Disney+ not on play store for Mi Box?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2019 06:24 AM PST

My mi box is up to date, yet Disney+ doesn't show up on the play store and the web play store says its incompatible. Mi box is stock, not rooted and Disney's site specifically says the Mi Box is supported. What gives?

Sony Android TV, Netflix audio issue

    Posted: 14 Nov 2019 07:29 AM PST

I have Sony x900f and lg soundbar 4.1 system, lg sk5r to be exact. Audio automatically plays on English 5.1 but it seems to sound better on without the 5.1. Is this normal?

I have to manually change it to English only all the time. Is there a work around for this?

No 5.1 sound on Netflix & Amazon Prime Video with my Mi Box S

    Posted: 14 Nov 2019 02:05 AM PST

    Hey guys,

I have a setup around a simple HDMI + optical switch, the mi box with my consoles are plugued in so I can output HDMI video to a videoprojector and 5.1 sound with optical to a Z906 speaker system.

Netflix & Prime Video can output 5.1 DTS / DD with my PS4 in the same setup.

Kodi & VLC can do the same on the Mi Box S once I enabled the passtrough setting.

But with Amazon Prime Video and Netflix I get no sound at all on 5.1 videos ( stereo works fine though ), I usually get a led lighting up when sound is coming to my speakers but no light at all with 5.1 content on Netflix/Amazon.

In the video settings of my Mi Box I enabled the PCM setting on Auto, the DTS setting on 30% and the other one on LINE.

Any idea why my setup won't work with Netflix & Amazon Prime Video ?

    Thanks

No security updates for AndroidTV (Sony)

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 02:02 PM PST

In January this year I bought a Sony TV. A KD-60XF8305, to be precise. Some time after the purchase I installed the update to Android 8.0. This update had the Android security patch level "1 November 2018". And it remained on that patch level since then.

Since November last year, there were official Android security updates every single month and a lot of them had pretty severe issues fixed. This is something that I consider to be pretty much unacceptable on a device that is connected to the Internet at all times. (And while it is not an issue for me: A lot of people have this thing in the same Wifi where all the guests of the house connect to with their malware-filled mobile phones...) A lot of said issues are well known as of know and are known to be exploited.

Also this is a 2018 model year and not an old device. I am pretty much speechless at this point...

    Sony AndroidTV headphone out quality?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2019 05:03 AM PST

    Hi guys,

I hope this question is ok to post here, since it brushes the topic of AndroidTV only in one small detail, but here goes:

So I have this Sony KD-55XG8505 (Specs).

This TV is used in conjunction with these loudspeakers (Nubert nuPro A-10). <- via the TVs headphone out.

The thing is, before I had the TV, I used the loudspeakers on my laptop via USB, which was awesome.

Now AndroidTV seems to not support those loudspeakers via USB, which is sad.

The question now is (since I don't really want to use the headphone out, subjectively it sounds worse than the USB):

can I use the digital optical audio out of the TV and use a digital-to-analog converter to transmit the audio to the loudspeakers? Would it sound better than the headphone out?

Or should I use a bluetooth transmitter?

Or should I stay with headphone out? :(

The loudspeakers do not have a remote or similar. They do both have a volume knob but it would be a pain to control them that way, since I would have to turn the knob on either loudspeaker.

I am really looking forward to your feedback, thanks.

Edit: sorry about the manual for the loudspeakers being German, I couldn't find an English one.

Sony X900F: Frame skipping/lag in VLC

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 08:40 PM PST

Frame skip/lag with increased playback speed

Using a Sony X900F Android TV with latest Android version of VLC.

When playing a remote file in VLC, if I increase the playback speed by 5%, every 1.5 seconds a frame skips/lags. If I go to 10% increase speed, every 1.25 seconds or so there is a skip.

Any idea why this might be happening? I am wired networked, tried hardware encoding on and off.

    Welcome to all ideas!

Muffled Audio Android TV, Sounds Perfect Fire TV

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 09:47 PM PST

I have a Xiaomi S Android TV and a Firestick 4k. AVR is a non 4k Yamaha so the devices are connected to the TV and optical out to the AVR so I can get 4k.

I've noticed that on the Android TV everything except Netflix sounds muffled. When I go to the Firestick 4k everything sounds perfect.

I went and bought a 2019 Shield Pro and thought this would solve the issues as it's a much higher end device, but I keep getting the same issues.

Every once in a while if I restart the TV and either of the Android TV boxes it will work for good for a bit, but then start sounding muffled soon enough. Again, on the Firestick 4k it sounds perfect.

I can't find anything at all on the internet to diagnose this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Rick

Anyone gotten Apple TV Plus on Android TV working? I almost did :(

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 05:28 PM PST

So I got the Apple TV app working on my TV, but it requires the Amazon App store. Alright, I downloaded the amazon app store for Android. After doing this it then tells me I don't own this app... wtf. This is so incredibly frustrating, because the app is working and I can see everything in the background, but all of the amazon crap is preventing me from using it. Does anyone know of any work arounds to get Apple TV working on Android TV? Im tempted to go down the Firestick route since you can get Google Play services working on them.

    Powering on

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 10:30 AM PST

What's the pro's about the slow startup? I thought the TV needed that 30-60 seconds to start up but after a year with the TV I found out I could change to instant power on in the setting. Anyone know why it is like this?

Finding Android TV version of app (outside of region)

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 02:58 PM PST

I'm trying to find where to download specifically android TV version of an app. I know there's an android TV version of the app, which is NRK TV (Norway), but I can't download it as I'm in the UK. I thought maybe id be able to filter on apkpure or similar by versions specifically compatible with Android TV but can't seem to do it, I just end up with the normal android version which does work, but doesn't display menus properly or work well with the remote.

    Any ideas?

Cheap (but decent) Android TV box with Ethernet port?

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 01:39 PM PST

I'm looking to offer an Android TV box to my step family for Christmas, to share with them my movie library (stored/streamed and transcoded through Google Drive, using Kodi as frontend and a multiuser MySQL database). In that regard, I know the Shield TV is the way to go, but don't have a spare 160€/220€ (mini/2019 rev respectively) to spend in that regard (and I personally use the 2017 rev).

They have a crappy WiFi signal in their home, but they have HomePlugs to fix this issue, which is why I'm looking for and an Android TV box that has Ethernet to get the stream flowing

It won't have to play 4K HDR content @ 60MB/s or anything like that, has their broadband isn't powerful enough anyway (they're countryside in a "not-so-well" covered area), so they'll transcode everything down to their very limited 8Mbps broadband. I know it's so awful it hurts my eyes, but I actually gave it a go (through WiFi in their best covered area) and 1080p Google Drive transcoded video seamed to play just fine, and they also watch Netflix/WebTV...

So I need a TV Box where I can install Kodi/Netflix/Molotov.tv with an Ethernet port that just handles 1080p (4K/HDR would be a plus, but not required) and that's pretty much it!

Oh yeah... If the price could be max 60€ that would be great, and I don't mind buying them from China or whatever else (as long as I receive it before Christmas though, in France)

    Thanks!
