Android TV Android TV Screensaver While On HDMI?

Android TV Screensaver While On HDMI?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 01:34 PM PST

Any way to get Android TV on my TV to activate the screensaver when on a HDMI source?

Currently any HDMI source overrides the TV's screensaver. Is this just not possible because Android TV can't tell if a device connected to HDMI is being actively used?

Nvidia shield pro versus Google Chromecast TV

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 08:57 AM PST

I read so many posts or seen a bunch of videos comparing them with plex, and the shield pro looks faster obviously. But then I read tons of people on Reddit saying that it really makes no difference as far as browsing the UI or playback speed.

Any thoughts? My wife somehow put our Google TV Chromecast remote and a glass of water and now it's going nuts. I figured I'm going to have to buy a new one, and wondering if the extra $150 will give me the performance boost for UI. The Chromecast is so slow sometimes when browsing plex or even the Android TV home screen. I was hoping to hold out for a newer shield, but doesn't look like that's coming anytime soon.

Disney Plus poor performance on Nvidia Shield (Non Pro)

    Posted: 12 Jan 2022 09:18 PM PST

Has anyone noted terrible performance in menus and app navigation for disney plus app on the non pro nvidia shield?

The app is laggy and janky as hell, but youtube, netflix and spotify run pretty smoothly.

Anyone with similar issues or can offer a solution?

    UPDATE ==== 13/Jan/2022

Shield experience 9 borked me. The whole device was locking up, youtube was stuttering.
Got it to start up and did an immediate factory reset.
I did have to adjust the audio synchronisation in settings with that bouncing ball UI/Graphic. But everything is working again.

Disney+ is still as slow as molasses. My 20 USD ONN box from walmart is working faster.

Adaptive streaming, is there a way to request higher quality stream from server?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 02:35 AM PST

I am using ZDF app (German TV channel) on My Android TV (Google TV ver 9), however the app is requesting/or the server is pushing only SD streams of an Live Stream or Archived stream.

Via Kodi addon for the same site (ZDF) for Live stream I am able to get (it is still auto quality detection) 1 level higher resolution but still not HD. For archived content on ZDF site I am able to select both 720p and 1080p quality streams manually via Kodi.

Is there a way to persuade ZDF app or server via any settings setup to request higher quality stream automatically so there is no need to go to Kodi?

    Thank you

    Michal

Android TV - force clock to always show in corner

    Posted: 12 Jan 2022 10:35 AM PST

I have a Chromecast with Google TV in my kitchen and was wondering if there was a way to always display the time in a corner of the screen. Not seeing an option for it on the settings.

Google TV Remote with Harman Kardon receiver

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 12:13 AM PST

Hi ! I just purchased a Chromecast with google TV and it works just fine. I programmed the remote to control the volume of my Harman Kardon AVR 230 receiver and that works too, but trying to program the power on/off key doesn't work as expexted. On my original HK remote it's not a single button, there's an ON button and an OFF button, so when trying the codes for the Google TV remote the AVR is either only turning on or only turning OFF... Is there a solution to that ? Thanks !

    Live tab in Android TV?

    Posted: 12 Jan 2022 12:59 PM PST

I have a Walmart Onn ATV stick and Onn ATV box. I just saw about a "Live" tab on Google TV that combines listings from whatever services you connect (YTTV, Pluto, etc.) into one scrollable guide. Is this available on my devices? Is there anything like this available on my devices? I know there's differences between Android TV and Google TV and I can't seem to figure out if I haven't set this up or if it's just unavailable on my devices. Thanks!

Shield Pro or Chromecast w/ Google TV

    Posted: 12 Jan 2022 10:49 AM PST

I bought Chromecast w/ Google TV and got Shield Pro as a gift - am planning to return one. I am a long term Apple TV user. In fact, the main TV in my living room is hooked up to an Apple TV 4K which I have no complaints about.

The Chromecast w/ Google TV is something I bought to turn my bedroom computer monitor into an occasional TV for the times when the Living Room TV is otherwise occupied.

So the question is, which one should I return? The Shield Pro is definitely the one that provides the better experience. The UI is snappier, although I prefer the Google TV interface (unpopular opinion, I know). And the AI upscaling is usually an improvement on older content.

I have an Xbox for gaming, so have not used Shield for that purpose so far.

So what does reddit think? Any chance the Shield TV is getting the Google TV UI? What else would I be missing if I chose the Chromecast?

Another factor to consider is that if I am going to use a $200 device, I might as well get another Apple TV which integrates better with my mostly Apple household.

To be clear, I have not had the chance to explore them thoroughly - been busy with other things. And I didn't want to decide based on initial impressions.

    APK edit/optimizing for smart tv

    Posted: 12 Jan 2022 01:19 PM PST

My TV provider doesn't have an android tv app for live tv, but does for standard android, I tried to sideload it (apk), but it's not optimized for android tv (duh), only works with mouse and kb connected. How hard is it, to edit an apk file in a way to make it usable with a remote?

    [Troubleshooting] reset factory doesn't work.

    Posted: 12 Jan 2022 04:09 PM PST

Before taking it to Sony wanted to see if anyone here can help me.

Its a Sony Android TV KDL-43W800C running Android TV 8.

2 days ago while trying to change the date so wifi would work(evey time its disconnected or power goes out the date and time get messed up) it crashed.

a reboot later it brought me to the setup screen. After the setup the HOME menu was just a black screen. The TV mode still works(PS BluRay player ETC...) but the Android Part not so much.

After doing multiple hard resets (volume down power button) was able to load into Safe mode.

Now here's the problem. Reset factory settings doesn't work at all. Every time it just reboots and brings up the setup screen. Inside and outside safe mode.

The erase circle doesn't actually appear.

Any suggestions? Can it be reset using a PC like an Android phone?

Mecool KM2 to play video from USB at 4k with 120Hz

    Posted: 12 Jan 2022 09:28 AM PST

Hi everyone, I am a complete child in this arena, so excuse any dumb questions (probably all of them haha)

So i just got a Mecool KM2 (my first android box) and from my understanding, it has a HDMI 2.1 port. I also have some video files on a USB drive (mostly .mkv and .mp4 files) that are 4K in resolution. I can use the YouTube app to watch some videos in 4K 60Hz which looks great on my tv, but my usb files don't have that same buttery smooth motion. My tv is capable of 4K 120Hz.

    These are my questions:

    1. Is it possible to get the USB video to display on my TV at 4K on 60Hz or 120Hz?
    2. If so, how?
    3. Does the video file itself need to be shot at 60 or 120 fps (i think the file I have now is 24fps, but not entirely sure)
    4. Do I need to download a certain app for the store to do something like that or can i change something in the KM2's settings?

Thank you to anyone and everyone in advance for helping me thru this. I might have more questions as the conversation unfolds

    Sideload Launcher alternative?

    Posted: 12 Jan 2022 09:58 AM PST

Sideload Launcher is from 2014-2015, is there an alternative for it? when I launch it on the Shield TV it always says that it's made for an older version of Android TV and I should check for updates or contact the developer

    Alternative TV Tuner Apps

    Posted: 12 Jan 2022 08:50 AM PST

I've got a new Xiaomi P1 TV. I don't really watch TV so it's not a huge Issue, but still I'd like to have linear TV working properly.
The preinstalled TV App is absolute Garbage. I kid you not, I tried a full 10 Minutes to change a single Channel on the list, and I failed, because it fails to do it. Also, switching Channels is slow AF.

I downloaded the Live Channels App by Google from the Play Store and didn't have good luck with it either. I simply don't get an Option to change the Order to begin with at all.

Are there any Apps out there, maybe preinstalled ones from other TVs out there on the Web, that I could use and make Linear TV somewhat useable on this Device?

Just would be nice to have it working. I don't listen to the Radio in my car either and listen to something else, but I still want it hooked up and working, tough I'd never use it.
