Is Google Photos best option for backing up photos on Android ? Posted: 30 Mar 2020 02:37 AM PDT So I recently used up all my 15 gb of free storage and have been looking how to continue backing up my files. I didn't want to pay for it but seems like I have no option, if I want to have cloud access that is. Are there any other services that you guys use that could be better option. 100 gb is way more then I need right now but it isn't expensive. If it had like 50 gb option for 1 USD insted of 2 USD for 100 I would have no doubt getting it. [link] [comments] |

I deleted the app, the app was 2.7 rated. So my real question was can apps from Play Store access your login information and data. [link] [comments] |
With Google Pixel, Google Maps GPS dot drifts up to 1 mile away, making navigation useless Posted: 30 Mar 2020 07:18 AM PDT Since about 2 weeks ago, my GPS dot suddenly started drifting around the map (sometimes up to a mile away) when driving OR simply just sitting at home. I've tried the following troubleshooting steps:
No idea what else to try. It's a completely different phone now with a different SIM card. The only thing in common is the network. My wife has a Google Pixel of the exact same model (Pixel 1), but a different network (AT&T) and has no problems at all, so I don't think it's our environment (walls, vehicle) causing problems. Also, this problem only started happening recently (2-3 weeks ago), after working fine for 2 years. [link] [comments] |
How do I transfer files larger than 4GB on a MicroSD card? Posted: 29 Mar 2020 06:41 PM PDT To my knowledge, MicroSD cards with Android use a specific type of system that doesn't allow large files over 4GB to transfer. Is there any way around this? I have many files larger than 4GB that I'd like to transfer. Is there a specific type of SD card that I could use? The Samsung MicroSD cards are nice for the price, but the file size limit is a huge bummer. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Mar 2020 07:09 AM PDT If I want to stream/record my phone's screen then attaching a USB-C to HDMI cable, then a capture card which then transmits via USB 3.0 to my PC works BUT I cannot do this via just the USB 3.0 connection? To me it looks like adb + Android just need a few new commands. Seems like a missed opportunity. It cannot possibly be a matter of power/transmission speeds since USB to HDMI already happens anyway via the USB-C port/phone. If capture cards work slowly over delay and synchronization, then the same can be applied via a tool on the PC side. There are tools out there for adb that allow wireless screen+audio casting, or USB based screen casting or USB based audio casting but nothing for turning the USB 3.0 connection into an HDMI like input to the PC. I apologize if am missing something or it's quiet simple to do since Google searches on this don't really lead anywhere. [link] [comments] |
Anyone else experiencing issues with Google Photos backup recently? Posted: 30 Mar 2020 07:08 AM PDT Hey all, The past couple days or so I've noticed that Google Photos is having issues backing up my photos - I noticed because it has also been using up a ton of battery (91% at one point according to my battery stats) - I uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared data/cache, moved photos out of my DCIM folder and back in - nothing has worked. It just says "Getting ready to back up x items" and keeps on spinning without backing up. I'm guessing/hoping this is just due to some strain on Google's servers and the problem will resolve itself. Is anyone else currently experiencing anything like this? I've been using Google Photos for years and have never had issues before this started. [link] [comments] |
What is the best messaging app for sharing 4k videos? Posted: 30 Mar 2020 11:47 AM PDT I'm trying to find a good messaging app that I can share videos over a minute long in 4k or has good built in video compression to 1080p. And also is cross-platform accessible for iPhone users. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Chrome crashes after download completes Posted: 30 Mar 2020 07:44 AM PDT My Google Chrome crashes and closes whenever a download is completed. The download completes but in the notification it says 'Download error'. It's an annoyance because if I'm downloading multiple files, once the first one completes the others don't finish. I've cleared data through the app setting and (tried) to uninstall it but as I have a Samsung it just uninstalls the update. What else can I do to try get it to work and is anyone else having this issue? I'm running a Note 10 on Android 10 [link] [comments] |
My status bar and navigation bar problems Posted: 30 Mar 2020 07:33 AM PDT Just recently, around 7 hours ago, everytime i used my phone, in a random moment the navigation bar diappears, and the status bar jerks, followed by both bars returnubg swiftly after. The same process repeats ablnd repeats. Youtube videos suddenly stop. When i type, the keyboard lowers itself, and twitch videos buffer although my wifi is good (the buffering is accompanied by the disappearance of the two bars). Pleade help [link] [comments] |
Android slows way down when over 80% memory usage Posted: 30 Mar 2020 11:11 AM PDT I have an LG G5 with Android 8.0.0. Whenever the memory usage goes above 80% the phone becomes barely responsive until I manually kill apps which are reported as in memory but supposedly dormant. I feel like the OS starts swapping memory or something at above 80%. On top of that the phone tends to idle at around 65% memory usage which is strange because it has 4GB of RAM to begin with so not sure why it needs that much just to be powered on. Is there anything I can do to stop this slowdown or lower baseline RAM usage? I read over and over that RAM usage shouldn't matter because those apps are actually dormant, etc. but that's clearly not the case here. Any help here is appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Can unlocked phone's hotspot be tracked? Posted: 30 Mar 2020 10:36 AM PDT I have a factory unlocked phone with no carrier software on it. I do not have hotspot in my plan, but will in a few days. My carrier restricts usage of the hotspot function without it in your plan. However since I don't have carrier software, I can still turn it on. Also, becuase I don't have carrier software, when my hotspot data runs out there's nothing there to stop it from using more. Could this get me in trouble? [link] [comments] |
Very strange behaviour from Android SD Card Posted: 30 Mar 2020 05:50 AM PDT I have an 128GB SD card in my Android Phone (Nokia 6.3) which until now has been behaving just fine. But now it is acting very strangely. I noticed it when I tried to reinstall Resilio Sync, and even when I had clicked the 'grant write access' button, I got 'Android OS restricting access' to the SD card. I have tried to delete folders on the SD cards in other apps, and the deletion either fails, or completes but the folders are still there. I have tried to format the card from within the Android settings: it says the format completes, but the files are still there. I even downloaded Total Commander to try and change the permissions on the card manually, but to no avail. Putting the card into my Windows machine, I've done everything I can think of to reset/format the card. Chkdsk came back with 'unknown error', and formatting doesn't work (even with diskpart utility and the 'override' parameter). I can delete the folders on the SD card through Windows explorer, and it shows the space on the card freed up, but when I try to format it the formatting fails and the files/used space reappears! In short, is the card totally screwed? Thanks for any light that can be shed! [link] [comments] |

Hide icon in status bar for ongoing notification? Posted: 30 Mar 2020 01:23 AM PDT I use weather underground and I really like having the ongoing notification on so I can just slide down and look at the temp, but it also has a permanent icon in the status bar and I don't like that. Is there any way in Android that I can hide this? [link] [comments] |

***URGENT*** Charging a phone with a faster charger Posted: 30 Mar 2020 08:38 AM PDT My phone has a microUSB port that supports 5V 2A charging, but my charger is dying and I can't get a new one because all the shops are closed. My siblings have USB-C chargers with 5V 2A and 9V 1.67A. Can I just put my microUSB cable into their adapter and charge my phone like that? Will it cause damage? [link] [comments] |
How do I open [another instance] of an app that's is currently being invoked/called by another app? Posted: 30 Mar 2020 08:36 AM PDT I'm using Android 9 on and I frequently run into this problem when I have to assemble information from different apps, here's a simplified example: Let's say I'm sorting files and find one that I want to share a file via email. I select the file and use the share functionality to invoke my email app (K9). For the text I want to put inside the mail body, I'll have to look up some other info in my mail account. But yikes! I can't read my other mails because K9 is still being invoked by the file browser. How can I get to the normal view of the app without closing the invoked view? In this specific situation I would have to cancel the sharing, look up the info, then write a new mail and browse to the attachment manually. But in my usual workflow I often have a chain of multiple apps calling each other and already input some information in each that I don't want to lose. E.g. I search for someone's contact info online (Firefox), find it and click their email link (which opens K9 mail) and attach an image (which opens file browser) which I seek to edit before sending the mail (which opens image editor app). Now the kind of edits I make to the image as well as the file name I store under it with is something that depends on info I have stored in K9 Mail or Firefox … …. which I can't get to because they are currently invoking the other apps. Checkmate? Is this an inherent limitation of android that I need to readjust my workflow around or is there some tricks that makes it possible? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Mar 2020 08:12 AM PDT Currently, I go into settings and into each individual app to delete the cache on a weekly basis. If there is an app where I can set where it will delete all cache at one time, that would be awesome. [link] [comments] |

Potential Facebook Messenger spyware/virus? Posted: 30 Mar 2020 06:01 AM PDT Recently I've been getting FB Messenger update notifications that don't come from the play store. When I tap to update it I get a pop-up saying I can open it with Malwarebytes or the package installer. If I click package installer I am met with the "you cannot install files from an untrusted source" or something like that. You know what I mean, when you install 3rd party APKs. I'm wondering if I have a potential virus/Spyware version of messenger or if that's how it updates nowadays. Thanks in advance for any help! [link] [comments] |
New Android user needing help! Posted: 29 Mar 2020 05:31 PM PDT Hello everyone, I recently purchased a Google Pixel after years of using an iphone. I love everything about it except one thing. On my Iphone I could just swipe my thumb across the screen to go back or collapse a comment section. Is there any possible way to do that on an Android? I know It's such a petty complaint but reaching for the back button every time is really annoying me. [link] [comments] |
