[ROOT] Another solution to the problem of not being able to install games and apps on Google Play

    Posted: 31 Mar 2022 11:28 AM PDT

    Hello everyone

I have a Mi 10t Pro with Android 12 (Xiaomi EU - MIUI 13) and a very serious problem, I have tried to download apps and games from the Google Play Store but I always get an error "A problem occurred while downloading, try again".

The error code that marks the system report is "-7", however, there is nothing on the internet that explains how to fix it.

So, I checked the store permissions and it turns out that the option to access internal system storage is not enabled, however I can't enable it because it appears blocked.

    Solution:

Apparently the Google permissions manager in MIUI 13 was bugged (I don't know why) but it caused Google Play Store to lose permission to access the internal storage, restricting access to apps that occupy the OBB section of the storage.

The solution was very simple and apparently is not anywhere else.

It is important to mention that for this the device must be rooted.

You need the Permission Manager X application in its Pro version (is the only version that allows you to change permissions on system applications).

I went to search for "Google Play Store" and change the write permissions on the system that was disabled, specifically the following:

    WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE

After it was enabled I went to Google Play Store and cleared the cache.

Finally I rebooted the device and was able to download all the apps I needed, even the storage permission bwhich appeared disabled (could not change) was now enabled.

And that's it, I hope this is a good alternative to the options that people have provided.

13 Ideas for Features in Android 13 from Simple to Massive.

    Posted: 31 Mar 2022 08:47 AM PDT

With the recent Android Versions it feels more and more like Google is making changes just for the sake of change and I get the impression that they have gotten rather complacent and add very arbitrary features to Android while many obvious requests by the community get ignored. Anyway here would be my top 13 requests for Android 13 - from super basic to bringing Android to a new level.

Also I know most of these will never make it into Android because Product Strategy, but a man can dream.

    1. Option to permanently pin the Gesture bar to the device's physical bottom, even in Landscape mode
    2. Support for Network Storage over webdav or smb out of the box with the stock files browser.
    3. Stacked widgets from iOS.
    4. Granular control of the Animation speed without needing developer options (0x, 0.1x, 0.3x, 0.5x, 0.8x, 1x, 1.5x...)
    5. Allow Material You theming to be turned off or on by an App by App basis
    6. Remove all the unnecessary restrictions from Material You. Allow any combination of wallpaper, primary color, secondary color,...
    7. More than 2 Apps in Window Multi Window (like in OneUI), Floating Windows and Multi window with the same App (2 instances of Chrome for example)
    8. Standardized way of handling icon packs and themes between OEMs, Launchers,... (not the 10 different implementations with Samsung's own theme store, Xiaomi's own, Oppo's own theme store and icon packs on the Play store which are all not compatible with each other)
    9. Allow a certain number of Apps to be permanently pinned in memory by the user (like on High End Samsung devices) where they will never be closed and always open instantly if the device has enough memory
    10. Allow any WearOS App or Watchface to be permanently placed as a widget on the homescreen or lockscreen (would be especially cool for foldables and their outside screens, plus this would lead to more exposure for WearOS Apps).
    11. Flip the script with Apps running in the Background. Apps wanting to run in the Background need to ask for permission when launched for the first time (like File Access, Location access,...).
    12. Make Desktop mode a standard feature for all Android Devices with HDMI out support, plus better APIs for developers to take Advantage of this mode. If this ever happens, add a TV mode as well where the phone will display the Android TV Version of the Apps
    13. Open up the quick settings and notifications area for custom implementations by 3rd party launchers.

Bonus for Core System Apps that aren't strictly part of AOSP :

    • rework Chrome (general Design overhaul, plugin support, option for a bottom address bar, better Landscape mode like in Maps where the address floats on one side for example)
    • Better search within Google Play (Search for Apps with Cross-device-syncing, Apps without iAPs, Apps that work offline, Apps without Ads, Gamepad Support...)
    • Any Google App with Darkmode should use true #fff OLED black when the device is in darkmode and has the battery saver turned on.
    • Make Android Auto waaaay less restrictive and allow the use of any App when the car is parked (Watch Youtube, Browse with Chrome, play a game with XCloud…).
    • Make an own App for Google's built in Password manager.
