| Posted: 20 Dec 2019 07:14 PM PST I took a job at a small engineering company that is often times asked by clients to handle software projects as well. Even though at the time they were not equipped to take on these projects but did anyways relying on a few of the mechanical/electrical engineer's ability in python and vanilla JS. However in the spring it became clear to my boss that they needed a pure software guy like me who is full stack for this most recent project that they are working on so they hired me. Now my boss is an engineer/physicist with no background at all in software development outside any peripheral knowledge he has picked up on from clients and subordinates from previous projects. However he has a clear and distinct UI in mind with specific functionality. I'm covered by comprehensive NDA's so I can't get into it exactly, but he isn't satisfied with any of the android framework's built in UI components like recyclerview+cardview, and he hasn't liked my attempts at extending functionality from already existing UI components. Basically to do what he wants I'm going to have to create a very complicated and lengthy custom layout with a few custom widget's.On top of that I need to make sure it is properly threaded and that latency from the cloud is considered in the end users experience to prevent jittery or nonloading UI. However he has no visibility to that difficulty and to him it's just code that is similiar to the code I write everyday without any issues and so in meetings it's been getting a little heated. As he tries to point out why he thinks it's easy ("WEll you are already drawing rectangles there you just need more here and there and they need to do XYZ"). So I was hoping for some advice to explain in simple terms why creating a custom layout will be difficult and time consuming please! [link] [comments] | ||

| When should I expect my payments to arrive ? Posted: 21 Dec 2019 06:07 AM PST Hi devs, Today Admob sent me my first payment ever, They said I should wait for it to arrive for 5 business days, if it didnt then I should contact my bank for more details. I am from north africa and I get paid in EURO tho it's not the official currency here in my country obviously. So I would love to hear from you guys, Can you give an approximate time range for the payments to arrive based on your experiences, is there any possibility that I can encounter some issues .. etc. Thank you all [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 21 Dec 2019 01:35 AM PST Anyone noticed that even with do not disturb mode ON Yahoo's notifications still have vibration and sound, how ? I've searched for some stack overflow answers, nothing helped. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 21 Dec 2019 07:12 AM PST Is anyone using RenderScript? I am looking to implement mapping kernel with multiple input allocations, but all I found online were just 2 allocations, I wanted to dynamically change number of input allocations(up to 100 input allocations). [link] [comments] | ||
| Should I submit updates before app is published? Posted: 21 Dec 2019 06:00 AM PST I submitted an app to the Play Store recently and it has not yet been published. The "Pre-Launch" tests found that my app crashes on some devices. I added some fixes and uploaded the update. Will this cause the initial publishing of my app to be delayed? Basically, I'm wondering if it is ok to keep submitting bug fixes while they approve my app or if it will be faster if I just wait. [link] [comments] | ||
| Are you able to show promo video in Google Play Store mobile app? Posted: 21 Dec 2019 02:04 AM PST When we publish the link of YouTube Video to Play Store listing as in the screenshot https://i.imgur.com/gtcTF1V.png The video is shown without issue, in Desktop version of Google Play, opened by web browser However, the video is not shown in Google Play Store mobile app. We came across the following tips :-
Any idea why the video is not shown in Google Play Store mobile app? Thanks. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 21 Dec 2019 04:58 AM PST I have a decent knowledge of programming languages, Java, Python, C#, C++ etc. However, I never tried to create an app. My main goal is to create a video streaming app cross platform and while doing research I saw Flutter and React Native. Which should I pick based on my knowledge? Any good sites/ tutorials I can get myself started? [link] [comments] | ||

| App suspended: DMCA complaint. Posted: 21 Dec 2019 12:42 AM PST I woke up to an email this morning from Google telling me a DMCA complaint has been filed against one of my apps and its been suspended. My app is related to Diablo 2, not Diablo 3. I thought it might be because I used the name 'Diablo 2' in the app name, but there are plenty of other apps on the play store using both 'Diablo 2' and 'Diablo 3' in the app name. My app contains none of the items listed in the 'description of copyrighted work'. The only difference I can see between my app and similar apps on the Play Store is that my app is paid, whereas my competitors are ad supported. Has anyone experienced something similar? Were you able to get your app reinstated? [link] [comments] | ||
| I've built an app that displays ratings for shows on Pocket Casts Posted: 20 Dec 2019 09:24 AM PST I'm a big fan of Pocket Casts, but there's one thing I'm missing there - Seeing the iTunes rating and number of reviews. So I built an app that's using an AccessibilityService to do that. You can see it in action here and download it here. The source code is available on Github: https://github.com/grivos/PodRatings [link] [comments] | ||

| App ad disapproved for 'Misleading Content' Posted: 20 Dec 2019 10:23 AM PST OK, so despairing of ever seeing my app in organic search results, I decided I would have to resort to advertising to get anyone to ever see the thing, so I created a mobile app campaign, only to have its only ad rejected for the aforementioned reason There are two 'headline ideas': 'Music Notation' 'Free Composition App' and one 'description idea': 'Write Music on your phone!' Each one of these phrases is 100% literally true and accurately describes the function of the app. It will surprise no-one to learn that the email gave no indication which phrase was problematic, or indeed whether the problem was something else. Has anyone had anything similar, and how do you go about finding out what the problem is? Edit: Link to app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.philblandford.ascore [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 20 Dec 2019 01:35 PM PST Just seeking clarification. MotionLayout should primarily be used for gesture (mainly swipes) based animations focused around navigating through the app in a fluid and intuitive manner. Animations that are triggered by clicks are fine if that's the only purpose of the view being clicked since MotionLayout overrides any I also vaguely remember in a video or in some article where someone said MotionLayout can handle fragment transaction animations. Is that true? I couldn't find any examples of this. The only way I know to animate fragment transactions is via [link] [comments] | ||
| How come Action-Launcher can import shortcuts from other launchers (such as Nova), but others don't? Posted: 20 Dec 2019 03:52 PM PST I've recently tried some launchers, and noticed that just like a very long time ago, it seems it's still possible for launchers to import various settings (or at least shortcuts) from other launchers, making it easier to migrate and try out other launchers. One of those apps is Action Launcher. Somehow it got all shortcuts from Nova Launcher, without any required permission being asked to me. How could it be? What does it do to do it? And why don't other launchers (or at least those that I tried) do it too? Does it perhaps read some public data from content provider? [link] [comments] | ||
| How would you go about implementing this app idea? Posted: 20 Dec 2019 09:45 AM PST I am making this app to grow my Kotlin skills. The app will essentially fetch data from an API (thought about using retrofit with some Google API like Places), display the name, address & phone number associated with businesses in a specific industry close to you. The user will then be able to add these businesses to a favorites list for quick access. As a newer dev there are so many things to consider for libraries, API's and architecture. Could someone give me a rough idea of how you would want to implement this? Maybe the type of architecture you would use, libraries etc. [link] [comments] | ||
| Recreate wireless charging notification Posted: 20 Dec 2019 02:59 PM PST Basically the title. Where should I look in order to recreate this notification. Basically looking to do something simple like make new notifications pop up in the same style while wirelessly charging instead of the default notification you see. [link] [comments] |
