At a bit of a loss, could use some help. [Honor 7]

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 07:15 AM PST

I am experiencing a number of issues with my phone, which I thought were due to having full storage. I backed up all photos/videos etc onto my laptop, and went on a mass deleting binge. But to my horror I discovered that said photos kept appearing again in my gallery, even after several mass deleting sessions.

Along with this, I'm also unable to download any media sent to me via whatsapp, and any photos I take don't appear in my gallery either.

I have done a factory reset, but am unable to do anything with my SD card (which leads me to believe it may be the issue). Options to eject or format the SD card are greyed out in the Settings menu - and certain apps don't even seem to recognise that there's an SD card there whilst others do.

I hope that all makes sense, any tips or suggestions would be great. I just want to be able to use my phone fully again.

    sending feedback after crash

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 07:00 AM PST

When an app crashes, you are given the option to send feedback, which is a snapshot consisting of several log files. This is sent to either app developer or google, or perhaps both.

It shois my email as sender. I wish to be added to the list of recipients. Is that possible?
For example, the Report Bug option under "developer options" allows it.

    thanks.

Mobile store stole my nudes, what can I do?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 02:07 PM PST

As the title states, a mobile store employe stole my nudes. I sent my phone in for repair for a cracked screen, and I dropped the phone off at the same store I bought the phone at. Standard procedure is to deactivate your passcode for the screen lock, and so I did. I watch the employe put my phone in an envelope, seal it and post it for the offsite repair shop. So far so good. Then, the day after, I'm off to work, and travel for 3 weeks. In the meantime I get some text from the mobile store, that my phone is repaired and ready for pick-up. I return from work the 16/1, and pick up my phone the same day.

Later that day, I checked my screen time app, and it shows an hour of activity the evening before, while it still was in the shop. I then proceed to check with apps are used, and to my horror someone opened my snapchat, dropbox, messenger and gallery app. I then proceed to check out my dropbox activity, and someone created a direct link containing 80 nudes. The link is timestamped 15/1, when the phone still was at the shop. I also check out my google activity, and the same apps are logged in myactivity.

Some images are also downloaded from my dropbox to the phone, and according to the log, they opened Huawei share. They later deleted the pictures. I only know this because some image recovery app I downloaded from play store. I also noticed a new saved wifi in my wifi list, and when I visited the store, my phone connected to the wifi, with I now know is the stores own wifi.

Ive reported all this to the police, sent countless screenshots of the different timestamps and logs. The police obtained the security footage from the shop, but its bad quality, and they can't make anything out of it. They do however have a suspect, as he was the only one at the store at the time all this happened, but they states its not enough to press charges. They need more proof. Is there any way I can extract logs for when I was connected to the stores wifi? Or anything else? Are there other logs on android I can extract? Im desperate!

Update: Short little update, I downloaded all the data Google has stored on me, a whopping 42 GB of data. Can't seem to find any logged ips for the activity though. Also requested data from Instagram, no luck as they only log sessions, not individually log ins. My last hope is getting the data from Dropbox, and that there's something more substantial logging there.

And yes, I know it's an incredible stupid mistake, and I did delete other sensitive information on my phone before handing it in, but this Dropbox folder is 6 years old, and I forgot it was even there.

Also, no point in posting on legal advice, as I'm outside the u.s.

How to set default print settings?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 05:06 AM PST

I am doing this for a family member and I am an iOS guy so I don't know my way around. What I did is I downloaded Samsung Print Service Plug-in, which asked me to assign a static IP to the printer(wierd?!) so I did. Everything works.

Now during printing options I want to change the default options which always chooses "color" for output and I want it to be Black&White. Each time I need to print I have to go in and change the printing options.

For references, my print dialogue looks like this: https://i.stack.imgur.com/r5Lie.png

Updated Android and stock clock widget no longer displays multiple timezones, how do I change this?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 05:43 AM PST

Before the latest update to my Cat S61, the stock android digital clock widget would display my current timezone in a large font, then have space underneath for 2 more clocks in a half-sized font. The extra clocks would default to the other timezones you added within the main clock app. If you added more than 2, it would then allow you to scroll through them from the widget directly.

Now it just displays the single large clock, but it still retains space for where the other small clocks used to go. (I.e. if you press and hold the widget so that the border appears round it, it still reserves space for the clocks but will not display them)

Has anyone experienced this and have a fix? I'm really struggling to find info elsewhere online, starting to think it's device specific.

    Constant "weather widget running" notifications

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 05:36 AM PST

Moto G6 running Pie. Recently had a security fix pushed by Motorola, now I'm getting constant notifications that the default weather widget is running. Any ideas on how to make it stop? Is this something that should be fixed by Motorola instead?

Facebook Messenger, SMS and MIUI - anyone else experience errors here?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 09:59 AM PST

    This is cross-posted from /r/Xiaomi

    Hey all,

I just got a Redmi Note 8 and while I'm waiting for Xiaomi to let me unlock my phone, I'm stuck with MIUI.

It's been a minute since I've been on MIUI and while it's definitely improved, I forgot about one thing that drives me up the wall: the way MIUI handles SMS with third party applications.

I use Facebook Messenger for my SMS because it keeps everything in one place and I feel like the UI is attractive enough to warrant daily use.

Even when I set Facebook Messenger to my default SMS application, it will not allow me to send outbound SMS - when I press send, they just disappear, seemingly into nowhere?

Has anyone else experienced this? I've looked around and there's not a ton regarding this specific issue. Any advice or workarounds would be much appreciated.

Some additional info: I've noticed this is also the case with Huawei's EMUI - so it seems like there's some disconnect between these Chinese custom skins and Facebook's SMS integration. I've tried so many times to figure out what the issue could be, as pretty much every other third party SMS app works just fine.

Recently obtained old 32inch touchscreen Android "tablets". Tech help question

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 09:54 AM PST

I recently received very large touch screen interface monitors running on Android and was wondering if there is a way to just remove the old "brains" and reuse the display itself. There is a program loaded on the machine that has deleted the home button and other things. The manufacturer gave me the code to unlock them, but no matter what I do the home button isn't accessible and neither is play store. The current work around is that I just download apps on a flash drive and load them up that way, including a home button to get that working. This is obviously not ideal.

Any help is greatly appreciated <3

Home screen font color change with recent update?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 04:50 AM PST

I updated my Note9 today and all of a sudden the font color on the home screen (on top) changed from white to black.

I think it changes automatically depending on your wallpaper, but it's still the same as before. Did they change those settings in the latest update? And is there any way to refer it back to the original color?

    Question about ac adapters

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 07:03 AM PST

I'm just trying to buy an ac adapter for my phone and I keep hearing about some QC certification and whether or not it'll fast charge my phone. I always thought it only mattered how many watts the adapter can output. Does it matter if it's certified enough? Say my phone came with a 15 watt charger, can i just buy any 15 watt adapter and it'll charge the same? Or does it have to be QC certified or something?

Can't receive SMS on OnePlus 6T

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 06:13 AM PST

Hi! My phone has been unable to receive SMS for about 3 days now. I'm using Google Messages, and I've tried pretty much everything I could find on the web (apart from flashing / factory resetting).

What I've done so far: - Check the signal: signal is good - Put simcard in a another phone: SMS are received normally - Send SMS from the OP6T: SMS are sent - Wipe Messages app cache and data, uninstall/reinstall: no success - Use another SMS app: no success - Use only one simcard in my phone (I normally have 2 SIMs): no change - Went in service mode and reset the network config: nothing

Useful info: - I've been using the Cerberus security app, but I uninstalled it at about the time I noticed the issue - I sent a huge text message some days ago, and a warning about Messages sending a large number of SMS popped up. I might have clicked on "block" once, but then clicked on "Allow" - My phone is rooted - TWRP is installed and runs well - I have multiple Android users and am unable to perform a nandroid backup (known, unfixed TWRP bug) - I didn't buy my phone on contract and can't use their customer service - I am using OOS 9.0.11 (didn't want to lose root by upgrading) - My phone has started to overheat shortly after I posted this message, I rebooted it many times but the battery is still draining

Feel free to ask for more info, I'll do my best to reply quickly!

    Many thanks :)

    EDIT : added some info

    Software updates on mid-range phones

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 10:43 AM PST

I'm trying to decide between getting the Samsung A70 or the Pixel 3a XL and the thing that I'm stuck on is security updates. Google says there will be regular updates for the 3a thru May 2022, which is pretty good since I'd like this phone to last me at least 2.5 years. I'm wondering if the A70 will be supported for a similar length of time. My current Samsung phone, albeit a cheap J7 V, didn't get security updates regularly. Samsung isn't clear about this, but does anyone have a good estimate for how long the A70 will get regular security updates? Thank you.

    Motion Effect for Wallpaper Missing

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 08:05 AM PST

I couldn't find it but I'm sure this has been brought up but after an update a while back they removed the Motion Effect setting on the home screen wallpaper. Anyone have any idea why they removed this feature or if there is a way to bring it back.

It just seems odd they'd remove a feature for no reason.

    Lightweight background WebDAV sync?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 03:03 AM PST

Folks; is there a straightforward and lightweight way / app / setup recommended to keep a folder on Android continuously in sync with some WebDAV server? I've so far been using heavyweight solutions such as Folder Sync Pro but they tend to get into my way more than be "effective".

Thanks and all the best, Kristian
