Recently I created a thread for android ARPG recommendations, as a way to have an on-going thread for reference when people are looking for that kind of thing. I decided to start another one for match-type games, since that seems to be another oft-seen request around these parts. I am getting these two out of the way first because I can only imagine that the comments would be filled with their names if I had left them out. The long and short of it is these two games are hugely popular but have never really scratched my itch for whatever reason. I think it's the emphasis on timers and city-upgrading that throws me off. That said, people seem to really like them and get a lot of playtime out of them(years, even) so they definitely deserve to be on this list. Manages to be both satisfying in the ways that match games are, while also sprinkling in a few solid twists to the genre's mechanics. The characters you are matching will either activate a ranged attack, or a melee attack. Every level has you clearing enemies and other obstructions, and there's a good level of strategy with the bosses as well. It's F2P so there's a good amount of unlocking to do, but so far I haven't seen any timed-chests which had me breathe a sigh of relief. There is also daily/weekly quests to complete, and your cat army is upgradable, so lots to dig into. Really enjoying this one so far. Like most games of this ilk, chain enough of them and you get bonuses, chain bonuses and you get fireworks that seek etc. etc. What I've been liking about it, is the collecting angle - you get cards with "artifacts" on them and when you complete sets you get xp/coins etc. to level up. You find a LOT of doubles, but the best part is you can sell your doubles to get more xp or coins so it doesn't always feel like you're finding the same useless cards over and over. You'll end up 'buying' extra moves or some items with coins but not to the point where it feels manipulative and the game gives you a few items every ten levels or so. I think the only negative I had to say about this game was I wanted to wipe my progress and start all over again, and it seemed like you can't do that unless you contact support, which seemed odd to me. Opinions on Eve: Echoes open beta Posted: 02 Dec 2019 02:38 AM PST I downloaded and played Eve Echoes for about two hours now. I like it. So far so good. Overall i'd say it is what Second Galaxy should have been. I never played the Original Eve Online, I know it is supposed to be this complex sandbox with a ton of skills. I can for sure say that Eve Echoes also has a ton of skills. I could queue five for now and I got preeeetty overwhelmed by the choices. Character creation is detailed. Why is there a stigma about gaming on smartphones? Posted: 01 Dec 2019 04:40 PM PST I am a member of a lot of gaming groups on Facebook and we discuss games like Grand Theft Auto series, Final Fantasy, etc. I always get deep into discussions but then inevitably someone will ask me what PC or console I game on. I tell them a smartphone and they immediately dismiss me, they say something like "that's not for REAL gamers!" or "real gamers only play on PC/XBOX/PlayStation". Apparently even though I am playing the exact same game they are, because I am playing on a smartphone rather than a console I am not a real gamer! WTF! Has anyone else got this attitude?
