Samsung executives grilled on Exynos chips poor performance during shareholders meeting Posted: 19 Mar 2020 03:30 AM PDT Koh also had to face a question about Samsung's decision to maintain the split between Qualcomm and Exynos chips for its flagship phones, despite the performance and efficiency gap between the two. The Galaxy S20 comes with the Snapdragon 865 in South Korea, not the Exynos 990. "What is the reason for sticking to the poor performance of Exynos and how to improve it?" asked a shareholder. Koh responded that Samsung doesn't just push the Exynos chip because it's made by the System LSI division of the company, which generates a significant chunk of its revenue from orders by the mobile division. "We are choosing a chipset based on competitive logic," Koh reportedly said. The machine translation of the report, which is in Korean, also mentions that Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Kim Ki-Nam listened to Koh talk about competitive logic with an "expressionless" look. https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-grilled-exynos-chips-lack-of-features-shareholders/amp/ for those who are not aware what's going on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CUSe8kgIE8 https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/fiycgm/further_testing_shows_that_exynos990_has_some/ [link] [comments]

How was your experience with Android 10's Game Driver? (Developer Options) Posted: 19 Mar 2020 02:34 PM PDT I've always been a huge Vulkan fan in PC titles, and recently got a dual sim Nokia 9 Pureview for ~$400, which happens to be an Android One device I noticed the Game Driver setting in Developer Options, and ignored it for a while, until I installed GTA San Andreas. Apparently this previously abandoned game got an update last year regarding compatibility and crashes on newer devices. The performance was terrible! Constant stuttering, low fps, no matter what settings I use (Snapdragon 845). So I remembered the Game Driver setting and gave it a try, and to my surprise, it fixed the issue But wait a minute... Isn't GTA:SA an Open GL title? So I did some research and found this on MIUI: Q: "What's the difference between System Driver and Game Driver? (Pocophone F1)" A: "This is generally regarding the Vulkan integration of Android 10. With this version, Google is pushing Vulkan everywhere that demands support for Vulkan 1.1 as a basic requirement for all 64-bit devices. For gamers, it gets even better thanks to an updated Almost Native Graphics Layer Engine (ANGLE) that implements OpenGL ES on top of Vulkan 1.1. With ANGLE onboard, you should enjoy higher frame rates, faster loading times, and improved battery life when gaming." So apparently, what happened here was that ANGLE kicked in and restored performance, which brings up 2 questions: 1) Why the hell was the game running so bad with the normal driver, is google somehow restricting it's performance? 2) How was YOUR experience with the new Game Driver??? Because I found another thread regarding this, and apparently no one really noticed a difference Looking forward to your replies, thanks :)) [link] [comments]

What's your opinion about Exynos and Snapdragon versions of Galaxy S or Note series? Posted: 19 Mar 2020 04:55 AM PDT Which version do you consider better? I looked it up on the Internet to find out that generaly Snapdragon versions are better and that applies to several generation, e.g. S8, S9, S10 - and even S20 now. Well, I sometimes watch MrWhoseTheBoss videos although I find them sketchy most of the times, but there is a new video just about this topic: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6CUSe8kgIE8 Benchmarks show significant difference in overall performance between Snapragon and Exynos versions (even camera quality varies), however I am concerned that benchmarks are raw estimations and don't reflect everyday usage. What do you guys think about it? Is the difference really there and would it matter for an average consumer? I guess not as both are really flagship SoC at theirs best, but do you consider that this is Samsung being unfair with customers? Would it matter to you guys if you had a choice between Snapdragon and Exynos versions? [link] [comments]
My Quick & honest Galaxy Note 10 Review. Posted: 19 Mar 2020 04:35 AM PDT Okay. No bs, I'm gonna get straight to the point. Before upgrading, I was on a galaxy s7 edge. I had always thought that it was a good phone, until I upgraded. Sure, it's 3 generations ahead, but the difference is huge. DISCLAIMER: THIS IS THE REGULAR NOTE 10 (EXYNOS) CAMERA: good, but i had expected better. Pros:
Cons:
PERFORMANCE: Great! Pros: - Exynos 9825 is certainly not as good as the sd 855 model, but it's still more than capable and handles any task nicely including gaming, exporting videos, browsing etc. Better than the sd 855 in gpu performance Cons: - 7nm tech, but still can't beat the sd 855 in cpu performance. Battery: decent Just usable..... expected a little better.... SPEN: Just your usual s pen. Good for writing, questionable for drawing. DISPLAY: 1080p is sometimes overlooked, but its just as sharp as the 1440p on the s7 edge. The colours come in "natural mode" which are much true to life than the saturated default mode for the s7 edge. Audio: Surprisingly, the note 10 (exynos) supports Aptx (low latency bluetooth codec). The included akg tuned earbuds are very nice. With dolby atmos on and uhq upscaling on samsung music, listening to flac files was a very nice experience. The speakers are okay. Nothing crazy about them. HAPTICS: oh boy. These are a tier ahead of my old phones. If the s7 edge is at 60hz, the note feels like 120. Although its not. Probably just software tweaks woth one ui. Only negative is the full screen gestures which are kind of gimmicky. OVERALL i have to say I love this phone. I bought it on sale and I only chose this over the iphone/pixel because it was the best value (storage wise). I can't really recommend this to anyone since I haven't tried any other new phones, still this phone is a solid choice for an upgrade. Hope you guys enjoyed it. [link] [comments] |
