Sunday Rant/Rage (Mar 22 2020) - Your weekly complaint thread! Posted: 22 Mar 2020 04:14 AM PDT Note 1. Join our IRC, and Telegram chat-rooms! Please see our wiki for instructions. This weekly Sunday thread is for you to let off some steam and speak out about whatever complaint you might have about:
Rules 1) Please do not target any individuals or try to name/shame any individual. If you hate Google/Samsung/HTC etc. for one thing that is fine, but do not be rude to an individual app developer. 2) If you have a suggestion to solve another user's issue, please leave a comment but be sure it's constructive! We do not want any flame-wars. 3) Be respectful of other's opinions. Even if you feel that somebody is "wrong" you don't have to go out of your way to prove them wrong. Disagree politely, and move on. [link] [comments]

Got the Moto G8 Power after swearing I wouldn't, ask me anything about the phone Posted: 21 Mar 2020 12:37 PM PDT So I was able to extend my plan since recently, before this I had Moto G7 Power that I have passed down to a younger sibling today. The G7 still exceeds the G8 Power in battery life by a considerable margin so I swore I wouldn't switch. Yet I did and am so far not regretting it 1 day in. The haptic feedback is pretty good imo when put on max vibration at every keypress, the frame is metal inside I think but plastic outside, the screen feels absolutely fantastic and got a bump to 1080P, the stereo speakers are great too. If you have any other questions about it ama here. Edit: can take long to answer because thread approval time+need to sleep [link] [comments]
outlook app can take photo while composing email, why doesn't gmail have this feature? Posted: 21 Mar 2020 11:45 PM PDT seems a gross oversight, or is this google's way of forcing us to use Photos. [link] [comments]
Can we take a moment to talk about password autofill on Android? Posted: 21 Mar 2020 04:03 AM PDT Autofill has been introduced with Android Oreo (so almost 3 years ago) and for almost the same time I have been using the password manager Enpass with my phone and Pc. I hated the consistent "safe password"-popups so I disabled them plus I used different browsers for my phone and pc so sync wasn't an option anyway. When they introduced the option to use Android autofill API I was so happy, immediately enabled it as soon as Enpass supported it just to be disappointed. When logging into apps it worked fine, but how often do you have to do this? While using a browser the experience was terrible, the popup not appearing half of the time and when it did it suddenly disappeared before you were able to click to login. When it worked the app did not suggest a saved password, you had to manually search for and tap it to be able to autofill. Then one day it suddenly stopped working for Chrome and I decided to just stop using pages I have to login often on my phone and use them on my computer instead. There the manager worked flawlessy. Global and in browser shortcuts, the passwords get suggested correctly everytime and you don't even have to press enter to login. Fast forward more than a year I got myself an iPad. I was not keen on entering each and every password manually so I installed my password manager, synced and tried it out. And boy, was it a pleasure! It worked exactly the way I imagined it to work on Android, passwords getting suggested and you can login with a tap of a button (and your fingerprint to authenticate). And thus across all browsers (I know, the run the Safari engine in the background but that's not the point) and all apps. However, the situation on Android is still the same, even though we have progressed to Android Pie and Q. The login in Chrome still (!) doesn't work, in Firefox based browsers it works exactly as before and in Chromium browsers like Brave it's supposed to work but still doesn't. I tried different password managers and still the same story. I just reverted to the old method with notification autofill, it's an unconvenient way but it works (kinda, still have to manually search for the passwords) and try to avoid webpages where you have to login often. It's been years and Google still can't fix these issues! I have read about the Chrome password manager to work better on Android but I have not tried it as I stopped using Chrome alltogether, plus I don't want to depend on Google for everything. What has been your experience with this topic? [link] [comments]

Does your perfect phone exist? Posted: 22 Mar 2020 02:05 AM PDT I mean the phone that meets all your needs For me no it doesn't, my perfect phone would be a combination of the ROG Phone 3 specs and Samsung One UI features and the S-Pen and google's great photography and the iPhone's videography and sapphire protective layer for the screen and carbon fiber frame and back + other things that I think most people will not care about. I would ask for many things more but this will be enough. [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Mar 2020 01:51 PM PDT I've been using the Samsung Galaxy s20 Ultra 5G for about a week now and haven't seen anyone else do anything like this. (other than reviewers). AMA, and let me know if you want to see camera comparisons with other phones, I can probably get some comparison shots with most other mainstream phones in the US (basically not Huawei phones). Fun find: Android stopwatch kept going despite phone shutting down from a dead battery. Posted: 20 Mar 2020 08:05 PM PDT I started a stopwatch while grilling out back. My phone died when I turned the flashlight on. I plugged it in, ate dinner, turned phone on and stopwatch was still ticking accurate to the total time passed including off time. Just thought it was interesting and wanted to share. [link] [comments]
My experience with AccuBattery Posted: 21 Mar 2020 06:43 PM PDT I recently got a new phone (S20 Ultra Exynos 4G) and wanted to get some more detailed stats about its battery usage than what the system device care gives. The new device care in One UI 2 is terrible imo. When you search accubattery on reddit the results are basically all people that say its not accurate and you should rather rely on the device care info. (Granted a lot of people were commenting on the credibility of the "health" section accubattery gives, which i cant comment on because i cant actually measure the battery's true capacity either) So i installed the app the day i got the phone and its been gathering stats for the last 6 days over 75 "sessions". Ive been really sporadic with charging and also cause of covid19 and staying at home with a new phone ive been using it an admittedly unhealthy amount of time. Anyway. Over the 75 sessions the data it gives is: 9.9% /h drain Screen ON 2.0% /h drain Screen OFF 6.4% /h drain Combined Predicted full battery times: Screen on 10h8min Screen off 49h21min Combined 15h42min NOW, today i decided to charge overnight and use from 100% to dead for the first time to see actual SOT and how the averages compare to an actual day. Results 15h18min combined use till dead (vs 15h42 predicted) 9.7% /h drain Screen ON (vs 9.9) 2.1% /h drain Screen OFF (vs 2.0) 6.5% /h drain Combined (vs 6.4) Actual SOT: 8h46min Important to note that the predicted Screen on time for full battery it provides is if you had to drain from 100 to 0 with the screen being on throughout, so people shouldn't use that number to claim their SOT. But overall, definitely impressed with the app, but also with the phones battery. This is running at 120Hz btw, and with the ATBM (March 1) software still, haven't received the new update here yet. Also haven't experienced any heating issues at all. [link] [comments] |
