Google assistant activates with earbuds only when screen is on. Posted: 07 Jun 2021 05:19 PM PDT Moto G Power (2020), Android 11 Galaxy Buds+
Using the earbud activation button doesn't work when the screen is locked. I get a notification "use the google assistant with a headset", but tapping on it brings up the assistant waiting for me to speak. It happens every time and I can never use the assistant when the screen is off. [link] [comments] |
Galaxy S20 Ultra, no UI 3.1 update yet Posted: 07 Jun 2021 01:25 PM PDT I have the Galaxy S20 Ultra with Android 11 and still haven't gotten the 3.1 update. I'm in the USA. My phone is technically AT&T but I unlocked it so I could stay on my TMoible plan Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Jun 2021 03:50 AM PDT This is a Galaxy a51. As soon as I got the phone back I knew the screen was different. I figured he just got a different but compatible screen. Now that I've had it for a couple of days, I've noticed some pretty serious issues. For one thing, the speaker is blown; anything above about 80% volume gives some nasty crackling distortion. The main thing, though, is the GPS doesn't work anymore. If I enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi assist, the phone knows where I am as long as I'm around other people, but the actual GPS by itself doesn't seem to work at all and frequently puts me 50 or 100 ft off a road that I'm on. Yesterday I went for a hike and I have two different hike tracks from the same trail, and the one from before I took the phone in just has me following the trail while the other one is jumping all over the place back and forth across the trail. It actually says I did 9.5 miles when I only did eight. The GPS function is hugely important to me as I work in different places every week on average all over the country and I don't know my way around everywhere. I know there's a unique Mac address, for example, associated with the phone, but I don't know how to get that from my carrier (visible). There's no visible serial number on the outside of the phone; I mean I can go into the settings and look at all the numbers in there, but where can I get the numbers from before? The original numbers of the phone? And can all of that be spoofed? I guess the most important question: is this crazy? Am I being paranoid? Did this guy just break the speaker and not hook up the GPS correctly or something? Today on my hike I'm going to carry a second phone that I happen to have access to for the next couple days and I'm going to track the route with both phones and see just how different they are. I also posted this to the no stupid questions subreddit. In retrospect that was probably a mistake. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Jun 2021 03:01 AM PDT We already know that 4 or 6 digit pin codes don't provide security even if your settings delete everything after some wrong guesses as there are devices that can bypass that and brute force guess your pin. Does anybody know if someone breaking into your phone would have trouble with longer pins. i. e 13 digits? Or is securing your phone by pin simply impossible? [link] [comments] |
Samsung S7. How do I access the past notification log (in case I accidentally clear them) Posted: 07 Jun 2021 06:12 PM PDT I have a Samsung S7 with Android 8.0.0 Sometimes I accidentally clear my notifications and want to check the log to see what I missed. Where do I find this log? Online instructions say: "Go to your Android home screen and tap the apps icon. Switch to the Widgets tab, tap and hold the 1×1 Settings Shortcut and place it on your your home screen. Now select "Notifications" from the available choices. Tap the settings icon that you have placed on the home screen and it will display the notification history in reverse chronological order." I don't have any "Settings Shortcut" or "Notifications" on my home screen Widget tab. When I tap/hold and select Widgets, at the top of the screen it says "Search for Widgets" and boxes labeled "Calendar, Chrome, Clock, Contacts, Device Maintenance, Drive, Email, Galaxy Essentials, Gmail, Google, Magnifier, Maps, Memo, Message, My Verizon, Samsung Health, SmartThings, Spotify, and Weather." Nothing about settings or notifications. If I go into my notification settings, it has options for "App Icon Badges" and then a list of all of my apps so I can turn on/off. Advanced just shows more app options. I just want to see a log of all of my previous notifications. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Jun 2021 05:34 PM PDT Are there any apps on the android platform, that will literally show and tell you when you are connected to an actual 5g network as opposed to everything being labeled as LTE? [link] [comments] |
Is there any way to set separate screen timeouts for usage while charging and not? Posted: 07 Jun 2021 05:33 PM PDT For example, I would like to set screen timeout while charging to five minutes, and while not charing to half a minute. Windows and Linux distributions had been having separate power settings for ages. Is there any way to do so on Android? [link] [comments] |
Installing twrp on xiaomi redmi note 8 pro Posted: 07 Jun 2021 04:42 PM PDT Hello! I got an Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro a while back and I want to replace the rom with something less bloated. I successfully installed twrp before but the original Android just corrupt on any occasion I installed it and all the roms just had no audio on speaker. At that moment I abandoned the idea. Since then I had some issues installing it back. I've taken every step as before but now he refuses to install my twrp. No errors received, nothing. It just shows the message that the recovery would have been put on the phone, but when I restart it it would be like before. Can anyone help me? After that what custom ROM should I try? Take me easy, I'm not very good with this stuff very much and I try to be as cooperative as possible and describe as much as possible throughout the process. [link] [comments] |

My phone saves every GIF I scroll over on Reddit Posted: 07 Jun 2021 04:33 PM PDT As mentioned, all GIF's I scroll over, even adds, gets saved on my phone, and sometimes photos as well. I can't see them in my gallery, but when I upload my photos to my computer, they show up. I haven't noticed this problem with any other apps. And I do not allow reddit to do anything. I have tried to delete and reinstall the app, and making a ".nomedia" file in the android folder, but it doesn't work. Do any of you have an idea to what I can do? [link] [comments] |

device screen unresponsive, power button does not work Posted: 07 Jun 2021 04:00 PM PDT this is on a galaxy tab s4. my screen suddenly became unresponsive. I tried to reboot it through the power button but screen unresponsive. I tried to hard reboot and holding the button does nothing. I know the button works because it turns the screen on and off fine and multiple presses brings up the camera. unfortunately I do not have a desktop or laptop computer available at this time so I can't remote in that way. right now my only solution is to run the battery out and restart it that way, but I'm dealing with it full battery on a lightly used device so it may take days. any idea what I can do here? Doubt about Scrcpy delay and resolution Posted: 07 Jun 2021 03:28 PM PDT |
Posted: 07 Jun 2021 03:20 PM PDT My lgk20 is running android 8.1.0. When i press the update now button, and run through the update cycle, which appears to be working normally, the about page still shows that it is version 8.1.0. I am losing my mind over this and have tried multiple times to update it. Is there a fix for this? [link] [comments] |
How to skip notification screen when powering phone on? Posted: 07 Jun 2021 07:38 AM PDT I have a moto g7 power. Even when it is unlocked, if I click the power button, it takes me to this notification screen that I have to swipe up on rather than the home screen first. Is there a way I can just go to the home screen? The fingerprint scanner will do that. I am partly asking because of it not working with android auto unless the device is powered on and not on that notification screen before connecting to the usb. [link] [comments] |
How to Transfer Old Phone Backup to New Phone Posted: 07 Jun 2021 03:06 PM PDT Hello all, I bought a new android phone yesterday and transferred everything over from my old phone to my new one. However, when I was done, I noticed that my old phone's backup was a week old and therefore, I am missing about a week's worth of text messages on my new phone. I went to my old phone and backed it up about an hour ago. I now see the most recent backup from today in my Google Drive on my new phone, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to merge/sync this backup into my new phone? Is there any way to do this without with restoring the new phone to the default settings and starting the whole setup process over? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Cannot restore a Google Drive backup to Samsung Galaxy s10e phone Posted: 07 Jun 2021 02:58 PM PDT Hello! I've been having an issue with my phone and I've basically run out of ideas for how to fix it, so I thought I'd ask here to see if people who are better with tech stuff than I am have any suggestions (also crossposted on a couple other similar subreddits). Basically, I changed the passcode to my Samsung Galaxy s10e, and then immediately forgot the new passcode the next time I tried to unlock my phone. I hadn't written it down (my first mistake, I know), and eventually the only way I could find to get my phone unlocked was to do a factory reset. I had a backup of my phone on my Google Drive account, so I thought it was fine. But I only found out after doing the reset that it won't let me restore the backup to my phone without the phone's original passcode. I tried my old passcode and the most plausible guesses I could think of for the new one, but I can't just keep guessing because apparently the backup will be automatically erased if I enter it wrong a few more times. And to the best of my knowledge, the backup can't be downloaded to any other device. I've already talked to customer support for both Google Drive and Samsung. No dice with either. I have full access to my Drive account, I just don't have the phone's passcode. I'm aware that this issue might not be fixable. But I had some old family photos on that phone that I don't want to lose, so I'd like to exhaust every option before I give up. Does anyone know of a way I could either a) restore the backup to my phone without the phone's original passcode, or b) salvage all or part of the backup to a different device? If so, it would be a lifesaver. tl;dr: I had to factory reset my phone because I couldn't remember the passcode. I have a backup on Google Drive, but can't restore it without entering the phone's passcode, which I obviously don't have. Does anyone have ideas for how I can either restore the backup to my phone or download it to a different device? [link] [comments] |

Fix a OnePlus 6 Soft Brick, no root yet Posted: 07 Jun 2021 02:38 PM PDT So my OnePlus 6 recently started bootlooping out of nowhere when I was in the middle of using Google maps. I haven't rooted or messed with internal files or anything so not sure why. I can get to recovery mode so I tried wiping all data and restarting but its still looping. I feel like I'll have to flash a custom ROM or something that will require root, but I can't enable USB debugging from settings as its totally soft bricked. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
HTC Desire 12+ problems (Android 8.0.0) Posted: 07 Jun 2021 02:02 PM PDT Hi! I'm coming to this subreddit for help with problems that just recently appeared on my HTC Desire 12 phone. These are the following problems: I have reseted my phone, left it alone, charged it. The phone had no such issues beforehand, however I can see that some settings changed in it due to the different date system, the touchpal keyboard not being used (which I changed) - could the problems be the result of an update? How to get apps back after logging in to Child Account on Android Posted: 07 Jun 2021 12:55 PM PDT The Device is Xiaomi Redmi 8, running on Android 9. Someone signed into a child's account on the device and now all the apps/app icons are missing. Only the Google App, Google Play Store, Phone (but not contacts) and Settings are available. Only the Child's account is visible on the device. Opening Apps menu in settings crashes the settings app. On installing a file manager, it appears the data in internal storage is untouched including the "Android" Folder. Will removing the child's account and logging in to the original account restore all previous apps or will they have to be reinstalled? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Jun 2021 12:52 PM PDT Just picked up a Pixel 4a running android version 11. Great phone for the money so far but missing one thing from my old Huwawei. Use whatsapp a lot and when I have an unread message now instead of a hard to miss red dot it's either green (not much use on the green whatsapp icon) or if I have whatsapp in a folder with my standard messenger it's black (not much use on a black background). Sure there's a setting somewhere to make it a more visible red but can't seem to find it. Any pointers appreciated [link] [comments] |
What can cause random text to be copied into clipboard Posted: 07 Jun 2021 12:37 PM PDT Hi, I was sharing a link in discord today and wanted to send it to 2 servers, I pasted it into first server without a problem. But once I switched to the second one I instead pasted a long text starting with "Want to see more of my content? Subscribe to my YT channel and follow me on Instagram..." and then social links for that person. I've never visited that YT channel nor have I seen any of its videos. I ran an antivirus scan on my phone and it found nothing, what could've caused this text to appear in my clipboard? I was sharing link to archive.org, so I imagine there shouldn't be any aggressive javascript that forces ads in your clipboard. My phone: Oneplus 5T running LineageOS [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to get the Samsung One UI Gesture Navigation on non-Samsung devices? Posted: 07 Jun 2021 12:26 PM PDT So I'm thinking of getting a new phone and I've been looking at some non-samsung phones, especially the Zenfone 8 as it's compact and has a good battery. However to my dismay it seems that the regular Android launcher and with it pretty much all other phones have different gesture navigations than Samsung OneUI does. OneUI basically has the 3 regular buttons for navigation, but instead of tapping on them you swipe from the bottom of the screen. Meanwhile It seems that Android 11 has it so you swipe from either side to go back (you would swipe up on the left or right side with OneUI). Now I really dislike this, I might be able to get used to it, but I'd rather get a phone that already has my prefered way. Can you change the behaviour to match OneUI or is there an app or something to do this? [link] [comments] |
Serious storage problem, help!!! Posted: 07 Jun 2021 12:15 PM PDT I use a Samsung Galaxy J6, the 32gb variant. The storage is full and I cannot see what is taking space. I clear cache data everyday but that only gets me about 100mb space which gets full after some hours again. I used a space analyser app to check what was taking memory only to see that I am not using more than 4gb personally but "OTHERS" is taking 17gb on my phone. How do I get access to OTHERS please???
