How much does Android really differ on devices these days?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 09:16 AM PDT

I've only passively interacted with Android in the past. The Samsung Galaxy Note9 is the first Android device that I've personally owned. I'm now going on a about a year and a half with it and absolutely LOVE it. Not only that, but I actually even like Samsung's One UI and some of their Apps.

Anyway, I'm looking into what might end up replacing the Note9 in the coming 6-10 months. Right now, I'm honestly leaning more towards the LG V60 than the Note20, because I think it will be a bit cheaper, has flagship specs and STILL has a headphone jack. Not only that, but it has a quad DAC. See, I'm much more interested in my phone as an audio player than a camera. I'd rather not be spending an extra $300-$500 for all of the camera tech being crammed into these devices.

So that has me asking about Android skins. If I like One UI, is LG and/or Sony's approach to skinning Android really that bad? Because I think I even prefer One UI to vanilla Android. If so, what makes them bad amd what can be done to possibly improve them?

    Privacy on samsung device

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 01:45 AM PDT

I just received today the data from my GDPR request to samsung, took a quick look and thought i would share a few key elements i found interesting.

    • Samsung collect its data from mostly 3 app : BixbyVoice, SamsungPass, SamsungHealth.
    • Samsung know every app installed on your phone through Bixby.
    • Samsung know every contact on your phone through Bixby.
    • Samsung know every command you sent to Bixby, the time you sent it and your geolocation (GPS adress).
    • Samsung know your home adress, age, genre.
    • Samsung also know every contact and phone number saved in your phone through SamsungPass.

To those who have samsung phone and would like to keep these informations private, i suggest you to pay good attention to these 3 apps and make sure to remove their permission to contact and phone.

Bixby permissions can't be disabled but the app can be disabled by using adb.
