my new phone can't run 1080p?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2022 09:15 AM PDT

Was hoping you guys could help: I've got this new budget phone today, the xiaomi redmi 9a. It has pretty decent specs actually, but for some reason is lagging out with youtube videos, and films/series too (both in VLC and MX), at 1080p. I've only installed some apps, haven't done much else. Does anyone know what things might be going wrong here? I can't imagine it's the hardware.. why equip a phone with a 1080p screen if it can't even run that quality out of the box right?

Expanding Play’s Target Level API Requirements to Strengthen User Security - Google strikes again

    Posted: 06 Apr 2022 12:46 PM PDT

    https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2022/04/expanding-plays-target-level-api-requirements-to-strengthen-user-security.html

This new policy is awful. All developers should update their apps every year even though the app doesn't need it. And all of this just to increase the API level. Developers with a lot of apps will have trouble doing this for every app one by one.For the users this is also bad. Let's say I'm buying a new phone with latest version of Android. I can download only apps updated in the last two years. What? This makes the play store very limited. I know the updated apps are more secure and have modern design and stuff but this is my choice. I decide what I have on my phone.

I think this policy is very bad - as a developer and as a user I really hate it.

Issue with exit shared transition from detail fragment back to recycler view fragment

    Posted: 07 Apr 2022 12:55 AM PDT

    Hey,

Could someone help me with return transition from detail view back to recyclerView? I'm not sure why my startPostponedEneterTransition calls before all those images are loaded and that's why the return transition does not work properly I have defined the postponing like this in my onViewCreated

    postponeEnterTransition() view.doOnPreDraw { Log.d("TAG", "Start postpone") startPostponedEnterTransition() }

However, my recyclerView's adapter bind function modifies transition name after that "startPostponedEnterTransition is called and that's why the transition fails

    fun bind(character: Character) { binding.apply { character.also { (id, name, image, gender,liked) -> Log.d("TAG", image) imageView.apply { load(image, fragment) transitionName = "$id-$image" } } } }

How Native Android teams perform compared to React Native, Flutter, and other mobile teams

How Native Android teams perform compared to React Native, Flutter, and other mobile teams

Help me help you, by filling out MODAS, the world's first Mobile DevOps Performance, Productivity, and Maturity Assessment. Today, hundreds of mobile teams have already filled out this survey that asks questions around creating, testing, releasing, monitoring, and collaborating within mobile teams.

We're producing a report that details benchmarks for performance, correlating that to the adoption of specific practices and technology. This means that, as part of the report, we'll compare teams develop natively for Android to teams using Flutter, React Native, Xamarin, and other cross-platform frameworks.

the current split in technology used by survey respondents

Filling it out will take you 5-10 minutes, and we'll share the report with you as soon it's done. Find the survey here

Note that Bitrise (where I'm VP of Growth) hosts the survey, but are doing so because we want to understand (and share) what mobile performance and best practices look like across the industry. Your details aren't used for anything but sending you the report (if you want it)

some tips for developing an android BLE app

    Posted: 07 Apr 2022 12:39 AM PDT

    Hello Reddit,

do you know a way (a technology) that can allow me, from an android app. to retrieve hid entries from a usb keyboard connected to an android phone and then send it to a pc via bluetooth LE. I'm not looking for an app that already does it, but a way to develop this app. I am a full stack javascript dev. Would Ionic or react allow me to do this?

Developer account removed and I need permission to submit an appeal

    Posted: 06 Apr 2022 07:27 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

So, my developer account was removed and I have no idea why. Also, no way to appeal or restore it.

I'll give you a little context. 6 years ago, I created a developer account on Google Play and uploaded my first app, it was initially a words game ( trivia ), I made sure everything is perfect in terms of copyrights, graphics ..etc. I even learned Adobe illustrator to make my own stuff, the app took off and I created multiple apps after that with similar concept with the same codebase. However, they were completly different in terms of design, interface and even the app idea. Since I was building everything myself from scratch it took me couple of years to upload around 8 apps total. In some point around 3 years ago I got commited with a company and had a lot of work that I completely forgot about this account until this year when I needed to create an app for a personal project, when I tried to access my old account I got the following screen: https://i.imgur.com/I8Zr23g.jpg

As you can see, it's telling me that I need permission to make an appeal ( the appeal button is not clickable ). Note that this is the main account.

When I reached out to " Google Play Developer Support team" they responded with an automated message with couple of links which evantually leadsto the same page. I responded and they gave me another link https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/troubleshooter/2993242?visit_id=637841766156250626-3633144862&rd=1

I followed the steps and got redirected again to the same page. I don't feel that they are trying to help and I have no idea why my account was removed ( probably due to inactivity? )

I checked my emails and couldn't find a notice or anything, I may have possibly removed the message by mistake if it was sent long ago.

I have used every possible link that Google provides, but they're taking me nowhere, I either end up on the same page, or get some automated responses with the same links over and over.

Could you please help me understand why the account was removed and how to restore it. Again, I have nothing in the emails that could give me an idea.

    Thanks in advance!

How to view Debugging info from play store app

    Posted: 06 Apr 2022 10:57 AM PDT

I am debugging an issue that only occurs if I download the app from the Play Store. The app recently stopped working even though we have not updated it in several months. I can replicate the issue by downloading the app on the emulator but can not replicate the issue using a locally built APK file. When I navigate to chrome://inspect/#devices, I can see the emulator and inspect the app, but I can't inspect the application if I downloaded it from the app store.

Is there any way I can view the console logs, network tab, etc., of an app downloaded from the google play store?

    Single Adapter 'Pattern'?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2022 06:53 AM PDT

    Hello guys,

In my company's app we are facing something I thought I would never have to. I'll try to explain it as good as I can. Sorry in advance.

Imagine you have to do a fully dynamic fragment where you can have multiple views, multiple lists(horizontal and vertical) in the same fragment depending on your API response (like our backend decides everything UI related). Or imagine you have like 3 api calls where you get 3 lists of differents models, and to complex it even more you have to show those 3 lists with different views between them.

"Yo! That's almost like an hybrid app (use a webview instead)..." yeah..

Well.. I'm not gonna explain what you get if you combine multiple vertical recyclerView inside a NestedScrollView or ScrollView as most of you already know.

Solution is simple, use an adapter with multiple view types. FINE, but...

Now, I'd like to know if some of you have faced this before and what do you think about the idea of making a single adapter for most of your recyclers in order to keep it as clean and centralized as possible?

For those wondering "why you decided to do your app like that?" No choice..

    Anybody actually using Kover?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2022 12:42 PM PDT

Was idly replacing my app's JaCoCo with Kover to scope it out and the migration of the exclusions just wouldn't work. Googling ain't giving me good examples in a multimodule android project. With instrumentation tests'd be nice too but ehh. Don't know if this plugin is ready for the spotlight yet but it isn't at 1.0 I guess

How do some apps circumvent the Google Play Payments Policy (Section 2) from using Google Play Billing system ?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2022 06:38 AM PDT

I have referred the Google Play payments policy from: https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/9858738?hl=en

Let's say I want to build a service which would offer monthly membership to users to access videos. Because of the nature of my service, my android app would fall under section 2 (video content subscription). Thus, i would need to integrate my app with google play billing system and i cannot provide or even point to any other payments method.

However, many apps on google play store (notably Netflix, as it is similar to my hypothetical service) do not use google play billing system and have their own separate payment method (consequently saving some cut that would have to be given to google)

How does the aforementioned section not apply on them ? How is their app still listed on Google Play ? Does Google have the authority / right to remove their listing ?
