Currently have the Hisense U6G, great image quality, great sound, but the internal storage is only 4GB which gets full quickly especially with Kodi. Should I upgrade my internal storage to 1TB with an external hard drive or should I get a Nvidia Shield Pro with 16GB and faster processor for Kodi?

Setting to control android TV OS system volume directly?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 11:45 AM PST

Many devices running the android TV OS have options to control the TV volume (or sound system volume) directly, either through CEC or by setting the IR code for the respective device's volume (and power) control(s).

For example, ccwgtv does this, but ccwgtv also has an option to control the android TV OS system volume directly (the volume slider within the android TV OS) by choosing "chromecast" as the "change volume setting" option. Likewise for the walmart onn (askey) android tv box device (which is good because the onn has a low default system volume setting).

But some devices have no "change volume setting" anywhere within settings (tvsettings.apk), or have the option disabled, so there is no way to change the volume control setting to be that of controlling the android TV OS system volume directly, rather than controlling volume only on some external hardware.

My question; Is there some command or way to change this "change volume setting" either using adb or via shell (root or not) so that volume control will return to the android TV OS system volume control rather than though some external hardware's volume control? Not just change the level, but activate the volume slider so that the android TV OS system volume control can be used directly.

Live Japanese TV app from Play Store

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 11:41 PM PST

First off, I'm pretty confident this has already been asked before, but I'm not able to find a definitive answer. I have a basic Android Tv (TCL) and I was looking for an app to watch free live Japanese channels. I already have a couple of apps on my phone but they're not optimized for TVs, so even if I can sideload them, I can't manage to scroll through channels and other basic stuff. Can some of you guys point me to the right directions? If you need more specific info, leave a comment. Thanks.

Why is there no option to turn off system sounds for my Sharp Aquos Android TV? More importantly, can a multinational teach company issue this embarrassingly basic fix?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 03:46 PM PST

Literally every other device on earth; laptops, phones, TVs etc, have an option in the OS's sound menu to turn off system sounds. My Sharp Aquos TV has no such option so EVERY time I press a button, my TV fires an irritating bong sound at me.

    1) this is ridiculous 2) Anyone know of a way we can either turn them off or get sharp to issue a fix into an update?

    Panasonic TV hardly any apps

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 02:44 AM PST

I've got a relatively new Panasonic TV (2-3 years old). I'm trying to mirror a phone or laptop onto the tv but can't see any mirroring app available in the store. People online seem to suggest download a load of apps that aren't anywhere on my store. I've got the latest version installed and it's connected to wifi, so im a bit stumped. Would appreciate some advice if someone knows what's going on, thanks.

Reelgood not showing updates to content

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 02:21 PM PST

I'm hoping someone here can tell me what I'm doing wrong since I didn't get any traction at r/cordcutters.

I've started using ReelGood on my Nvidia Shield to collect my watchlist into a single place, and it's really almost everything that I could hope for! There are a few things that puzzle me, though, and I'd like some help to understand:

    1. When should I expect my Watch Next or Home screens to update? If a couple days pass and new episodes have been released, I don't see that get updated unless I force-close the app and restart it. Is that how it's supposed to work?
    2. On the iPad ReelGood app I can look at movies on my to-watch list that are not on my services, and click through to where I can rent/buy them. I don't see that on my Shield. What settings to I need to change to be able to find the movies I want to rent?
    3. Just recently I started having trouble with a couple shows. I added "In From the Cold" and "The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window" on Netflix, but neither show will appear in "My Shows" or any tracking list. I can search for the shows again, see them added to my lists, mark episodes as watched, and follow the links to Netflix to watch new episodes. But they only appear in search. Is this something that I'm doing wrong?

I've checked for OS and app updates, and I've deleted and reinstalled the ReelGood app just in case. But I'm still stuck on these.

Does anyone have any advice? Or is there a different place that would be more appropriate to ask these types of questions?

    Thanks!

    Dts-X/Atmos passthrough

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 12:24 PM PST

Are there any certified Android TV OS boxes that do both DTS and Dolby Digital passthrough (Atmos/DTS-X preferably)? I have a soundbar with an HDMI input that supports them).

Sony XBR65X850F did a software update..not has issue turning on

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 07:09 AM PST

Our Sony Bravia XBR65X850F was fine when it had Google TV. I like to not update the software often to prevent software breakage issues that can happen with updating. Well I decided to update and it updated to Android TV. It says android version 9 now. Before it had 8. After updating to 9, my tv shows "android tv" and has these colorful circle things spinning when you turn the tv on. Then it will either shut off and I have to turn it back on.

Other times when I go to watch tv, it wont turn on at all from the remote. I have to keep hitting the power button on the remote to get it to finally respond. It didnt do this before updating to android 9.

Whats going on? My tv is in warranty.

Any alternative app that can access HDMI inputs on my TV with Android TV?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 02:46 AM PST

So basically I bought a Chromecast with Google TV because even though my TV has Android TV, it was extremely slow.

The problem is that everything on the CCWGTV is a little zoomed in, and CCWGTV doesn't provide any options to shrink the screen like you can on the Nintendo Switch for example.

I have tried every possible display option on my TV, and it displayed properly only once after turning on "HDMI mode", however the next day it cropped the image again even if the HDMI mode was turned on.

So knowing that the way my TV reads these inputs is through a standard app (it's called Live TV, and is made by the board manufacturer), could there be an alternative app that actually works as it should?

TL;DR the question in the title

Android TV software and assistant issues

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 12:19 AM PST

I have a 3 year old TCL TV running on Android 9. Recently after some Google apps update, the Google assistant keeps having issue loading when the TV starts. Pressing the assistant button on the remote will result in "Something went wrong. Please try again later." It will load again after pressing the button again.

Another problem I am facing is the consistent "Android TV core services" and "TVKitServer" not responding alerts when the home screen loads.

Anyone else has the same issue or any work around for these issues?

Strong Leap-S1 TV Box First Impression(True Android Box)

    Posted: 18 Feb 2022 09:38 PM PST

I'm still in the process of figuring out the capability of this device. The first impression was superb. The performance is impressive as it is so fast the way you could imagine. It turns out your LED HD TV into a crystal clear display. Video streaming like Netflix is legit 4k thru Dolby digital + and DTS surround. Forget about Dolby Vision/Atmos & DTS TrueHD. I had my HDD loaded with 4k movies and it works flawlessly even on HD TV. This device has the ability to re-scaling and to downscale high formatted videos down to 1080p at 60 fps/59.74 Hz or depending on the maximum of your TV screen. And yet you can hardly recognize if you're watching 4k or HD movies when it comes to picture clarity.
"BUT here are the things you have to consider when planning to get this device "
*Playing high-resolution/graphic games is not a problem may be due to its DDR4 ram but due to its limited 2g/8g capability, I suggest you have to extend your memory first or you may end up memory shortage warning. Mine has an 8g flash drive connected into a 3.0 USB slot formatted as secondary storage and I have no problem playing race games like Asphalt 8, Zombie games, and billiards games without a lag with LAN connection at 50 Mbps net speed.
*Playing High-resolution movies is not a problem but make sure that it was formatted at AC-3 codecs to output surround sounds into 5.1 set up. I've observed that downloaded movies nowadays have a compression rate formatted into AAC's latest standards and if its the case, then you may end up hearing stereo mode in your home theater set up. The reason is most of the existing A/V receivers were adopting Blueray/DVD AC-3 codecs which is a Dolby/DTS Standard. In order for your AAC movies to output surround sounds, you have to convert them into AC-3 format with a suitable converter at your own discretion.

I am sighting this concern because at first, I thought, it was the Strong Leap S1 TV Box compatibility issue but lately I figure out that it was the audio/sound receiver that needs to adopt the latest standard.

How is there STILL no volume on the TNT app?

    Posted: 18 Feb 2022 05:33 PM PST

This issue has apparently been going on as far back as 2017. How is this possible?

I bought a Hisense U6G and initially the TNT app worked ok, but about a week in I lost all volume in the app. Did a little digging and see that a lot of people have this issue and there appears to be no real fix. Some said to make sure you're watching the west coast stream, but I get no audio on either east or west coast streams.

I'm stuck having to cast from my phone for now. Anyone have a working fix for this? Seems to be the only app I have with this issue.
