    Samsung-style emojis gone from Gboard?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 08:46 AM PST

Im running a Note 5, used to be very happy with Gboard but just recetly it swapped out the Samsung style emojis for the uglier Google ones, which is disorienting, I cant even install an older version of Gboard because when i try to it automatically tries to update itself, then crashes because of bad package. Is this just a Gboard thing from now on? Is there anything to be done?

    Problem with diacritical marks

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 03:03 AM PST

Hi everyone! My mom recently bought a Nokia 2.2 and has come accross a weird problem that I can't find a fix for. We are from Latvia and our language has a lot of diacritical marks like āēķīš etc. However, when she tries to send an SMS (usjng default SMS app) with them like "āēīū", the SMS gets sent without them like "aeiu" (the marks are present when writing a message, but get removed when it gets sent, it's also not a visual issue - the marks aren't present on receiving end too). According to her, this wasn't a problem before. Does anyone know a fix for this? Thanks in advance.

Data Usage Monitor is saying I'm at 48gb, but I added up the app data and have only used 25gb. This is the second month in a row. Where is this hidden data coming from?

    Disable smart/quick reply?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 12:13 PM PST

I have a Pixel 3a with Android v10, and I've been seeing these damned quick reply options. Thing is, they're in Telegram and Discord, but searching for an answer in Google talks only about Android Messenger -- which has the option disabled.

How do I turn this annoying crap off?

PS: is there a way to stop that popup when you're going to paste a link? Like, you copy something to the clipboard and when you tap on a text field, a little thing pops up and obscures the text field. Can I turn this off too?

I don't understand how Treble helps with smoothing Android updates

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 11:56 AM PST

So I heard about Android 8.0 and Project Treble, and I don't understand how it's gonna make it easier for phone manufacturers to update android. Here's my understanding:

Pre 8.0, Android uses .so files (shared libraries) to communicate with drivers. These libraries need to respect certain standards in order to be used by the Android Framework. Since these libs are respecting a fixed standard, won't they be compatible with any android release as long as said standards are followed?

Post 8.0, it uses HAL units, or separate "servers" which will listen to any client request through IPC, which is also standardized and should not require rebuild for every android release, since the clients will always expect the same API exposed for a certain HAL unit

I am clearly missing something, since, from what I see, neither of these approaches are version specific, so I don't get how the legacy HAL system requires to be remade for each android versions

change default USB behavior? always connects as USB storage without asking

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 11:51 AM PST

So for the past however many years, when I plug an android device into a PC, the android device has a prompt asking whether to give access to storage, or tether, etc. and would default to charging until something was chosen. My Samsung s10e however, when I plug it into a PC, it immediately grants access to storage without even asking me. I can tap the notification and choose charge only, but it doesn't remember when plugged in again. I searched through all the settings and couldn't find anyway to change this default behavior. Is this a bug? What can I do?

    About AirPods Pro on Android

    Posted: 15 Jan 2020 07:05 PM PST

I just bought a pair and they're working fine except for some issues. Skip forward sensor does not work and I can't tell between noise cancellation and transparency mode. What app shows that, Ik there's a lot of apps that show the charge but I want the modes too.

How come there isn't a single GOOD keyboard for Android?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 11:17 AM PST

If you are on Stock Android there are only TWO keyboards you can install: Gboard and Swift Key, that's it. The rest is just: look you can customize your keyboard by giving it a rainbow unicorn theme or whatever. There is no text prediction on those. Gboard is far from good and it is just frustrating yet it does the best job. I would give Gboard a 8 if you type in ENGLISH but if you type in any other language I would give it a 4. So am I missing out? Is there actually any good keyboard? I find the word prediction on iOS million times better still I wouldn't switch to iOS for many other reasons.

Anyone else having issues with messages not sending since upgrading to android 11?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 11:06 AM PST

I got my galaxy s10+ a few months ago and just had an update for the OS a week or so ago. But ever since the update I've had a strange issue where I'll send a message on the fb messenger app and the person wont receive the message. It says sent but not delivered. And i can send multiple at a time without them being delivered but as soon as I restart my phone they all get delivered at once.

Figured I'd come here to see if this is an issue others are having as well.

(Cant confirm if this is happening with the original messages app built into the phone as I never use it but if you do and have had the issue let me know)

(Pixel 3a / Visible) SMS failing but for 1 person only

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 09:10 AM PST

Earlier this week I started being unable to text one individual. I can get their texts I can send/receive to everyone else, I just cannot send to her. I have no idea how to fix this. I've tried many SMS apps, varied the formatting of her contact # (add +1, remove, xxx-xxx-xxxx vs xxxxxxxxxx, etc), removed her messages and contact and re-added, reset network settings, tried two phones (pixel 3a and 2), and did several factory resets. Nothing works. She's on an older Samsung on tmo I believe, and she's currently working on changing to Visible, too. She's done much of the same on her end an no one has blocked the other.

I've never had problems texting her until this week. Depending on the SMS app I use, the send failures seem to kick back almost instantly, like it's not even attempting to send the messages over the network. I'm at a total loss. Visible also 're-provisioned' my sim last night but it didnt fix anything.

Generally google/reddit search results will provide a solution, but here it has not. The solution that worked for others seems to be varying the phone # format or removing/re-adding the contact, but it didn't do anything for me. Thoughts?

Mysteriously some photos have vanished and now Google Photos keeps stopping

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 05:17 AM PST

    Nokia 8, Android 9

Suddenly most of the downloaded pictures on my phone (no SD cards) have vanished and I can't find them anymore, even the data recovery app DiskDigger was not able to recover them as it sounds like if they have never been deleted...

The folders in the Pictures directory still exist, but they have been emptied mysteriously.

Also, for some long time, until this happened, Google Photos used to show a blank/corrupted photo that couldn't be deleted.

Now Google Photos keeps stopping and despite the fact that backup is off, it shows "Getting your photos..." before crashing.

I've tried file managers but no luck. It's not a primitive issue that could be fixed by deleting a "nomedia" file.

So what's the reason and how to fix and restore/recover the pictures?

Facebook App auto-rotates even if auto-rotate is turned off.

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 08:28 AM PST

Pretty straightforward question, but yeah. Facebook app recently decided to auto-rotate to landscape if i tilt the phone too far, even when auto-rotate feature is disabled. No other apps are doing this, just Facebook. How do I stop it?

Buying my SO a new phone for her birthday. How to make sure I get one that will work on her carrier's (Credo) network?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 07:14 AM PST

According to Credo, the phone needs to be unlocked with a serial number that starts with "u". Do all unlocked phones have serial numbers that start with "u"?

I bought a supposedly unlocked mint but used s10e that had a Verizon splash screen (Verizon phones are supposed to be unlocked, correct?), but it would not recognize her sim. Luckily they'll take the phone back, but I want to make sure the next one I buy will work.

    Thanks!

    Why aren't any emails loading?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 01:07 AM PST

I synced all three email accounts to my new A80 when I got it around mid December, and it still claims I have no emails whatsoever.

I can't find any solutions to this, as all of them are in sync.

They all load in Gmail, so it's not a matter of simply no emails.

Looking for a phone with focus on the camera, budget around 300USD. Please help, thank!

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 06:50 AM PST

    Hi!

I'm moving from my Moto G5 and need a new phone. I'd love a phone where I can take videos or cameras as I make videos and take photos for a living and would like to have a phone that could take my cameras place when I don't have that on hand.

It would be great if it would rival my default travel camera (Lumix G85) in term of camera quality. Honestly any phone around 300USD would be better than my current Moto G5 (love you bud).

    300 to 400 USD ish

    Thanks for your suggestions!

    OnePlus 7t Amazon Order

    Posted: 15 Jan 2020 08:04 PM PST

I'm not sure if this is the right place, if not if you wouldn't mind directing me to a more appropriate place, I would appreciate it.

I am looking to buy a OnePlus 7t and was looking on Amazon. Earlier today, the vendor selling it was Amazon Fulfilled and was supposed to arrive on Friday, but now it just says shipped and sold by BuyeRush and that it will arrive on Tuesday of next week. Does anyone have experience with this seller, or know if I would be safe in the event that I would need to return the device and get a refund? Here is the specific product in question: https://www.amazon.com/OnePlus-Unlocked-International-Warranty-Glacier/dp/B07ZQSQCN9/ref=pd_rhf_ee_p_img_3?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=21BW2928JQGS911D2M93&th=1

Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
