Chromecast w/ GTV not displaying 4K on Disney+

    Hello! First time posting here!
I just wanted to see if any of you had this same problem!

I have a Chromecast with GTV hooked up to my SDR 4K TV and everything works great, Netflix, Youtube, Primevideo plasy 4K without issue, but on Dinsey+ I only see the HD available tag and none of the content plays in 4K.

I have tried restarting the device, deleted the cache, reinstalled the app and also called D+ Service to have them tell me my device is not supported!!!.

I would love if you could help me with this.

    Thank you!

    ONN Stick Soundless?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2022 12:20 PM PDT

I was thoroughly enjoying my change from a FS to an ONN stick. But suddenly, out of nowhere, no settings changes, the sound stopped. Long ago I installed custom launcher but the stick and the launcher worked fine until yesterday. Any ideas?

Oh! It does still make sounds when selecting buttons on the screen so no issue with the TV.

Alternative to Fire TV with less software bloat, ads etc?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2022 05:01 AM PDT

Looking to upgrade from my FireStick.

Rather tired of Amazon forcing their ads down my throat and disabling customs launchers.
I just need sideloading and something that isn't intrusive with its ads, visual updates & bloat ware.

    Stream from harddrive

    Posted: 07 Apr 2022 01:09 PM PDT

    Hi,

I have a hard drive full of films, currently using my laptop hooked up to the TV through HDMI. What would be the best Android device to connect my hard drive to and stream to my tv, using HDMI?

Nvidia Shield might be too powerful for this task, as this would be its only use. On the other hand, the built-in Plex server is great for this. Is the Xiaomi a good alternative?

4k not necessary, I just want a smooth 1080p experience.

    Thanks.

How do you like to use your ATV/GTV box?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2022 04:44 AM PDT

    Hey peeps,

New to the ATV/GTV scene and just got myself a 4k Walmart Onn TV Box. Must say, I'm super impressed - for $20 it's like having my phone hooked up to the TV but with a slick remote replacing the aged-out multi-buttoned mess that came with the LG TV.

What I was really after was a wireless way to hook my computer up to the tv primarily for the purpose of videos/entertainment. I actually started on my RPi4 with Steam Link doing desktop Mirroring. It worked, but I'm not sure my XPS13 is the best streamer and the setup is not v plug n' play.

I'm not a big Netflix/Prime/Streaming app guy and I mostly just do things the old fashioned way by downloading first. If there were a Spotify-like streaming service that had everything I'd prob signup to that, but as it is I don't see the point in subscribing to things that have films/tv I don't want to watch...

Anyways, I've played with a few different ways of interacting. Started with 'casting' videos: mostly tabs and video files. I've found that video is a bit hit and miss. Subtitles can be troublesome and only two apps I've tried have been reliable (Videostream/Android MX Player). I'd say this is a fairly stable option but performance is not 100%, you still get a little occasional frameskip and configuration options are minimal.

Then I realised I could install media apps. So I got bloomberg, al jazeera, France24 and DW, all of those work amazing! I used to pay $50/month to get access to those channels and now I have them all for free! I literally have cable tv delivered to my house wirelessly (over 4g/lte)!

So given this thing is basically a cheap android phone with HDMI hookups, I thought I'd try and setup proper networking. Got network shares on my computer, an ext hdd sticking out of my router and wow. Just, wow.

Works right off the bat with both VLC and MX Player. Of course setting up SMB can be a pain, but once you get it going there's really nothing that beats it as far as the above options are concerned. Running things over the network like this seems to provide an almost fool-proof way to ensure compatibility with all my files, while importantly delivering optimal performance and configurability. What I essentially wanted was desktop-level controls on my tv but in a nice remote friendly format, and this is it.

    Next step Kodi,..

So that's my journey so far. Local Network seems to be the way to go, using it basically like a satellite/cable TV box.

Have you guys come to similar conclusions? What have your journeys been like?

    Dolby Vision from external HDD?!

    Posted: 07 Apr 2022 07:27 AM PDT

    Heyy!

I am wondering if there is any way to play dolby vision content from my external hdd on my Hitachi 50HAL7351 4K android tv?

I know that my TV does support Dolby Vision and HDR. But I do wonder if there is some way to either play a Dolby Vision MP4 or Dolby Vision MKV file on my TV, in a media player like VLC or Nova video player?!

I have played a Dolby Vision MKV file before in Nova video player, and it played normally, but I can't know if that movie really showed me true Dolby Vision. Some media players don't have support for it yet and automatically converts Dolby Vision to HDR10, and I have been searching for a solid answer to this mess but every site says a different thing.

So if Dolby Vision does work in some media player, does it make a difference then if it is a Dolby Vision MKV or a MP4?

If you have an answer I would be very thankful!

Recent Home Update Broke my Remote Function on TCL R646

    Posted: 07 Apr 2022 06:52 AM PDT

I discovered yesterday my Home app was updated to the latest. I also noticed I no longer have the remote function available for my TCL R646 TV. Tried removing the TV device and readd but now I can't find the TV. I have cleared cache and data on the chromecast built-in app on the TV and restarted. Still no TV is found to add back to Home app.

    Anybody come acoss this?
