Any good, real RPGs? Especially with freeform character development.

    Posted: 13 Mar 2022 01:09 AM PST

I am not a casual gamer, but my left hand doesn't work well due to a stroke, so I have mostly been limited to playing mobile games. I game on my brother's PC when I can, but he's a self taught programmer, so it's not free very often. I'm fighting to get disability, so I don't have money to throw at gaming, but I can occasionally scrounge up a dollar or two if something is a great deal. All that said, I get very bored with the typical mobile gaming fare.

I am looking for good, real RPGs, preferably with either turn based encounters or combat that can be handled one handed.

I like games that allow for freeform character development (a la Elder Scrolls, D&D, etc.) of the main character, but also games that have very good defined development, especially if it's a varied party (a la Final Fantasy (7, 9, 10, 13), Tales games, etc).

Another big selling point for me is character customization, which can tie into character development as well. If I can pick my character's species, background, class, looks, gender, etc that's huge, as long as the game doesn't suffer for it. If every major item actually shows up on the character and has distinct looks, that's even better, but that's asking a lot for a mobile game or port.

I'm thinking along the lines of Final Fantasy 1, but more modern and in depth. You could create your whole party in that one. Maybe mash it together with the likes of Elder Scrolls or Dragon's Dogma.

I'm not a big fan of pure rogue-likes, but if it allows for some amount of continuing advancement, then I can be intrigued. I love open worlds, but anything that isn't linear is great. I like good stories, so some linear choke points are to be expected.

I guess I should elaborate on what I consider real RPGs. Old school JRPGS, CRPGS, games based on Table Top RPGs, open world RPGs (like Elder Scrolls) also referred to as modern Western RPGs by some, Tactical RPGs (FF Tactics, Fire Emblem, Ogre Battle), and to a lesser degree ARPGs (Diablo, Sacred, Titan Quest, Souls games, etc). I don't consider collectible card games, collectible character games, gotcha games, etc to be real RPGs.

I know that I am pretty choosey, but I have been through so many mobile games that I just want to throw my phone sometimes. If a game requires a purchase, I prefer to buy it upfront instead of as an IAP upgrade, but I am open to any free or single payment options. I prefer free or under $5, but I'll find a way to save up if it's a really amazing game.

Edit: I just dug through my entire library of old apps on my Google account and failed to find a game that I have played before. It probably came out around the same time as the original Doom&Destiny, in fact, I think I picked it up because Doom&Destiny was still in development. You could select your party members to start and you could hire, for progressively more, additional characters to switch in and out at town. The negative was that the battle sprites were hand drawn and not great. I don't know if it was improved since then or not. There were several classes to pick for characters, like 8 or 10. But that's kinda the vein of game that I am in the mood for. Also, nostalgia moment when I saw Andor's Trail in my list, was fairly early in development last I played that one.

    F2P JRPGs with Exploration?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2022 04:27 AM PDT

    Hi all

I played a number of Japanese RPGs that are offered for free (gacha type), the majority seem to be very minimal when it comes to exploring dungeons and towns. But there are a few that do offer exploration like Another Eden, as well as the upcoming Octopath Traveler game. My question is, what other games offer that? I've tried FF Brave Exvius but the exploration seems very limited, it's mostly focused on battles

    Need help finding a game

    Posted: 13 Mar 2022 07:37 AM PDT

It's a offline, ww1 themed, low poly, sandbox, fps with sort of poorly made hud but it gave the player full control of anything, like blow that house with an anti-tank rifle.

can someone help me find this semi old mobile game

    Posted: 12 Mar 2022 10:44 PM PST

All I know is it was a 2d fighting game where you played with your screen horizontal. The main character was some sort of prince i think and he used ice + fire attacks and i believe he used dual swords. you had a lineup of different characters and you could summon more with like tickets or something. i remember there being hot springs but idk what they were for and you would fight different bosses and go through the storyline with different characters you had summoned. The main character wore this green and white coat thing and had black hair. please help me find this game

Can you recommend some games with health regeneration?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2022 03:18 AM PDT

I don't mean the ones where you have to wait to refill hearts after you lose.

I mean like where you get hurt during a fight or an event and can wait it out in real time (like, in a couple of seconds).

Do you know any games like this? Thanks.

[REQUEST] Are there any notable Minesweeper Variations on android?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2022 01:53 AM PST

I really love and keep coming back to minesweeper as it was one of the first games I played obsessively on my father's pc when I was a child, causing many long discussions about screen time and appropriate use...

I've been using minesweeper a lot as a coding example for tutorials and while teaching coding to friends and colleagues and while working on my latest article (performance optimisation when rendering large amounts of grid cells in react) I came up with a neat idea for a minesweeper variation.

But I'm not here to advertise that. The whole project made me wonder... Are there any cool games for android based in minesweeper that are not simply a re-skin or different theme but actually introduce new game mechanics, game modes and so on?

Base mechanics * large grid * find hidden bombs * clues are only the counters when you hit empty cells

Anything of these variations (as an example) * extra lives
    * skills / boosters
    * special tiles that are not [empty/number/bomb] * NPCs * story * player character / movement ...

    You get the gist.

AFAIK the general idea behind minesweeper is not copyrighted (the game mechanic) while all art (😂) , assets and accompanying texts and so on ARE protected by copyright.

So... Any minesweeper games out there that bring something new to the table?

Findings and suggestions so far: * DemonCrawl (minesweeper roguelike) * Mastermine (minesweeper on a cube) * Globesweeper (minesweeper on a globe)

Anyone knows the name of this GTA-like game?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2022 06:23 AM PDT

I played this game a few years ago which was kinda like GTA chinatown wars, with the top-down view, racing through the streets with stolen vehicles, using all sorts of weapons etc. There was a gorilla you could unlock as a vehicle after a certain point. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the game. Anyone knows?

Request: i forgot the name of a game

    Posted: 13 Mar 2022 05:31 AM PDT

Its a 2D game similar to the game "army of darkness defense" where you control your character, and your troops come from the left and fight the enemys on the right. It was asian themed with samurai and other asian content. I cant find it anymore or remember the name!

It's a battle royale with sort of puppet bears(?). You have weapons like spears, greatswords, bows, daggers and boomerangs. There's also utilities like a bear trap, glue gun and a bomb.
