Netflix not available on Hisense Android TV?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2021 10:42 AM PST

Apologies if this is old news - I have seen several posts and articles talking about how Netflix doesn't play nice with the Google TV app, doesn't work on certain uncertified Android TV devices without workarounds, and doesn't always show up in home page recommendations or the like. However, as far as I can tell it should work on official, unaltered smart TV's running the Android TV OS, including those from Hisense.

I recently purchased the Hisense L9G Laser TV and everything works great, except that there is no Netflix app. It wasn't in the list of options during setup and it doesn't come up in a search in the Play Store - as far as this TV is concerned, Netflix doesn't exist. Is this normal, or am I missing something obvious? Is anyone else with a Hisense laser TV having trouble accessing Netflix?

Chromecast w/ Google TV - IR codes issue

Chromecast w/ Google TV - IR codes issue

    Hey guys!

Hoping someone has any tips for this one:

So I recently got the Chromecast w/ Google TV, and love it. However one annoyance is the remote, rather the amount of them.

So I wanted to set up the universal remote that Google provides as part of the Chromecast's remote, but both my TV and soundbar are unsupported (It goes through the IR codes, and none of the IR codes work)

So i thought to myself; What if i have an external device that senses a pre-learned IR signal, then if it does, it spits out another learned IR code in "return", causing the TV/Soundbar to react.

Anyone knows of any device that's capable of this? I've seen stuff like the Harmony Hub, and the Xiaomi Universal Remote however they are not able to "Throw back an IR code in response to another IR signal".

PS: I'm aware of the HDMI CEC feature - It's in theory what I'm trying to achieve, however in practice it only works 80% of the time, and with major lag. Sometimes you have to restart the TV, as the sound does not change, sometimes the power on/off signals do not get detected, etc. (Hence why I'm trying to achieve this purely though good old IR signals)

I really appreciate any tips/tricks/devices that can achieve this!

Adding $6 Ethernet adaptor to the Onn UHD 4k TV box

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 07:39 PM PST

As of Nov 2021 Walmart is still selling the Onn UHD Android TV set top streaming box. This is essentially an Android Chromecast rebranded device. While it's runs super with it's quad core CPU and very fast on 5ghz WiFi, I wanted to run it on an RJ-45 Ethernet adaptor and of directly wired to my home router..

So wanted to share this for those interested.

I found a low cost adapter on Amazon for $6.99 and it was a simple plug and play. Brand is JacobsParts USB to Ethernet adaptor. You'll also need the OTG cable that's like $3 I tested my internet speed using my comcast that's a 100mbps service. And I got an astounding 120mbps download speed and very hard to believe 750mbps upload speed. Did the test several times with equal results. There are more expensive options but just FYI this cheap Ethernet adaptor works perfectly on the Onn UHD streaming box.

Neighbor's android tv has shared controls on my phone

    Posted: 19 Nov 2021 08:50 AM PST

Hello, I have a question. My neighbor (apartment) has an Android TV, and now whenever I'm home, there's a notification on my android phone saying "shared controls: waipu.tv - Android TV", and it gives me the options to pause, skip forward, and skip back.

I can disable the notifications from google play services, but I'm more worried about the connectivity than the notification. I don't want to accidentally connect to, or screenshare my phone to this tv. Does anyone know of a way to block these connections from other people's devices to my phone? Thank you!

    TSN direct on Sony x90j?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2021 08:23 AM PST

I currently have a cheaper Samsung TV that I will be looking to upgrade to a Sony x90J sometime in the near future. I like Samsung's Tizen OS cause it has lots of streaming apps. I use Disney+, Netflix, Crave, Prime video, discovery+ and now TSN to watch live tv. I have heard that TSN does not have an app on Android tv, if that is true, can I at least cast it from my phone? I take it that with the Sony TV's the "Chromecast" feature is now built in?

    2GB or 4GB RAM media streamer ?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2021 07:55 AM PST

I've seen that most popular media streaming devices have 2GB RAM (such as chromecast with google tv or Amazon's fire stick)

my question is should I go with a less popular device that runs android and has 4GB RAM instead? or is 2GB actually enough?

    No Netflix on the app?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2021 04:45 AM PST

    hey

I thought Netflix now worked with the Google TV app, but I can't see it.

I have Netflix itself installed, so there's no reason why it should know to connect to Netflix.

    screenshot of app

    any ideas

What will be happening to Android TV?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 04:52 PM PST

I clearly remember google announcing the new Google TV about a year ago, I own an android TV and am wondering whether it will go obsolete and stop receiving updates or whether it will remain as Android TV or whether it will be updated to Google TV

Has anyone updated thier mi box s recently ? I think about a month ago they released a update which bricked people devices which I didn't apply, however I am really thinking to do it right now since it claims it fixes "media streaming service" which I am hoping fixed the Plex random buffering issues

    How to clean up recommendations?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 07:46 PM PST

My mom watches much, much more TV than me, and has very different tastes. I got us a Chromecast with Google TV about a year ago, and signed it into my account (because Google doesn't seem to let you switch profiles). Her dozens of watched, bookmarked, or recommended shows have taken over my account, and I wish there was a way to cleanse those and actually set up separate profiles. Since (as far as I can tell) Google hasn't actually given us multi-user support, what's the best way to handle this?

Developing an app for android tv, notifications aren't showing

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 01:55 PM PST

I'm not sure if this is the proper place to ask, but for some reason an app I'm working on won't show any notifications on Android TV, although it works perfectly fine on android phone . Both OS versions are pie.

    Qilive 43UA211B TV service menu?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 12:53 PM PST

Anyone know working code or any other way to get to service menu on Qilive android 9 tv?

It's got some option that makes screen brighter/darker in certain conditions and any of the standard menu options don't seem to turn it off.
