Now that Google Play supports Samsung HDR10+, what happens to Dolby Vision?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 09:35 AM PST

Samsung HDR10+ has been unveiled as a way to bring HDR tech on par with Dolby Vision without paying Dolby's royalties.

So far, it hasn't attracted a lot of other TV makers and content distributors besides Panasonic and Amazon.

I need to return a leased phone, but Sprint blocked all connections including wifi and can't reset my phone before turning it in.

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 10:11 PM PST

The device is Samsung J7 Refine.

As the title suggests, I switched carriers and need to return a device, but before returning the device, I would like to factory reset it to prevent any privacy issues.

However, I need to enter a password to a Samsung account in order to reset the phone, which we do not have anymore, and I can't do the temporary authentication with email because Sprint restricted the device from being used by blocking the WIFI.

So, what are my options to reset the device here?

Edit: Issue solved by factory resetting by going through recovery. Enter recovery mode through vol up, home, power.

Edit2: Phone was on a lease with a Sprint Mobile Device Management installed, that's how Sprint was able to restrict device access.

    Lockscreen notifications don't expand

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 09:35 AM PST

    On a OnePlus 6T running Android 10, OOS 10.3.0

I can temporarily expand them by dragging down, but they don't stay down - thus I am not able to use media controls, reply to messages, etc.

I've tried double tapping, tapping the little arrow at the top right of them, and dragging to expand. All of these used to work before I updated to A10. Anyone else have this issue / know how to fix?

    Thanks

Keep Quick Panel columns from going from 6 to 4 when all the way swiped down

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 08:29 AM PST

I can't stand that my two top right-most quick panel buttons move to the second row when the quick panel is swiped down from just being at the top of the screen. If I access the quick panel buttons on lock screen it doesn't give the top only version and those buttons are on the left side of the second row, and if I swipe anywhere else unlocked, they are on the top right unless I swipe down twice. May seem petty, but it drives me crazy. No matter where I swipe down from, they should be in the same positions and not go from 6 per row to 4 per row.

Is there any way to make the fully swiped down version of quick access to have 6 columns like the half slid down version?

Change MSID and MDN on an HTC EVO V4G??

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 08:26 AM PST

I have an old HTC EVO V4G that had virgin mobile service in the past. I recently signed up for tello (a cheap pay as you go carrier) to use this as a secondary number. However the phone continuously tries to activate service on virgin mobile. I've tried manually reprogramming the phone but it will only let me view the MSID and MDN, I have no option to edit. Resetting them does not work either. The phone currently runs android 4.0.3. Any idea on what I can do to get this phone active?

LG G6 - Issues Connecting with Wi-Fi Direct

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 05:31 AM PST

    Hello!

I'm trying to connect my LG G6 phone (Running Android 9) to my Windows 10 Laptop (ASUS K501UX) using Wi-Fi Direct.

I'm in Settings > Wifi > Advanced Wifi > WiFi Direct on my phone. It's scanning for devices, and not finding any. I'm not connected to cellular data or a Wi-Fi network, and my hotspot is off. When I try to add a device on Windows 10 (Bluetooth and Other Devices > Add Bluetooth or other device > Everything else), my phone shows up, but when I try to connect, it just loads for a really long time then tells me to try to connect again. Nothing happens on my phone when I try this from my PC, and my PC does not show up on the list of available devices, even when it's finished searching.

I have the free version of Kaspersky on my phone. I don't know if that messes anything up, but I'm writing it in case it's significant.

    Need help recovering text messages!

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 06:25 AM PST

My Samsung s7 edge recently broke on me. It cyclically boots. Sometimes it stays on for five minutes and other times dies instantly. Unfortunately its not the battery. I upgraded to a note 10+ and by freezing the s7 edge for 10 minutes managed to use wireless smart switch to recover all of my messages. The s7 edge stayed on for about a hour during the transfer. Here is my dilemma:

My girlfriend and I are prolific texters and I need our messages for a gift I'm working on. I managed to retrieve all of the messages as I said with one major problem. It created two text conversations One with all of our MMS and the other with SMS. That is with the default 10+ messenger. I tried the verizon messenger I used on my s7 edge and it did the same thing except one conversation has all of her responses and the other, mine.

So here is my question: Is there anything I can do to fix this and regain the conversation's original continuity? Would another messaging app work? Or could I do the smart switch transfer again? Or is there a backup app I could try? I haven't tried booting up the s7 edge again so I may be able to do something with that. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time and knowledge.

Issues with Gboard on Samsung S10e

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 07:14 AM PST

After the phone's most recent update, anytime I swipe the home gesture on my keyboard it puts a space into the text line and then closes the app. For instance, if I'm using Textra to send a text and then swipe home, it puts a space in the text line which saves the message as a draft and then goes home. Very annoying, anyone have a solution to this? It never did this until recently.

Possible to upgrade from Android 4.4.2

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 12:38 PM PST

    I have a tablet - a Fusion5 Power4, that is a Q102 (fibre_bs1078) with a Armv7 Processor rev 3 (v71) A7 @ 1.2Ghz, running Android 4.4.2.

There are no updates from the manufacturer or seller.

Will this be acceptable for an Android upgrade?

Snapchat problem!!! Saving snaps in memories still takes up phone space?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 11:54 AM PST

    Hello.

Since the title isn't that clear I will try and squeeze in as much details as possible just to give you guys a full idea of this problem, so this might be quite a lengthy read, I apologize for that, please bear with me.

So I'm not a frequent Snapchat user, I mainly use it as a mean of taking and saving videos on a cloud instead of having them cluttered in my phone and clogging up storage, so it's safe to say that I'm quite the noob when it comes to the ins and outs of the app.

However, this is a problem that I face everytime I'm taking and saving videos, my storage gets devoured by the app even though I'm only saving pics and vids on its cloud.

Yesterday I ran into this issue again. Usually whenever I'm out with friends I tend to record a lot of videos, and I make sure they're only saved in memories and not on my device, at first I thought the problem was because I overwhelmed both the app and my phone almost constantly recording and saving, but I stopped recording for about an hour and cleared both Snapchat and phone caches, thinking the ugly "Not enough storage" notification of doom might go away, but it didn't help at all.

Snapchat itself started acting up, it couldn't save one of the videos I took which resulted in me of course losing it forever, it stopped capturing audio, it wasn't recording immediatly but snapping a picture instead, it froze midst recording and cut out that part from the video, you know all that Snapchat-on-android shizz.

But all that didn't matter when the biggest compromise was my storage, I went from 2.3 GB down to 400 MB available storage, enough for me to have a small heartattack, and it didn't go beyond 500 MB even when I deleted cach, it slightly improved when I had to sacrifice some of the apps I didn't use often, but that still wasn't enough and it's stuck at 1.4 GB now. Now somebody please explain to me where in the world has an entire Gega byte (almost) gone to?

I still can't figure out why Snapchat used up this much space and what for, and yes I'm certain it's Snapchat because right before I left home my storage was doing fine at 2.3 GB, and mind you, that was including ALL the apps that I had to delete after the Snapchat crisis.

I've been relying on the app thinking I could utalize the cloud storage feature, mainly to avoid running into such problems that I otherwise would if I used my phone camera. I tried to look for any Snapchat related files that I can delete, but found none or I was looking in the wrong places, this is when I decided to call reddit for help.

If you have run into a similar issue, please share, and if you happen to have found a source to what's eating up space, I'd very appreciate if you could help a fellow androider out.

Thanks so much for reading and putting up with me thus far, and thanks for your help in advance.

    Bluetooth Codecs...how do they work?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 11:19 AM PST

So, I got a new phone (Redmi K20) recently, with Bluetooth that actually works. It seems to have a lot more settings than I would have guessed. There's a whole bunch of different codecs it seems to support, varying varieties of Qualcomm apt-X, Sony's LDAC, AAC, and a few others I don't even recognize. I have a whole bunch of Bluetooth audio accessories, from some pretty high end Sony portable speakers to some super cheap true wireless earbuds I got off Aliexpress for nearly nothing. How can I determine what codecs a particular device likes, and how do I configure my phone to make it use that particular codec with that device? I assume the fancy Sony's are capable of better than the not-so-fancy Servo's, but no matter what I click, it seems to use 16 bit AAC on everything. What am I not understanding here? Should I just trust whatever it's doing and start worrying less?

    Download Problems on Chrome

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 11:18 AM PST

On my MI A2, all the chromium based browsers such as Brave, Bromite, Chromium, Chrome, Canary face a similar problem while downloading files. When anything is finished downloading, instead of showing as Download Completed, it shows 'Download Error' and restarts the whole browser. Now when I go and open the file, it is completely and perfectly downloaded, however the restarting of the browser and showing the Error message is what messes things up while in Incognito (closes all incognito tabs) or while downloading multiple files (browser restarts multiple times).

PS: I am nearly on the latest versions of all those given browsers

Constant pausing issue can anyone help?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 11:07 AM PST

    Android 9. Cubot r15

Not a switching from WiFi to data issue. WiFi only

Not a Bluetooth issue. It does it while plugged in Via mini Jack and while just playing off the phone.

Problem: if I'm listening to a live audio stream or watching YT it is constantly pausing the feed. Even does it on a buffered YT video.

I've searched around the web, not found any real solutions.

Not even sure how to find out what's causing it.

    Any help would be great.

How do I enable the navigation bar/gestures in other users?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 10:33 AM PST

I started using other users on my OnePlus 7 pro for work purposes. Once I set the user up, my navigation method in the user automatically was set to buttons, which are uncomfortable to use. The option to change to a navigation bar seems to be locked on the settings, as it doesn't appear like it does with my main user, any guidance on how to unlock this option would be appreciated.

Strange Audio Streaming Issues as of Late

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 06:43 AM PST

I've never posted on these forums before because with most issues, I'm able to just google search and find a forum on my exact problem. This one is a little stranger because the string of issues I'm having seem too long to simply google. Perhaps someone here can help or direct me as to where I should go with the issue.

I listen to a lot of sports talk radio, and a lot of the streaming sites for these shows are their own sites, meaning I can't go on spotify (i don't use spotify anyways) or download the mp3 -

here's an example - I access this site using Chrome
    ( https://www.tsn.ca/radio/toronto-1050/overdrive-january-8-2020-hour-3-1.1424483 )

I've been listening on my Android S8 for a year now with little to no issues - as of late (and this was pre update) Three strange things keeps happening while listening to these sites -

    1) The main issue is that the audio keeps pausing on it's own, when i click the side button on my android, to sort of bring up the screen, the audio immediately continues, it's a minor annoyance but it's consistent and it didn't used to be like this .

    2) the audio now breaks in sort of choppy and like staticy as if the stream isn't coming through all the way and it breaks almost radio-like

    3) Occasionally the stream will stop altogether, and I go to chrome to check the page, and it automatically refreshes.

I think this has happened to a few other sites I've streamed audio on so it's definitely a problem with my phone, I just don't even know where to check, what setting to adjust, perhaps it was something I turned on/off - it's so frustrating, any advice would be greatly appreciated

    thanks in advance -
