Android TV DVR recording with Live Channels app

Android TV DVR recording with Live Channels app

DVR recording with Live Channels app

I have a Channel Master Stream + with the Live Channels app that gives me a 2 week guide and DVR capability. I just purchased an Android TV (Philips 75PFL5704/F7) and when using the Live Channels app (v1.22) I only see PSIP data and can only pause live TV, not set future recordings.

Is this a hardware limitation or am I doing something wrong?

Opinion wanted on Android TV box purchase

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 04:41 PM PST

I'm not sure this is the best place to post this. I'm happy to move it to Bravia or ShieldAndroidTV if that makes more sense.

    Current setup:

    Sony XBR-75X940D TV

    Onkyo TX-NR636 Reciever

I have the TV connected to ethernet and the just use the HDMI return for audio from the TV for everything attached to it to drive my 5.1 surround. It's not the fanciest of setups but it works really well for house, the TV still looks great, and the Onkyo does fine for surround. This is all controlled by a Harmony Hub setup.

What I'm trying to figure out is if it's worth it to upgrade to an Android TV box, likely the new Shield TV Pro. I have an XBOX One X and PS4 Pro connected directly to the TV but neither are ideal for streaming for what my household uses (Kodi, Netflix, Prime Video, Youtube TV, and now Disney + of course). The rest of the TV's in the house are running newer versions of Android TV which my family has gotten used to using and likes. The issue with this setup is that the old version of Android TV on the Sony is pretty slow and has issues that require rebooting the TV 1 or 2 times a week like losing internet, Kodi freezing, etc. BUT everything looks and sounds great when it's working. I have a media server on the home network with a bunch of old DVD rips as well as several newer 4k HDR files. The one issue I had was with larger 2160p HDR files I would get a lot of stuttering in Kodi which I "fixed" by attaching a USB hard drive directly to the TV with those files. Kind of a pain but like I said it works.

I assume the Shield TV Pro would be an upgrade in Android TV performance and I hope stability but I've read through these forums and the Kodi forums about some of the downsides around some audio and video formats. So my questions are:

    - Do y'all think it's worth the upgrade?

    - Would the '19 Nvidia upscaling be better than the Sony TV upscaling?

    - Is there another solution that would work better?

Eventually I'll get a receiver that can handle HDR for all my various sources but I'd like to hold off on that for a bit longer if possible. Given that I assume I'd have to connect the Shield TV directly to the TV like my Xbox and PS4 and use the return channel for audio.

TLDR - Android TV in my "old" Sony TV is starting to suck, should I get a Shield TV Pro?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Are there any routines or methods to load a sideloaded app with google assistant on the shield?

    T95z ethernet LAN issues...

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 04:21 PM PST

    SOLVED!!! SOLVED!!! SOLVED!!!

ALL I HAD TO DO WAS GO BACK TO CABLE AS RECOMMENDED BY A LITTLE CUCKHOLD IN THE COMMENTS. SHOUTOUT NEDSC THE CABLE GUY WHO CALLS TO YOUR HOUSE 5 HOURS LATE IN HIS VAN TO FIX THE ANTENNA ON YOUR ROOF ONLY TO SIT ON YOUR TOILET FOR ANOTHER HOUR BECAUSE HE'S SPENT THE WHOLE DAY AT BURGER KING STUFFING HIS FACE, ARRIVES FROM YOUR BATHROOM AN HOUR LATER WITH HIS PANTS DOWN AROUND HIS ANKLES, LEAVING AN UNFLUSHABLE STOOL IN YOUR TOILET, ONLY TO TELL YOU HOW HE CAN'T FIX THE ANTENNA TODAY AS HIS DAY IS DONE AND DOESN'T GET PAID FOR OVERTIME AND SAYS HE WILL CALL AROUND EARLY TOMORROW MORNING, BUT TURNS UP AT 4PM AGAIN SMELLING OF CIGARETTES AND MCDONALDS ONLY TO DRAMATICALLY FALL FROM A LADDER WHILE FIXING YOUR ANTENNA ON THE ROOF BECAUSE HE WAS TRYING TO EAT HIS MCDONALDS HAPPY MEAL ON YOUR ROOFTOP.

So yeah, i'm happy to be back watching cable again.

My goal here: to play stuff from a hdd that's connected to my PC on my t95z box with kodi through ethernet LAN.

First of all, I had some success playing stuff through wifi from the hdd that's hooked up to my PC but I want to be able to do it through ethernet because I don't want to be reliant on needing internet to play stuff I already own and I don't want to connect this hdd to the t95z box through usb cuz it's a big hdd. And I'd also like to be able to wirelessly connect multiple hdds to this box in kodi through smb in the future, So yeahhh...

Has anyone been able to do it this method? I can't. I've spent hours and hours looking up tutorials and wikis. It doesn't seem to work. Is the ethernet bad on these boxes? Though I've had my t95z box for over a year, I've only ever used it for iptv with wifi up to now so I have no clue.

I'm running windows 7 on my PC. I'm not using a router with ethernet ports. I'm trying to connect directly from PC ethernet port to the t95z ethernet port. The content I'm trying to play is on my hdd externally connected to my PC. I've clicked to share whatever folders I want to everyone on my network on my PC. I'm doing this in windows smb mode on kodi on the box but I'm not running kodi on my PC. I did smb already successfully with wifi but not ethernet. It's slow, it lags a lot and can crash kodi. The t95z box does not detect my ethernet cable automatically but I was able to connect it manually after setting the ip address on my PC of the LAN adapter to a custom ip address in internet protocol version ipv4 in network adapter settings and set it accordingly on the t95z box in network, ethernet, ip settings, static and the rest.

However, even though there is a new symbol beside the time where the wifi symbol was, now showing 2 devices connecting, i can't get my PC to connect with my box in kodi in smb mode. I get dumb errors codes that feel like a huge middle finger... ''connection refused''. I'm aware that in smb mode you're supposed to type in either diskstation or your ip address of your PC. But neither work for me.

Is there any solution to this problem? Anyone else able to play their content on their PCs through LAN on this box? Does LAN suck on these boxes?

    Thanks
