Still stuck on 8.1 but security patch wise it's actually not bad.

My observations as an owner of a S20+ exonys model

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 06:47 PM PDT

My last few phones have been OnePlus.

After my 6t's screen got cracked, I decided to take advantage of a nice package deal on the S20+, despite it's premium price compared to what I have been used to.

I was not expecting the performance to be so sub-par.

•This phone gets HOT. And this is just with normal use, after maybe only 30 minutes of screen on time. While playing a game, it is uncomfortable to hold.

    • It has serious lag and frame drops.

The two most egregious times this is apparent is using Facebook messenger and chat heads pop up. Everything just comes to a screeching halt, until I close them.

When playing Marvel Strike force, whenever there are more than 10 characters on screen, action moves at maybe 10fps.

I never had, nor still do, have these problems on my year+ old OnePlus. Quite frankly for the cost of the S20+ I'm appalled.

This is such a huge shame, as I love the screen, I love the camera & I love how it feels in my hand.

But as far as I can tell, this exynos chipset is hot garbage compared to the snapdragon.

Maybe software updates will fix things, but I'm not optimistic.

    Extra notes:

    This is the 4G variant.

I had my screen and battery replaced after 8 days use, as dead pixels appeared.

    Hangouts shared image downloader solution

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 01:44 PM PDT

Google is shutting down Hangouts soon, so I moved my group chats away from Hangouts.

I wanted to make backup from all shared images, but currently there is no way to get them. So as solution I made a small script that downloads all links from Hangouts history. Seems to work for now, so maybe its helpful for somebody else as well.

It can be found here Github with tutorial how to use it.

    Feedback / improvements welcome

How to install custom fonts on Android 10

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 01:39 AM PDT

I decided to make a tutorial on how to install custom fonts on Android 10 since Google removed support for them. It requires Magisk/ROOT, but it's worth it. If you want to learn how, click here.

I hope someone finds this helpful.
