaming isn't really around right now (they specifically turned it off) but still at lower resolutions, it looks... ok. Not a bad thing, but was hoping for a bit nicer a view. UI: (8/10) Overall I liked the UI of Stadia; it's clean, consise and smoothly transitions into games. Finding games in the store was a bit tricky but otherwise no issues Gameplay: (7/10) I used Destiny 2 as a general benchmark of how each service worked. Overall with Stadia, things are fairly smooth and reliable. I noticed a few hitches and character jumps here and there but not much to detract from. Controls were smooth and barely noticed latency issues between inputs. Geforce NowNote: Using the Founders edition, though have experience in Free Tier I've been a big fan of Geforce Now and what it wants to accomplish. Loss of games and publishers aside, I tried out Destiny 2 again on this platform to see how it compares. UI: (6/10) NVidia did a great job with laying out the most recent games played, though finding your games is tricky since it doesn't have any sort of matching with your Steam library. Just search for your game (if it's on the list) and "Add To Library". Not the cleanest but it works. Gameplay: (9/10) I personally enjoyed GFN a lot. I still got the occasional latency hits but being able to crank up the graphics settings was amazing. Having guaranteed 1080p with high anti-aliasing looks beautiful on the phone, and I'd say it looks better at time than Stadia did at times. The 60fps didn't look at smooth as Stadia but that could just be user error... Extra Notes: Obviously I've paid for the benefit of jumping ahead of the queue, and that adds a lot to the experience. Free users can expect queues between 20 to 300 in a line depending on the day and time. But the added benefit of playing games I already own is amazing, and I was even able to play some games I didn't expect would work on mobile, Magic: The Gathering Arena, for example. Project xCloudI'm still getting used to this service but was glad to get included in this beta. It's very different from the other services, being Xbox focused, but was a good way to try it out. Having the free library gives a good value to the service, and we don't know if Game Pass will come into effect for the service, so I'll ignore that for value. However, if you're purely an Xbox player, I'll agree this is probably the easiest option to get into compared to the others. UI: (7/10) Overall, this was very similar to NVidia's UI and the experience was very smooth. There are a lot longer wait times starting up, but that could be just traffic on the network for them. I'd compare it equivalent to GFN on a slow day. Gameplay: (8/10) Now, as a preface, this was definitely different from other services, with the focus of only XBox games but I did try out Destiny 2 on the service to see a difference. D2 definitely looked a bit worse, but since it's likely the console version, it makes sense. There was the occasional latency spike while playing but input wasn't much of an issue compared to the other services. Playstation Remote PlayI know, it's not a server streaming service and requires a local Playstation 4 to stream from, but I felt it's a good comparison at least against xCloud. UI: (4/10) It's the same UI from PS4 Home. Not much to expect. However, there is a severe latency issue I was having and I was right next to the PS4. It got worse the farther away I got too, so that's not good to start off with. Gameplay: (6/10) It worked... but could tell it was struggling. Any experience I could have playing on it was remarkably worse with much more latency and input lag. Destiny 2 looked mediocre, and I often would get artifacts. It's playable, but barely. Destiny 2 also is so much slower on PS4 so maybe that made things worse. ShadowSorry to say but I haven't had the chance to try out Shadow Gaming yet. The services I've used so far pretty much cover what I normally play (free to play games and one or two titles) so it's hard to say I should try another right now. But from reviews, it does seem to be a good competitor to other services! Just in case you read down here and forgot up top I liked all the services, and there generally wasn't much different between Stadia, GFN and XCloud. I'd recommend keeping an eye on the services and don't try to lock yourself into one service just yet. However, I'm glad we can finally enjoy some gaming on the go. [link] [comments]
JaffaJam - A publisher with goodwill offering free games. Posted: 29 Apr 2020 02:34 AM PDT I recently stumbled upon a beautifully made platform puzzler called samsara. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marker.samsara) And after being mesmerized by the game, I looked for other games they had published. So the game is developed by a New Zealand based indie developer - Jaffajam. And I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they had made all of their games 100% free (No ads/IAP) for goodwill given the lockdown situation we are in. More details: https://joinourbubble.org/ Honestly I was very impressed with with generosity, and all I could think of was to help spread the word. The games have a very cheery vibe and are probably the most underrated polished games I have ever seen on the Play Store. Hope you find some joy with these. Stay safe out there. ❤️ [link] [comments]
[REQUEST] Open world RPG , casual Posted: 29 Apr 2020 09:58 AM PDT Hey all, I would like to play an open world RPG or Adventure, mostly singleplayer and casual. And not Pay2win, pay2play is okay. I liked the mechanics of Cat Quest, this should be the benchmark, but less for children. Anyone knows the old shandalar? That was a great open world game :) [link] [comments]
I would like to add a couple buttons to my screen that perform keyboard functions. Posted: 29 Apr 2020 06:59 AM PDT I'm playing an old rpg game on my phone, by using the google remote assist app to my computer at home. This game uses a little bit of mouse but mostly keyboard, and only the arrow keys, the space bar, and the comma button. Theres some extra space on each side of my screen where I would like to place buttons binded to space bar and comma on a keyboard. any idea where I can get an app that will let me do this? [REQUEST] Games like Friend-O? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 02:20 PM PDT Friend-o is pretty dead and doesn't even work on besides having 2 buttons work, being able to click on "sign up" or "login". I recently got into a new relationship and remembered how much fun friendo was to find who knew each other better in my past one. Does anyone have any good suggestions? features: -See how well you know the other person. Could be in a similar "quiz" function to friend-o, where you have to answer questions right that the other person had provided an answer for, whether it be a pre-selected answer or self-made. -Paid or Free -Single or Multiplayer (obviously) -Not necessary, but if they have "dirty" questions, it would be nice. Like friend-o had a dirty section up until parents whined about it and got it removed. [link] [comments]
help me find a game that someone promoted on this sub Posted: 29 Apr 2020 01:46 PM PDT 10 months ago someone dmed me on Reddit promoting his game he said it was a idle zombie 2d kinda game where you said other people's base and it's online he invited me to his discord but I got kicked [link] [comments]
[Request] premium top down shooter? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 01:09 PM PDT Looking for something with game play similar to alien shooter or 1942 but without ads or pay 2 win. Must not have: pay 2 win, video ads that you have to wait for (banners are fine). Paid or Free is fine Single is fine but multiplayer would be a nice bonus Must be Playable Offline [link] [comments]
[REQUEST] Made-for-Mobile Games? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 12:43 PM PDT I'm looking for good games that were designed for mobile. Balder's Gate, Final Fantasy, etc are fun, but I've played 'em a million times and I want something different. I prefer rpg but any genre is ok, and paid games, unless microtransactions aren't bad. Where do I find actually good games? The play store sucks Posted: 28 Apr 2020 08:50 PM PDT I know "just use this subreddit" and all but... damn, few people here share my taste. I don't like sifting through garbage, Android games are almost never fun enough to justify it. The review system sucks so I can never figure out if a game is worth downloading. I like games similar to Hoplite and Universal Paperclips, fun games that are easy to pick up but also complex enough to not get boring. I don't like just clicking a button and seeing number go up. edit: Woah! What's with the downvote ratio? Not wanting to play Stardew/Minecraft in ten minute bursts doesn't mean I hate those games. I like roguelikes and similar games on mobile, games you can reasonably put down and pick back up without losing focus. Pixel/Shattered Dungeon is a good one [link] [comments]
Worst game you have ever played? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 11:46 AM PDT
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 11:39 AM PDT I don't see it in the playstore anymore, did something happen? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 08:30 AM PDT Currently playing Dragon Champions and used to play M&M Elementals a ton Games that it's turned based combat (has an auto battle button) you level up a ton of heroes, get runes/glyphs and farm stuff etc But looking for 1 more that, want the best one that's somewhat new and not have to spend a dime. I'm fine never being one of the top players, just something to casually play. [link] [comments]
Controller and charging question Posted: 29 Apr 2020 07:43 AM PDT So recently I bought a Sony Dualshock 4 controller to use with my phone (Samsung Galaxy S8 Active). Originally I was planning on using it through Bluetooth, but it has some connection issues and disconnects randomly. No big deal, I'm fine using it wired. My question is though, is there a way that I have the controller plugged in and working while also charging my phone at the same time, through some kind of USB c splitter? I see some products like that on Amazon, but they seem to be more geared toward splitting audio for headphones. I'm just wondering if what I want to do is even possible. Thanks! [REQUEST] One handed, possibly offline RPGs? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 05:44 PM PDT Broke my left thumb and hurt my wrist. Currently having to wear a cast. What's the best RPG I can comfortably play one handed? Preferably offline, but not exactly a deal breaker. [link] [comments]
Quarantine *and* electrical failure has led me here. Posted: 29 Apr 2020 06:28 AM PDT To give some context on my title. The first is obvious, the second is more complex. Half our home suffered an electrical short that rendered the use of several wall sockets in most of the rooms dead. We are basically working from a seperate fusebox meant for outside and charging phones/etc through that one's sockets. Given that getting an electrician in to do a once-over the main box is a bit of a stretch until lockdowns lift, ive since resorted to using my phone as a gaming device. Now to the meat of my inquiry: im looking for some offline sandbox-like (rpg, sim, action) games to pass the time. Personally a fan of games such as Privateer, the X series on PC, though im not against dipping into some zombie slaying, like this Bad2Bad Extinction game im on, just janked the fuck out with the 2d-3d shooting and need something different for that, otherwise im enjoying the rest. Would prefer less ads and more upfront purchase at the door myself too. Not against the off in-app, but blatant ad shoving is a massive no-no. B2B above actually is a good example of my upper limit.
