PSA for Onn 4K users: How to fix the low default volume after setting it up for the first time!

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 08:11 PM PST

I'm sure most people know about this since many of you are Android TV diehards but I thought I would make a post about it.

The issue: The Onn 4K box has an internal Android UI volume that is set at 50% when you first set it up, causing people to wonder why their TV sounds half as loud as it should be when playing content from the Onn 4K box.

    The solution:

    • Go to Settings > Set up remote buttons.

    • Go to Volume Control (under Remote buttons) and make sure it is set to auto instead of controlling your TV or other device.

    • Press the volume rocker on the remote control and raise the volume to 100% as shown on the onscreen volume display appearing on your screen as you raise the volume. Your Onn 4K box has an internal volume control and it was 50% by default and now you have 100% volume. Your Onn 4K box should now sound as loud as your other devices!

    • Make sure to set Volume Control back from Auto to your TV or other device so your volume rocker controls that device again.

This puzzled me for half an hour until I figured it out when I got this box last month so I thought I would help others with this post.

Chromecast w/GTV Live TV Tab... HD Homerun?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 04:29 PM PST

Anyone know if the Live TV Tab will ever replace Live Channels app with the ability to import OTA with a network tuner like the HD Homerun? I figure it may be coming due to Google hiding the Live Channels App. It would be nice.

Disney + and HBO max without sound when I use the Chromecast Google tv Bluetooth to headphones

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 09:14 AM PST

To be exact, I'm using a Sony xm4. And the "solution" of to go to option and deactivate sorround sound do nothing ... Sometimes if I start watching something with the tv speaker and then I switch on my headphones, I can hear thru them .... Is it a codec issue? Netflix , YouTube and amazon prime work fine

    NewsON Alternatives

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 10:15 AM PST

My parents have finally decided to cut the cord and transition from DirecTV to streaming options. One of the apps that I know they would see as essential is the NewsON app offered on Roku.

I picked around and it looks like that app is not offered on the Android TV platform. Is this still the case? I know they offer Android support, but it appears to be locked to tablet/mobile devices.

I would like to avoid recommending them getting FuboTV or YouTube TV if at all possible as that would largely eliminate the appeal of cutting the cord financially for them. They live in an area that is serviced by a Sinclair station, if that helps.

Any recommendations for NewsON alternatives I could put on their device? I'm fine with side loading if needed initially, but would prefer a Store app for ease of use updating since that might be an issue for them when im not around.

DD+ to DD conversion in Mi Box S

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 07:48 AM PST

I've read somewhere on this sub that Mi Box S is capable of converting Dolby Digital Plus to Dolby Digital if SPDIF option is enabled in sound settings. Can someone help, because it's not working for me here in India.

DD content is playing in DD, but DD+ is playing in Stereo. What can be the problem?

Thanks to everyone who replied on my last post, but apparently I had the wrong info.

Hardwiring Nvidia Shield TV to PC?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 11:33 AM PST

    Hello,

I'm wondering if there's a way to hardwire an Nvidia Shield TV directly to a Windows PC in order to access the files on the PC faster than a network connection would allow.

My media is currently hosted on my Windows 10 PC, which is shared over the network via an sFTP Docker container, which of course is running on Windows Subsystem Linux.

It's very reliable, the only problem is that because I'm going through WSL, the transfer rates are slow in comparison to something like SMB. This wasn't an issue until a week ago when I got my first 4K TV. The increased bitrate of 4K is causing buffering issues.

I really enjoy the flexibility/ease of a Docker-Compose file for my NAS needs, so rather than set up an entire server just to stream smoothly to my Shield, I would prefer to hardwire the Shield to the PC since they are only two feet apart.

Anyone know if this can be done or have experience with something similar?

Is there a log file of some sort for GoogleTV? Mines just played the Netflix sound without turning on the monitor and I'm alone.

    Posted: 18 Jan 2022 11:32 PM PST

A staticy Netflix intro played over my Bluetooth wireless speakers. The only other person at home is asleep right now. The speakers are paired to my GoogleTV which is plugged into an older computer monitor.

I was hoping to figure out what triggered this action.
